Excellent Watch,
By
This review is from: Casio - DBE30-1AV (Watch)
My previous watch was a sturdy, made in India, Titan quartz watch.I replaced it simply because I got bored of it. I have loved Casio watches because they simply never stop working. The DBE30-1AV is a very good watch for the price. This is the kind of watch for the people who are obsessed with ultra-efficiency. The watch switches itself off to save power when kept motionless in dark. When you pick it up and wear it, it switches on automatically without having to press any buttons. It is Solar, so you will never have to replace batteries. It has a backup battery which runs for 6 months. The backup battery will be used only when you dont see the sunlight for a few days. This watch has all the features (stop watch, databank, night light, international time and so on) that you might normally need. You will not need any more features unless you plan to climb the Everest (Some watches have a thermometer, pressure guage, altimeter and even a tv remote control...really!) This watch looks good and is quite tough. When solar watches first came into the market, they were very fragile and quite inefficient. Not so any more. The technology has vastly improved. This watch is Made in China. In earlier days Casio watches were Made in Japan. I found this watch to be of the same quality. The only thing that I do not like about Casio watches is that the strap breaks after a period of time.

REVISED REVIEW - LOOK FOR ANOTHER WATCH,
By Wes (World Citizen, Earth) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Casio - DBE30-1AV (Watch)
UPDATE: Lately this watch has been resetting to default settings by itself (about once every 6-7 weeks). It has NOT been exposed to the elements and hasn't been roughed up. I get really angry when it loses all my settings, so you probably ought to look for a different watch than this one. The curved resin band is starting crack and will break on me any day now.I made the mistake recently of replacing a sturdy Casio (which lasted 17 years) with a Timex Ironman. The Timex lasted only 3 months. So I picked up another Casio. They're nice because their plus/minus degree of accuracy ADVANCES one second, not SUBTRACTING like the Timex per 24 hours. I like the display on this Casio. Unfortunately it includes some features I find useless and it's incovenient pressing the button over and over again cycling to find the mode you want. Too bad you can't override what you won't use. You have to expose it to the sun as it's solar-powered, and the backlight barely stays on long enough to glance at it. So, it's not the best, but the display looks nice and so far appears more dependable than the aforementioned Timex.

Very pleased with this watch,

I've had one of these for a couple of years (replacing my previous ten-year-old Casio, which was beat up but still working) and been very satisfied. A pity it's a discontinued model and there don't seem to be current models in this price range with these features.I have the version with a stainless steel strap. Dislike the black resin strap - one thing I and other reviewers agree on. Too bad the metal-strap version seems hard to find now. Like the solar-power feature. Replacing the battery on my previous watch (while keeping the water-resistance guarantee) meant sending it away to be done, which took weeks and cost almost as much as just replacing the fairly inexpensive watch. Like the databank feature, which stores 30 phone numbers. Thought it was a gimmick, but I find it very useful. http://www.casio.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=products.archivedproduct&CATALOG=Watches&SECTION=DataBank&Product=DBE30%2D1AV
