5.0 out of 5 stars Great watch for the price, it's on my wrist right now.
This is a great watch for the price; it looks much more expensive than what I paid through Amazon would indicate. The digital subsection is unobtrusive to the analog look and still quite informative when using the watch's timing and countdown features, and also displays nicely the day and date by default. I don't use either of the two alarms but I'm guessing they work...

2.0 out of 5 stars Unreliable, poorly designed
I bought this watch while in Australia 18 months ago. The analog watch is not precise. The analog, digital and digital world time clocks have to all be set independently, and it's not easy to do. After about 9 months the watch "hicupped" and all settings were lost, but after resetting it worked fine until last week, when the digital display disappeared and the analog...

This review is from: Casio Men's AW80D-2AV Sports Chronograph Alarm 10-Year Battery Databank Watch (Watch)
This is a great watch for the price; it looks much more expensive than what I paid through Amazon would indicate. The digital subsection is unobtrusive to the analog look and still quite informative when using the watch's timing and countdown features, and also displays nicely the day and date by default. I don't use either of the two alarms but I'm guessing they work as advertised as well. The band is comfortable and easy to adjust size wise; it's small by default but fits my bigger wrist just fine after I slid the pin out a bit.

I'm guessing not too many people would care about the `memory bank' feature these days, since my cell phone and everyone else's contain all the numbers I can't remember, but I programmed mine to set one emergency number. Who knows, that may come into play if I'm unable to supply that information myself, I don't wear an emergency bracelet and the info is one button away so it's a nice to have feature.

Overall, I have a few more expensive watches and wear them when the occasion fits, but this has quickly become my everyday watch and I'm quite happy with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars great watch, great price, but not 'blue', July 5, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My husband likes everything about this watch except the color. When I ordered it, I thought it would have a blue face. It actually has a sort of subdued lavender face (my husband called it purple, but it is not that shocking), which is also very nice, but he would have felt more comfortable if it had a blue face. He is wearing the watch none-the-less. I don't know why the Amazon watch description says "blue dial", if it really isn't.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great watch for low price, April 14, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
First, about the delivery. I placed my ordered on Thursday night, and even though I selected the slowest method of delivery, I already had it by Monday morning !
I bought this watch as a temporary cheep replacement for an expensive Swiss watch that needed some repair time. Now that I have this Casio, I might just put the other watch in a safe place, and use it only for special occasions.
This watch deliver everything that is promissed. Personally, I would like a watch that is all metal, while this one has some plastic parts in the case, but that required buying a more expensive model.
The display is clear and large enough (for me at least), the band is comfortable and so far reliable. It hasn't broken or opened, even after few hours of hard work at the back yard.
I find it relatively easy to operate the many functions it has, once one undestand the logic behind it. I will never use all the functions (three alarms - one is enough for me, 30 page database - my cell phone has more, and is easier to operate), and I believe that some of them are only selling gimmicks. However, nothing can beat the main advantage of this watch - it's price. I went to several department stores and checked their cheep watches, and yes, I could get watches for as low as $9, but non of them looked as nice and had both the alarm and countdown timer, which are important to me.
The only drawback I can find, and even that is only esthetic, is the ilumination, which is an old type lightbulb, not the cool blue light.
I would not pay $100 for this watch, but at $20 it is an excelent buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great deal, long battery, but a bit more plastic than expected, May 25, 2007

A Reader (Santa Cruz, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This watch is a great deal. I just want to offer a minor warning to any potential buyers. There is more gray plastic in the face of the watch than I realized from looking at the photo. There is a gray circle of plastic around the dial, there are also four plastic screw tops at the corners of the watch, and more gray plastic in parts around the side. This isn't a big problem, but it makes the watch a little less classy than I thought it would be. It is still very nice looking and great deal. Moreover, it is even better deal because it comes with a "ten year battery," even though that isn't mentioned in the product description.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value., September 27, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Casio Men's AW80D-2AV Sports Chronograph Alarm 10-Year Battery Databank Watch (Watch)
I am glad that this watch doesn't look like a $20 cheap watch.
The metal band is one of the key reason for me to choose this watch. I don't want watches with plastic or leather band. I know metal band is a little bit tricky to resize. The manual does not mention about how to resize the band. I am a handy person with some precision tools around. Even so, it still took me about half hour to resize the metal band. I can imagine that some people will need a trip to a watch store to resize the band. I don't count this as a negative point. But people need to know this ahead. The setting procedures are very similar to other electronic watches. It should be very straightforward for people that had prior electronic watch experience.
The 10 year battery life is definitely a plus.
In summary, for around $20, this is definitely a great buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good value, April 27, 2008
This review is from: Casio Men's AW80D-2AV Sports Chronograph Alarm 10-Year Battery Databank Watch (Watch)
I bought this watch about a year ago and it has been a good value:

10 year battery
Metal band
Backlight
Alarm
50 meter waterproof
Easy to read illuminated hands
Dual Analog and digital time
Digital date and day
Locking metal band clasp
Price makes it a steal

Negatives:

Crystal scratches easily
Face is small (i'm a big guy so the face is little small)
Changing the settings are difficult to remember (I always have to refer to the manual)
That's it.

I did get my watch with a black face and like it. Pretty straightforward styling.

Well worth the money as a vacation/outdoor 2nd watch when you do not want to wear a nicer one, or for a teenager/kid as a first watch.

After about 9 months the watch "hicupped" and all settings were lost, but after resetting it worked fine until last week, when the digital display disappeared and the analog clock stopped. But it wasn't due to the battery dying (it's supposed to last 10 years), because the light on the display stayed lit for several days before it finally died. There must be some internal electronic problem; nothing I did should have caused it to "freak out" twice like it did. I won't be buying Casio again.

When I was looking for a watch I figured I'd spend the usual forty or fifty bucks for a so/so watch..but.. I spied this one and wondered if, at that price, it would be worth checking out. I liked the looks etc. but couldn't help wondering if it was really a GOOD watch? I've now had it over a year and it keeps very good time. I use the stop watch often and have no problems with it. It still looks good, runs good and even the band seems to be of good quality. (though it was a bit of a challenge trying to shorten it), Bottom line is... Don't let the price fool you, this is a great deal!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars so so, January 25, 2008
This review is from: Casio Men's AW80D-2AV Sports Chronograph Alarm 10-Year Battery Databank Watch (Watch)
Functional but too fragile.
On the second day got two big scratches all of a sudden. I guess that's due to a cheap plastic glass. would recommend not to buy them.

blue dial an intense palette; heft, band, performance (mind-boggling accuracy) looks overall add up to a fantastic product, 10 yr. battery an awesome claim, (check with me around 2015), had the black one for a few months until a friend accidentally junked it, repeat buy says a lot. plus what the other guy said, merchant deserves props
