Product Description

Casio Men's Ae1200whd-1a Stainless Steel Analog Digital Watch

Casio

With the launch of its first watch in November 1974, Casio entered the wristwatch market at a time when the watch industry had just discovered digital technology. As a company with cutting-edge electronic technology developed for pocket calculators, Casio entered this field confident that it could develop timepieces that would lead the market.

Today, Casio is focusing its efforts on solar-powered radio-controlled watches: the built-in solar battery eliminates the nuisance of replacing batteries, atomic timekeeping means the users never have to reset the time. Recently, Casio launched a series of Bluetooth watches that sync to the users cell phone to automatically update the time. Casio is always moving time forward.

It's probably my best purchase at Amazon for the last year. The watch looks nice and solid. 10 years of promised battery life and 100 m of water resistance say for themselves (of course, you can't dive that deep, but you supposed to be able to swim, I guess). The glass is real glass, as far as I can judge. At least, no scratches so far.

For many years I was buying quarts watches - analog-digital or just analog, priced up to $200. Timex, Orient, Casios, Invicta. All of them had some flaws: e.g. short battery life or, the worst, unnoticed self-detachment of the crown, turning the hands and setting back at wrong time reading, which could be really bad in some situations. Eventually, I've got fed with analog watches and started looking for digital ones with analog hands made of liquid crystals. This Casio AE1200WHD satisfies me very well. You can read digital time and if you so wish to look at conventional hands, here they are - please have a look. The analog dial is really small - the LCD circle is just 9 mm in diameter - and I would probably prefer to have it bigger, but I won't lower the points for that. With time passing I stopped notice this as a disadvantage.

There is a 'world time' mode in this watch, where you can flip through all possible time zones in the world, including those shifted half an hour from others, like Newfoundland or Iran time. The time zone is indicated by a three-letter code and it's also highlighted on the liquid crystal world map. There is a designated time zone for UTC too. But even in the main (local time) mode you can set 4 different time zones and flip through them. The analog dial, however, always remains on your local time.

This Casio is a fun watch to wear because it has a retro look going for it, a cool map, and a digitized analog clock in the upper left hand corner. Not to mention that it can be set to multiple time zones, has a stopwatch, timer, and 5 alarms, and has 100m water resistance. Bang for your buck, this watch has a lot to offer. The bracelet is stainless steel, while the watch case is painted resin. If the watch case were steel, that would just put it over the top. Buy it, try it. If you don't like it, give it to your neighbor's kid. Unless he doesn't deserve a watch.

I got this watch because I thought it would great while at work in the office with casual office attire.

for a 20 dollar watch, it comes with a slew of features! I won't go into listing all the features, but this is a very high value watch. The quality of the materials could be better. The bracelet is made of a light steel (folded links) but the case of the watch is actually plastic, and so is the crystal. This means it will get pretty scratched up if you are at all abusive with your watches, using them outdoors or in rougher environments.

For casual office type environments, I would highly recommend it for it's utility. It would be able to withstand your typical day at the desk. But if you work or are in environments where your watch will come in contract with anything, I would suggest otherwise.

Excellent, light-weight watch with a ton of functionality with a tech-geeky look. A little on the delicate side.

I'm a huge fan of Casio watches, and this one is unique and does exactly what I need it to do. I'm using it to force myself to learn 24 hour (aka Military) time. You can set the digital numerical display to 24 hour time, and the digital analog clock in the upper left of course will stay on a 12 hour cycle (seeing as it's a typical 12 hour circular clock). Whenever I check the time in the afternoon or evening and I can't remember what 18:46 is, I can check the dial clock and see that 18 corresponds to 6pm. It's a perfect way to slowly learn it at your own pace without sitting down and memorizing it.

The watch is also good for general day to day use due to its 100m water resistance, three letter day display (as opposed to two letters, like "SU" or "MO"), and month-day display. On my previous Casio calculator watch, I had to press a button to display the month and day. Since I have to write the date constantly throughout the day, I need it immediately on the main screen.

Sure it would be nice if Casio offered fully metal versions of their watches, but the price would increase significantly. Still, I would buy one for the durability. This one has a metal band and plastic body with a metal back, but it's still very durable (my previous calculator watch is still going strong after 15 years of daily use and one battery change). It's definitely beat up but still looks good and I continue to get compliments on it.

Another thing to note is I have a smallish wrist and the watch face is just the right size. It's not super small but it's not so large that it looks comical. The face is also square with chopped-off edges (so 8-sided), which I greatly prefer to circular watches.

Pro: 4 time zone settings. That's why I bought it and I am keeping it. It's the only reason.

    Cons
    1) Everything but the time is too small to see very well. especially the otherwise handy little round dial that keeps time in your home zone. It's fairly easy to read, but only in the right light.
    2) Too easy to accidently hit a button and be in the settings mode.
    3) Several more city names in time zones would be handy. Did you know that Berlin and Amsterdam are in the same time zone? More names of major world cities in setting time zones would be nice.
4 It only displays the date when you are displaying your home time zone.

On the whole, it does what I need to keep it, but it the other features are not worth paying for.
Casio should never have discontinued the data bank calculator watch. That watch rocked!
