2.0 out of 5 stars Noisy Action
While the price for this ultra light drew me it, it flunked my first test. I played it with power off, just to get a better sense of the action. While the weighted keys gave it a more authentic feel than most electronic keyboards, the action was very loud. Even with a soft touch the keys rebounded with a clatter. While this might be buried in the music of louder...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent buy, November 5, 2006
This review is from: Casio CDP 100 Digital Piano
We purchased this item for my wife who is an acoomplished pianist. She has a grand piano and has played and taught piano (private and college level).
Reason for purchase, to have a portable item that could be used by us in churches or situations where a decent paino was not available. This unit is very portable. A little bulkier then the smaller keyboards but you do have the benefit of a standard piano keyboard.
She is happy with the tone quality and action of the keys. The Casio will definately handle most of the music that she would play.
She realizes that this does not compare to her grand piano but she admits that it is an excellent item for the money.
The only drawback is that it does not have a dedicated line to hook into an amplifier. An adapter has to be used on the headphones jack.
Definately a good buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best bang for the buck, July 2, 2008
This review is from: Casio CDP 100 Digital Piano
I bought this for my twin nieces for them to start piano lessons on. I figure it will be fine for them for 3 or 4 years. If they truly want to continue playing, it will be time to switch to a real acoustic grand. Until then it is perfectly suitable for a beginner or someone who is not trying to play any difficult/advanced classical pieces. Wonderful for those who don't want to annoy the neighbors. Action is good, sounds are too. My only criticism is the pedal. There's only one and it is more of a foot switch than a pedal. No biggie since you can buy a decent replacement that looks and feels like a piano pedal for about $20. Ideally a piano should have 3 pedals (Google "sostenuto" and you'll see why) But the fact is most folks only use the sustain pedal anyway so I'm really picking nits here. More expensive digital pianos have 3 pedals but they also have lots of features/sounds you don't need and are priced close to three times what this baby costs. If you REALLY need 3 pedals, you probably should be playing acoustic anyway.

Bottom Line? The best bang for the buck out there. Replace the cheapie pedal and buy a cover for it and you'll have something that compares favorably with digital pianos that cost two to three times as much.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Keyboard, January 13, 2007
This review is from: Casio CDP 100 Digital Piano
We were moving overseas, and we were looking for a fullsize keyboard that could be put in checked baggage, and cost less than 500 dollars. The CDP100 fit the bill.

I'm a casual piano player, and it works great for me. the sound is nice, and it isn't heavy at all.

Cons are that aside from a midi port, there isn't a usb port or anything to be able to save and store music that you play.

So if you just want to play a full size piano, and have it be light, not take up space, and be portable, this is a good one. If you are interested in music authoring, etc...there are probably better keybaords for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for price., July 19, 2006

Pro's:
I was astonished by the clavier. To me personally I preferred this key-feel above the standard Yamaha feel.
The piano sounds where ok; above what I had expected of Casio.
Didn't have many sounds.
The internal speakers did the job, and the wooden stand that came with it, made it look like a more expensive piano.

The wheight is only 11kg's, with an additional few kg's for the stand. Together it doesn't wheigh more then 15Kg's.

I happened to believe it has Midi in/out, but I'm not sure of that.

Cons:
It has no line out. Internal speakers, or headphones are needed.
One mini-jack headphones out.

I don't own the item, only briefly played it.

Reason to buy it:
If you're looking for a decent budget home piano for the livingroom, without disturbing the neighbors while playing; and still have a good quality feel on it; then this is a buyer!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent low priced midi controller, May 7, 2009

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Casio CDP 100 Digital Piano
I was looking for a realistic piano feel keyboard as a midi controller. While the CDP100 may lack many bangs & whistles of the more expensive dedicated controllers, the pros entirely outweigh the cons. It is MUCH lighter. It is much cheaper. It feels at least as realistic. It is acoustically quieter than any modern dedicated controller. It still offers 16 midi out channels. As a sound source, very limited. I haven't heard the pianos on larger speakers so it's not fair to comment. The 1/8" headphone out jack is the only way to get audio out of the machine. This is a very weak alternative to a 1/4" stereo output. To make matters more unreliable, the speakers shut off when this is plugged in. Therefore it's probably a normalled 1/8" jack - the most undependable connection imaginable, & I would expect to develop problems with the internal speakers cutting out if the jack is used regularly. Bottom line, I do intend to buy one, if somewhat reluctantly.

5.0 out of 5 stars We're happy with it......, April 2, 2008
This review is from: Casio CDP 100 Digital Piano
We bought this keyboard so my wife could teach my daughter to play piano. My wife likes the responsiveness of the keys and the sound. It does have MIDI input and output (at least ours does), but as is typical it didn't come with the wires/plugs. The responsiveness of the keys is adjustable as are a few other things (using the function key and some of the piano keys), so read the instructions. We got a good price on it, and my wife is happy with it. The stand is pretty solid and was easy to put together. Also, the keyboard itself is fairly heavy...not something I would want to haul around regularly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great digital piano. WHY would you pay this much for it though!?, October 20, 2009
By
This review is from: Casio CDP 100 Digital Piano
Great piano for the price - but not here. Why would anyone pay $450 (or OMG $499 used) plus shipping for a used Casio CDP 100 digital piano without a stand, when you can buy it new at a number of great guitar/music web sites for $399 including free shipping and no tax (depending on your state). Very odd. By the way, you can get a new CDP 100 INCLUDING CASIO'S STAND for $499 new (again, no shipping or tax). I purchased for my 14 year old son who just took up piano - he was frustrated by the small, cheap electronic piano he was using previously and likes this one alot!

I thought Amazon sellers were pretty savvy and understand good pricing but you never can tell!

5.0 out of 5 stars good thing, May 11, 2007
This review is from: Casio CDP 100 Digital Piano
it really feels like authentic (new type)
piano. not those old ones tho, which have deeper keys. it
sounds also good enough to imitate piano, but the sound does
not react in a sensitive way to the stength of hitting the keys
as a piano does. but if you don't play concerto on it, it does
not really matter.also, since it does not have other additional
functions such as midi, you don't waste your money on the
things you don't need. it is purely an imitation of a piano. in
all, if you only want to practice and get the sense of feeling a
nd keep in the music loop, it worthes. very good model I woul
d say.

While the weighted keys gave it a more authentic feel than most electronic keyboards, the action was very loud. Even with a soft touch the keys rebounded with a clatter. While this might be buried in the music of louder playing, it is very distracting for softer pieces. Real piano keys don't make noise on rebound. I didn't buy the Casio.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware Casio Warranty, June 14, 2009
This review is from: Casio CDP 100 Digital Piano
I purchased this piano last December. After two months the sustain pedal stopped working. Casio tech support told me that I had to pay out of pocket to ship the keyboard to California (I live on the East Coast) for repair. The repair "may" be covered by warranty but the shipping I have to pay out of pocket. I ended up repairing the keyboard locally due to cost of shipping. The customer service folks were completely unhelpful and unsupportive of their faulty product. I will never buy Casio again.Casio CDP 100 Digital Piano
