5.0 out of 5 stars Great read
This books assumes you know nothing about Gaming Operations and goes from there, taking you on an in-depth exploration of the gaming industry, from it's beginnings through modern-day operations. This book was highly beneficial. I also read "The Gaming Industry: Introduction and Perspectives" from the UNLV International Gaming Institute, both of which I would strongly...

3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent reading for anybody in gaming, even regulators.
I regulate an Indian casino in California and I am always looking for written material on the subject. This book has a section about Nevada Gaming Control, and a section on Indian Gaming Commissions. I regulate an Indian casino in California and I am always looking for written material on the subject. This book has a section about Nevada Gaming Control, and a section on Indian Gaming Commissions. It has a good flow chart for the licensing process. Its good for anybody aspiring to be a casino operations manager too. Did you know that Nevada prohibited gaming three times in its history as a state? It will be required reading for new members to out regulatory team. Let me know of any other good and current casino books or training.

Lenny Powell.

Well written and dives to the appropriate level of detail.

Jim Kilby was one of my professors when I attended UNLV. His extensive knowledge and experience in the gaming industry makes him one of the best resources for anyone in the gaming business. This book will provide you with a solid foundation in gaming. A must have for anyone in the business.

4.0 out of 5 stars casino operations, June 30, 2006
Good overview of casino operations. It covers Indian gaming as well as Nevada and mentions where there are difference. I am the controller and I wish it had more accounting /finance.

"Casino Operations Management" is the best book on the market now focusing on operational issues that confront casino managers. It is arguably "too much" for an undergraduate course, but the book is highly recommended for casino managers who want to strengthen their understanding of what makes a casino really tick. Those simply interested in in-depth knowledge of the industry's operational issues will also find the book helpful.

the price is really not good, I check it in our school bookstore, it is even cheaper and newer. I don't think this is a good deal

4.0 out of 5 stars Casino, April 12, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased this for My wife who works in the biz. Alot of this book is relevant if you want to know who what when why were for some one who has a desire to move up or has started a new position, management, floor on up. For the most part it is based on the way they do things in Vegas. It is a go to book when you have a question for proper procedure, and at the very least enables you to ask an itelligent question about the difference in procedures.
Good book it should be on every casino persons shelf.

This book was a little slow being shipped and took longer than anticipated to arrive. However, it came as described and reads more like a story than a textbook (which is nice).
