5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Device!!
I record our church services on CD and DVD and bought this printer to print 'labels' for the disc's. Knowing that I would be using it quite a bit, I also purchased the 'optional' AC adapter.
Other than the unit is a little slow in printing, I truly like it. The one thing I find odd, however, is the use of the 'shift' key. On this keyboard, to use the shift key...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Device!!, December 26, 2008
This review is from: Casio CW-K85 Disc Title Printer With Keyboard (Office Product)
On this keyboard, to use the shift key to capitalize a letter, you push and release the shift key, then type your letter. If you hold the shift key and type your letter, you get nothing. Strange.....
I have seen some reviews for this and the Casio CW-75 that complain about the top and bottom lines of print not being properly aligned. That is purely operator error. If your eyeballs are on crooked and you can't see straight, Casio provides a device for lining up the top and bottom print. Me, personally, I thought it was a waste of time, and (most) my discs are lined up fine.
I print top and bottom for all my discs and I purposely kept track through one ribbon to see how many it would print. I got 31 discs printed on one ribbon. That's about 23 cents per disc. For the results you get with a minimum of hassle, I think it's well worth it.
Some have complained that this device won't print on all discs. To that I say, DUUHHH!!! When you read the item description, it does say it is a thermal printer! Buy thermal print discs and you will have no problem. I have never had any of my CD's or DVD's have any kind of problem with the print. I buy for price with my discs (and so far haven't any problems with recording or copying either, knock on wood). Have used several different manufacturers with no printing problem at all.
I say, if you want a stand-alone printer for your discs, this is a great buy. AND, I have been using mine for about a year, printing between 8 to 15 discs every weekend. Just be sure to get the adapter!!

I presently own two of the Casio Model CW-50 disc title printers. I just ordered the CW-K85. I have 3 computers, 2 running xp and the third vista. I found the CW-50's to work well on XP, but their was no software update to allow the units to run on vista. No one ever blogs about this, and Casio did not return my email queries about a possible Vista driver upgrade. I am buying a Casio printer with a keyboard that I can use at my Vista Computer as a stand alone printer.

I can speak pretty highly of these machines. They make a clear label that will not come off (thermal). Ink ribbon cassettes are sold in a 3 pack that costs about $20. The three ribbons will give you 120 titles, or 40 each. I use some of the different scripts but I haven't gotten clever with designs. I create simple titles for my favorite shows or home DVD's.

I am looking forward to receiving my CW-K85 and hope it is Vista ready. If it is not, well, thats the reason I bought one with a keyboard.

A word about discs. TDK, Sony and Fuji make discs that have a lot of room to print on. There is writing on either side of center and its silver so your title stands out. These are really good quality discs so you get fewer errors. Memorex would not copy anything for me. I tried a 20 pack of DVD+R's and they all stopped because of read/write errors.
HP makes a great disc as well but its hard to print on because of the design and color. These machines work best on a satin silver disc. I have also been advised that cheaper discs will not work at all, like the Memorex experience. Save your money and buy Fuji, TDK, or Sony discs.

Get creative! Have fun!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fine Basic Functionality, May 24, 2007
This review is from: Casio CW-K85 Disc Title Printer With Keyboard (Office Product)
I find that this printer works fine with CDs and DVDs that aren't pre-printed with heavy ink from the manufacturer. A nice "hand-writing" substitute when used as a stand-alone device, but really shines when used with the included software. I got mine for $30 on sale. Battery life is moderate to poor.

I own an older version of this product and liked it a lot. After upgrading to Windows 7 64 bit I discovered I could no longer print to the device. After checking around I discovered that Casio does not have a 64 bit driver for any of their disc printers and it doesn't look like they will be creating one. A lot of new Windows 7 computers are coming preinstalled with the 64 bit version of the software (better in the long run than using the 32 bit version). Be aware that none of the Casio disc printers will work with these 64 bit operating systems. I have one older computer still running 32 bit Windows XP that I can still use to print discs. Once I upgrade that systems I guess I'll just throw the Casio disk title printer in the trash and go back to using a Sharpie to label the discs. It was a really good product. Too bad Casio doesn't think enough of their customers to supply a 64 bit driver.

I got this printer for relatively cheap so I could make DVD prints for my movie to go to film festivals. I've now run off about 30-40 copies (off one ribbon), and it hasn't had one problem, not even with small print.
You won't be able to do a full disc image, obviously, but it makes your projects look very professional, which is prefect if you're a musician or independent filmmaker.

I use this all the time. It's a piece of cake to use. I've never had any issues with the quality of the print. It does take a few trial and error runs to see which prints you like (I use the clear protective discs that come with the stack of blanks to test if I'm not sure). My only real complaint is the ink cartridges must be ordered. If these were available in stores, it would be much more convienent. So minus one star for that.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Sharpie Killer!, April 15, 2010
This review is from: Casio CW-K85 Disc Title Printer With Keyboard (Office Product)
Got this baby for $29.99 at J and R Electronics when it was on sale 2 weeks ago. I figure at this price, I didn't lose much if the product does not perform to my satisfaction. Fortunately it does, thus, making this an awesome buy at a great price! My concern was that it would not print dark enough and media compatibility. Well, for my purpose, I'm mainly labeling my blu-rays. They have a blue colored surfaced and made by memorex. The black color shows up fine. If you hook it up to your pc, you can play with all the fonts you want. I don't even use "BOLD" when printing and the black print still shows up perfectly, and it prints fast too. I did not buy this thing to make fancy labels, even though it does have some fancy features like logos and images. For the fancy stuff, I'll stick with the pc and print out full color sticker labels. But for the simpler projects where you just want to quickly title your disc with a sharpie marker, this is the perfect machine to give your projects a professional touch. Like the folks who constantly search for the ipod or iphone killer, I have found my sharpie killer!

Excellent value and performance. It does what the description says in the casio's webpage, expect what the specification of the product says. And please , read the manual. By connecting the printer to the computer, and using the software casio provided inside the package , you can print your own logo or anything you want on the disc. I have used this printer for my bands demo, and have printed a lot of cd's without any problems.

The print quality was very poor when using CD/DVDs designed for thermal printing. We returned the printer after making several test prints, all of which were of unacceptably poor quality.
