One Word: Calibrate!!,
By CasioKid (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Casio Men's AQF100W-7BV Forester Sports Thermometer Watch (Watch)
After reading the reviews on here, I was a bit hesitant about buying this watch. I have had other Casio thermometer watches in the past, and was able to calibrate them to the accurate temperature while on my wrist. Despite all the reviews complaining about the inaccuracy of the temp, THIS WATCH IS NO DIFFERENT. All that needs to be done is to get a temp reading with another thermometer, and then program this watch according to the instruction booklet. That's it. It's reading temperature very accurately as I type. Yes, the instruction booklet is complicated (the PDF version from Casio.com is MUCH easier to follow), but it is worth it!

Disappointing For A Casio,
This review is from: Casio Men's AQF100W-7BV Forester Sports Thermometer Watch (Watch)
I've had Casios before, and this one is a step down. It is very difficult to set up, especially the analog time. Here's my biggest complaint and biggest warning: If you are looking to buy this watch as an accurate displaying of the temperature, then look for another product. What they only tell you in the fine print after you buy the watch is that the temperature reading is affected by your body temperature. So...if you're planning on actually WEARING the watch (hello??) you won't get an accurate temperature. I'm sitting in a 75 degree room typing this, and the watch says the temperature is 92.4 degrees farenheit. Like I said, a tad disappointing.

Nice watch but poor bezel design,

I love this watch but it has one major flaw. The bezel is not protected by the case at all. It actually is a dome shape instead of being set into the case like most sport type watches. I got 2 big scratches in it within 2 weeks. As above....the temp does not read correctly unless you take the watch off but I expected that.

I have returned to Casio after using a Timex Expedition electronic compass watch for the last 6 1/2 years. The Timex Expedition's batteries kept dying after only a year even though they were supposed to last three to four years, plus the Expedition kept resetting itself.
This Casio Forester packs a lot into a watch for Amazon's super-low price. If you spend a lot of time outdoors and want to know the temperature, tides, and moon phases, this is the perfect watch. Be warned, though: The instruction booklet is wrong in detailing how to calibrate the temperature sensor. Calibrate the sensor while wearing the watch. Otherwise, your body heat will add almost 20 degrees to the sensor's reading. Right now my watch says it's 70.2 degrees inside. A nearby thermometer says it's 70.9 degrees. To get the most accurate tidal data, don't rely on using the nearest major city's longitude or lunitidal value. Use Google Earth or another mapping application to get your exact longitude. Then use data provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to determine your locale's precise lunitidal value (http://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/faq2.html#22). Aside from the specific features this watch has, positives include the luminescent analog hands, the Daylight Saving time toggle switch, and the World Time function that enables you to see the current time in major cities around the world. Also, the analog display enables you to see the time when you're using the stopwatch, timer, or tidal calendar. Negatives include the fact that you have to set the analog hands separately from the digital setting. This means that toggling Daylight Saving time on and off for the digital display has no effect on the analog display. Another negative is the tiny date display and the relatively small digital time display. The time should be larger than the temperature. This is, after all, a watch first and foremost.

Thermometer and tidal functions don't work.,
Thermometer does not read room temperature because sensor is so close to the skin it reads 10+ degrees warmer than the space you're in (outdoors or in). And the tidal measurement is totally inaccurate. It has no relationship to the tide in the west coast of Florida. if you want just time, count-down timer, stopwatch, moon status and alarm functions, they all work well.

Wow, when I received this watch I was surprised to say the least. I am a watch nut and have a lot of different watch types, but this is one of my favorite!! I love the fact that the analog display is always there like a normal watch, but so is the Digital display, which can be one of many. Chrono, Timer, etc. I don't use the tide display as I'm in Michigan, but it is a neat extra. Also like the Thermometer feature. Nice in the cold of Winter as well as the warmth of summer. All in all, this is one NEAT watch. Great for swiming, fishing, ski-ing, boating, hikeing, you name it. Everyone I've shown it to, Loves it too.

This watch serves all of the purposes and is nice and large without being heavy. I like everything about it. Temp seems to be relatively accurate after setting it to me (within 2 degrees at any given time). I like the luminescent hands and backlight. Still haven't figured out what the appearing and disappearing blocks around the outside do? They move in time with seconds, but don't count seconds (10 seconds are not counted from 25 to 35?). Only complaints are I wish the backlight worked for as long as I hold the light button instead of afterglow (but I'm sure others prefer this feature, so not too big of grievance), and I would like to see an inset crystal on future models (lots of room for damage as is), also a true rubber band instead of resin would be nice (I'm sure this would drive up the price though). Overall, extremely pleased. Shipping was fast and watch showed up in perfect condition.

Casio Temperature Watch,

I have had this watch for about a week now. It's relatively aesthetically pleasing. The watch band hurt my wrist for the first day, but I got used to it quickly. The band is the only thing about the watch i dislike. It's made of cheap plastic, cannot be replaced (to my knowledge) and is obviously meant for a beefier wrist than what I genetically programmed to attain at this age. Nonetheless, it's a great little watch that I see keeping for as long as I can. (or as long as it takes to procure several hundred dollars to upgrade it.)
There has been a lot of confusion over the temperature feature of this watch. I have no idea what you all are talking about. I, for one, followed the instructions in the manual and found that the temperature is indeed correct. (-/+ a bit) The catch is that you must be WEARING THE WATCH WHILE YOU CALIBRATE IT FOR TEMPERATURE, and the ambient temperature mustn't fluctuate too greatly. My indoor temperature sits at a cozy 74 degrees F. After wearing the watch for around half an hour, I calibrated the watch, and the watch read ''73.8*" which, for a $30 watch, ain't bad. I further tested the thermometer feature by going outside where it is a steady 70.0 degrees, and within two temperature-read cycles, (4 minutes) the watch read 69.8 degrees. So I'd say you're getting a fair deal. The moon phase feature is dead on! Today is Wed. the 16th and the watch tells me that the next new moon is going to be on Friday, Sept. 18th. So, I looked it up, and sure enough at 2-something PM a new moon rises in the sky. How's that for pretty accurate? Tidal feature is something I won't really get into because i'm not a surfer and I don't take beach trips but twice a year. I can say that the readout looks to be pretty on point, although when you are using the DST feature, this can be off by one hour in either direction. The automatic light feature is crazy cool, though it only illuminates for a couple seconds. It really is too short of a time to get a clear read of the time at a glance unless you're real swift about it. The needles are indiglo so that's a nifty little thing they threw into the mix. As long as they have time to charge, you can see what time it is without the aid of the auto-light. If all else fails, there's always that handy light button though.. All in all I really like the watch. I recommend it for an outdoorsy type or just a watch collector. The coolness factor overpowers the setbacks on all fronts. |
