Jose Saramago (b. Azinhaga, Portugal, 1922) is the best-known contemporary Portuguese author. He has received many awards, including the Premio Camoes (equivalent to the Premio Cervantes for Portuguese) and the 1998 Nobel Prize. Saramago has written poetry, theater, chronicles, essays, and novels.

Casi un objeto is a book that is strongly bonded to the history of Portugal and that of the modern world. The vast descriptiveness of Saramago makes the reader enter the world where the objects lie and develops a sort of suspense whether to what is going to happen to that particular object. The complex writting style makes de reader strive to the maximum to understand the meaning of the words and their strong relation to history.
