1990's best kept secret,
By

I stumbled across this in a used record store a few years ago and I'm glad I did. This is one of Blue Rodeo's better performances. There are enough production qualities of the times to give it that "dated" sound, but the songwriting and performance punches through all of that to create a nice record.Jim Cuddy really shone as a stellar songwriter here with "Til I Am Myself Again", "Montreal" and "After The Rain". Greg Keelor didn't miss a beat either. His better offerings were "What Am I Doing Here" and "Last Laugh", though he, more than Cuddy, tended to get a little too aggressive and repititious, which kept this album from getting 5 stars.

One of the best albums of the decade,

"Casino" is an incredible CD. Blue Rodeo is an amazingly talented band and they've recorded a simply fantastic album. It's not quite country, It's not quite pop,it's not quite rock, but it's great. That's all I know. "Last Laugh" and "What am I Doing Here" are 2 of the best pop songs I've ever heard. If you are a fan of music-- it doesnt matter what kind of music you like, since it's all featured here-- you will love Blue Rodeo's startlingly great endeavor into the depths of music, the masterpiece "Casino."

A perfect ALBUM,

Are you the kind of person who likes full-length ALBUMS, as opposed to today's constant need for a "single"? If you like to put the CD on and let it play all the way through (like we used to do back in the day with R.E.M.), then you will LOVE this CD. And after reading all the reviews here on Amazon, I can't believe no one has mentioned what a catchy tune "What am I doing here" is! I owned this album wayyyyy back in the early 90's when I was a college DJ and have seen these guys play live - they have a definite "bar band" sound. Enjoy!

This line was all I could remember. I had a tape with a couple of songs on it, but I forgot the name of the band, and have been trying to remember who they were for the past 7 years. Yes, 7 years. I am very determined. :o) Today, I thought I'd let my good friend the Mr. W.W. Web help me out---throwing those words into metacrawler, I came up with a dedicated site as my first hit. woo-ha! This band rocks. As another reviewer said, "Not quite country. Not quite rock." Whatever it is, I love it.

I bought the tape and listened until it melted in the summer sun, I bought the CD and listened until it skipped. I bought two CD's the third time and put one in my bank deposit box just in case. Blue Rodeo sends chills down my spine- it's easy to connect with a song like "Till I Am Myself Again" after being on the road as long as I have. Before Wilco there was Blue Rodeo- if you have heart their spirit will move you.

Brilliant,

Blue Rodeo is my favorite crossover band -- there music is a wonderful mix of rock and country. As others have said, Til I Am Myself Again and After The Rain are the best songs on the album. I think most listeners can relate to the emotion behind Til I Am Myself Again. The sound is clear, the lyrics are intelligent, poignant and deceptively simple, and these guys are solid musicians. I have to admit I prefer Jim Cuddy as a the lead vocalist over Greg Keelor. There's nothing particularly wrong with Keelor's voice, it's simply a personal preference. If you like pure old fashioned rock with a bit of a country flair, this is a must have.

One Of The Finest From Blue Rodeo,

This excellent album gives us some of the best songs ever from Blue Rodeo. These are catchy songs you can't help singing along to. In the country/folk rock tradition of The Band, Poco, and Buffalo Springfield, and Neil Young, the music and lyrics are outstanding - thoughtful, but not academic, or redundant. Produced by Pete Anderson, who also plays guitar and sings, the music is energetic, poignant, and earthy, with sweet vocal harmonies. Highlights include Til I Am Myself Again, and After The Rain.

Cuddy's voice and lyrics first rate,

This is my personal favorite of the Blue Rodeo CD's. Jim Cuddy has perhaps the best voice in rock today. This CD was more rock oriented than previous works like 5th Of July , which had more of a country focus. The lyrics are also memorable. They capture the desperation and self destructivness of relationships quite well. This is just a classic and "I don't need a doctor to figure it out".

One the greatest underated talents of all. Blue Rodeo combines sweet harmony with country-rock that is unmistakenly Canadian. Listen carefully to the lyricks in "Trust yourself" and you'll encounter true songwritting genious. I highly recommend this album as an intro to Blue Rodeo and don't forget you can also find Jim Cuddy (Blue Rodeo )doing solo albums.

Classic Must-have,
By A Customer

This is the one Blue Rodeo CD *everyone* must own. It's the one that I use to introduce friends to the band and they immediately love every song and are hooked. From Track 1, "Til I Am Myself Again", until Track 10, "You're Everywhere" (a song that, to this day, I can't help but smile when I hear), Casino is enjoyable and one that will get played until the CD wears out (which hasn't happened to me yet...but I did previously kill a cassette copy due to overplay). Classic Keelior/Cuddy tunage at it's best...without a doubt, a must-have.
