Quartz movement powers this unique timepiece, which is water resistant to 165 feet.

The Casio Story

With the launch of its first watch in November 1974, Casio entered the wristwatch market at a time when the watch industry had just discovered digital technology. As a company with cutting-edge electronic technology developed for pocket calculators, Casio entered this field confident that it could develop timepieces that would lead the market.

In developing its own wristwatches Casio began with the basic question, ""What is a wristwatch?"" Rather than simply making a digital version of the conventional mechanical watch, we thought that the ideal wristwatch should be something that shows all facets of time in a consistent way. Based on this, Casio was able to create a watch that displayed the precise time including the second, minute, hour, day, and month — not to mention a.m. or p.m., and the day of the week. It was the first watch in the world with a digital automatic calendar function that eliminated the need to reset the calendar due the variation in month length. Rather than using a conventional watch face and hands, a digital liquid crystal display was adopted to better show all the information. This culminated in the 1974 launch of the CASIOTRON, the world’s first digital watch with automatic calendar. The CASIOTRON won acclaim as a groundbreaking product that represented a complete departure from the conventional wristwatch.

Casio transformed the concept of the watch — from a mere timepiece to an information device for the wrist — and undertook product planning based on this innovative idea. We developed not only time functions such as global time zone watches, but also other radical new functions using Casio’s own digital technology, including calculator and dictionary functions, as well as a phonebook feature based on memory technology, and even a thermometer function using a built-in sensor. The memory-function watches became our DATA BANK product series, while the sensor watches developed into two unique Casio product lines of today: the Pathfinder series displaying altitude, atmospheric pressure, and compass readings.

In 1983, Casio launched the shock-resistant G-SHOCK watch. This product shattered the notion that a watch is a fragile piece of jewelry that needs to be handled with care, and was the result of Casio engineers taking on the challenge of creating the world’s toughest watch. Using a triple-protection design for the parts, module, and case, the G-SHOCK offered a radical new type of watch that was unaffected by strong impacts or shaking. Its practicality was immediately recognized, and its unique look, which embodied its functionality, became wildly popular, resulting in explosive sales in the early 1990s. The G-SHOCK soon adopted various new sensors, solar-powered radio-controlled technology (described below), and new materials for even better durability. By always employing the latest technology, and continuing to transcend conventional thinking about the watch, the G-SHOCK brand has become Casio’s flagship timepiece product.

Today, Casio is focusing its efforts on solar-powered radio-controlled watches: the built-in solar battery eliminates the nuisance of replacing batteries, and the radio-controlled function means users never have to reset the time. In particular, the radio-controlled function represents a revolution in time-keeping technology similar to the impact created when mechanical watches gave way to quartz technology. Through the further development of high radio-wave sensitivity, miniaturization, and improved energy efficiency, Casio continues to produce a whole range of radio-controlled models.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Watch with Databank, November 15, 2003
Dual Time, indiglo, light weight, cool looking watch.
Has Dial display and digital time, along with databank to store phone numbers (about 30). The best feature of the watch is the digital display on the glass/faceplate and the dial behind it is really nice concept, indiglo button on the bottom portion is very convienent, lastly the watch can be used for casual formal wear (sometimes) by just turning of the electronic display!
I have it for 2 years now, no problems, never took it off my wrist, i have other watches too, but never felt the need to wear another one with this with me

Go get it

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect watch - one minor flaw, July 22, 2006
Firstly let me say what a wonderful watch this is. As others have mentioned you can just keep wearing it wherever, at work, at the gym and for a Muslim like me who has to wash his hands, arms etc 5 times a day before praying, I can still keep the watch on as its water resistant.

Its a perfectly smart watch, I normally just use the analogue display. In the gym however I also use the stopwatch to time myself between sets.

Ah, the minor flaw I hear you ask. Well, not sure if its the same for all of them, but my watch turned up (ordered it online, as I'm from UK) with goldish coloured minute/hour/second hands. This basically meant visibility was not very good especially when outside in the sun, you have to look at the watch for several seconds to work out the time. Me being impatient? Perhaps, but consider this drawback whilst driving where you just want a quick one second glance for the time.

Anyway, I took the watch to my local watch dealer and he somehow painted the hands with some black ink for only a couple of quid. He told me afterwards 'not many watch dealers would do this!'.

So now I have the perfect watch which I'm perfectly happy with :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Ana-Digi Watch for the price!!, April 6, 2008
By
This review is from: Casio Men's ABX23-8BV Databank Twincept Ana-Digi Resin Watch (Watch)
I have had this watch for 5+ years now. Worn it for umpteen treks/hikes, Wear it to the gym everyday. basically gets thrown around all the time! But this is a really light and sturdy watch.
Five digital Modes: 1. Date/time, 2. Databank, 3. World Time, 4. Alarm & 5. Stop watch. I mostly use 1, 3 & 5

Really useful features...
1. You actually have 3 times in this watch. The Digital, the World-time (also digital) and if you want you can set your analog to a third time! Really useful when I am traveling (I keep my analog at home time and switch mode to world time)
2. Has a DST option so there is no need to change the actual time. You still have to change the analog time though.
3. Resin strap is of a very good quality unlike some of the other Casio watches
4. Battery life is great. Changed batteries only once since buying it in Dec 2002
5. Backlight is green, bright and perfectly timed (3 secs) so it doesnt eat into your battery

Cons..
Come on! Its just a watch... :-)
