This Casio Men's Dress watch #AQ230A1D is one of Casio's first ana-digi watches, and has several functions, including a dual-time feature. I had worn this watch after college as my first business watch ca. 1981. It lasted for years and years, and then went missing. I spotted it recently at a mall kiosk, where they offered it for $60.00. It's O.K. but the button used to set the analogue time seems to have a mind of it's own, sometimes responding, sometimes not. I hope it'll let me reset the time when we go back to D.S.T. The other disappointment, considering it's 2011, is the note shown in the instructions about the watch's ability to withstand even casual exposure to water. To paraphrase: "Rain drops...

I couldn't help but buy it here for about $19.00! The watch is still simple, elegant, lightweight and slim. Most new ana-digi watches have giant cases that stand high off the wrist. This watch is thinner than my expensive Rado. The watch weighs next to nothing. The band on this watch is also easily adjustable, without anything more than a gentle screwdriver to pop up a clamp on the back side of the bracelet lock. There are no links to remove. I always wished the watch had a backlight, but Casio wasn't building them that way in the 1980s. This watch also comes with a white face. I bought both.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reliable analog-digital watch, February 5, 2011

This review is from: Casio Men's AQ230A-1D Stainless-Steel Quartz Watch with Black Dial (Watch)
I travel overseas frequently and need a watch that can keep "home" time, but also show "local" time wherever I am. I set the digital time to "home", but then can easily adjust the analog display of the watch hands to the "local" time wherever I am to glance at during business meetings. My first Casio watch of this sort was purchased in Tokyo at an Akihabara sidewalk shop. It worked perfectly for fifteen years, but ultimately started to leak water through the watch stem seal, and the stem eventually rusted/broke. While that watch still keeps perfect time (!), it was time for replacement. I searched through Amazon and found nearly the identical watch (original had titanium case). I substituted a comfortable leather watchband for the metal band supplied, and have worn my new watch every day since. The design has been improved -- analog hands are now moved by a tiny internal motor (!) activated by pushing the watchstem "button" rather than the traditional rotating/winding the button. Strongly recommended for dual time-zone use.

5.0 out of 5 stars A nice piece of kit, July 28, 2010

The watch itself is beautifully slim, simple and lightweight. Appearancewise, I can only really fault the chromium/resin case around the face; it looks a little plasticy compared with the matt finish of the wrist band. However, this is just personal preference. For a relatively small watch, it maintains it's manly appearance well.

The wrist band has an elegant locking traveller system that fits even my skinny wrists easily. I expect it would fit thicker wrists to if required.

As for longevity, my father has had one of these for years and never had a problem with it. It has even maintained it's water resistance despite having it's battery replaced. The only damage it has sustained is a few scratches to the face, a fate that would have befallen any watch under the same conditions.

The watch emits a barely audible tick, which you can only hear with your ear almost pressed to the case. In stark contrast, the alarm is nice and loud, if a little high pitched.

Over all, if your looking for a lightweight, cheap, reliable, slim and elegant man's watch, this is the watch for you.

3.0 out of 5 stars Casio Men's Watch AQ230A-1D, December 2, 2011

It's O.K. but the button used to set the analogue time seems to have a mind of it's own, sometimes responding, sometimes not. I hope it'll let me reset the time when we go back to D.S.T. The other disappointment, considering it's 2011, is the note shown in the instructions about the watch's ability to withstand even casual exposure to water. To paraphrase: "Rain drops are O.K. but don't wear it while washing either your hands, or your car".

It's a nice light, "dressy" watch and certainly an improvement over the heavy, cumbersome watch I used to wear. Although other, possibly more expensive watches have a ton of features, this one gives me all that I need. It displays analogue time, and an automatic day/date advance without having to reset it at the end of any month with less than 31 days. The only thing it hasn't been programmed for are leap years. I can live with that, and the price is right!!!

I received the item in good time and in good condition.
It is a replacement for an identical model I've had for years.
I am currently wearing it and expect many years of service from it.

Very satisfied with this product. Has all the 3 features that I was looking for. (1) Time (2) Day of Week and (3) Date. All 3 displayed simultaneously for approximately $25/-. This is the second watch of type that I am buying. First one lasted for 3 years .

4.0 out of 5 stars Just the watch I've been looking for! With one minor kink..., July 10, 2011

The digital time and alarms were easy to setup! However, I did get frustrated with setting the analog time. You hold down a button and the analog time is supposed to "advance" automatically. It does...but it's very stubborn. It'll do it then stop. Sometimes it didn't do it at all! I would have to keep trying over and and over and little by little it would start to move more.

I hope, and suspect, that it was a low battery. Now that both the analog and digital time are both set, I should be okay.

Great watch!!!

This is a great watch. Thin and light weight but feature packed. Two digital times plus the analog one. I keep my digital display in the date mode so that I have quick access to it. Hopefully it will last a long time. The only lacking is a light or a glow in the dark hands, but for the price it's a bargain.
