Out of almost all of Michael Knott's releases I can understand why "Cash In Chaos World Tour" is a relative unknown. A story around the time of this release was that Knott and his whipped up band at the time were looking to break out of the stifling Contemporary Christian Music market of which they were a very small part in a little corner. He wanted to break in to the larger "secular" alternative music market of the time (as he later did with the Aunt Bettys and as he had earlier tried with the Bomb Bay Babies). His solution was to create a new band, Cash In Chaos, and put out an alternative album largely channeling the SoCal alternative rock club scene and acts like Jane's Addiction. This album would have been "World Tour". At least that's the story that I remember (it's not necessarily true) and I was very excited for this new prospect. When it finally came out it kind of bore the name of the LSU moniker, kind of...it wasn't that clear, and they went away from trying to break a new band out. Hardly anyone really knew that there was a new LSU/ Michael Knott album and hardly anyone blinked at whoever or whatever this Cash In Chaos group, or whatever they were, was. Further, how was anyone going to promote a darkly liquid album with disturbing lyrics and a song called "Radio Satan" in a sanitized CCM market in which they were released? So, yet again, Knott had put out another great release (I'd argue that sonically it's his greatest alternative release this side of the phenomenal "The New Sound" by Cush though this release is pure Knott) and hardly anyone was going to pick it up.Read more ›
