3.0 out of 5 stars Good Watch, But
I have owned casio watches for about 35 years. They like all things get cheaper. The good points on this watch are, the 5 alarms, the spacious data storage, and the time accuracy. I need the alarms to help me remember when to take my blood pressure meds. They use to make the data bank without the calculator with 5 alarms that held 50 data numbers. That's what I had before...

4.0 out of 5 stars my favorite casio, June 14, 2010
This review is from: Casio #DBC610A-1A Men's Vintage Stainless Steel Band 50 Telememo Calculator Watch (Watch)

This watch is a beautiful piece of design. The typography also is very small and well place.

I would love to see this design with at least 300page data-bank, blue iluminator and memory protection. All the thins the "DBC310-1 Databank 300" has but sadly the later is not as good looking as this vintage design.

My cellphone has died several times and this watch has same me from trouble because of the telememo. Thanks casio don't you dare stop making this little gem just improve the inside and let the design alone because some thins don't need to changed when they are perfect.

I need the alarms to help me remember when to take my blood pressure meds. They use to make the data bank without the calculator with 5 alarms that held 50 data numbers. That's what I had before this one. I really didn't want the calculator. The bad point is the watch case and band connection points are made of plastic. I play golf and like to leave my watch on. The watch band broke off after having it for about 6 months. Lucky thing for super glue. That's how I repaired it. My watch before this one broke in the same place where the pin sticks into the watch case my super glue didn't work good on it that's why I bought this watch.

I have had two Casio calculator watches before this one. It is nicer looking, has a stainless steel band as opposed to the plastic ones, and the key pad is less obtrusive. I would buy this watch again if the need ever arose. Very pleased with it.

I bought this watch here at amazon about 6 months ago. I have worn the watch ever since then and I have to say that is a very durable and functional watch. The calculator and timer are very practical. I work in a warehouse moving stuff around and lifting boxes every day and the watch has barely a few scratches. If you want a tough watch with a great retro look to it and very functional, this is the watch for you. Also have in mind that this watch is an old model that probably wont be around for much longer. I am thinking about purchasing the gold tone, its unique!

I love this timepiece (it's more than a watch). It's the third one I've owned. Casio makes great...uhh...chronographs. I've snagged the watchband on some immoveable object and had the case break where the watchband pins connect, thus my needing a replacement. This one is a bit dated, but it's thin, functional, and looks good.

I have long loved my previous Casio Databank that I received 24 years ago on our 40th wedding anniversary. I was overjoyed to find such a wonderfully updated replacement on Amazon. The watch is doing a great job of accommodating my programming efforts, and is functioning flawlessly. Thank you Amazon

5.0 out of 5 stars Great watch, now replaced by the DBC-310, June 14, 2007

Over the last 20+ years I have owned two (or was it three?) of these watches, which are now officially discontinued but still available. A current replacement model is the DBC-310, and I just bought one of those. Other similar models are the DBC-150 and DBC-1500. Some aspects of the newer models are improvements, but others are not. Here's the scoop:

DBC-610 pros:
1. The viewing angle of the LCD is better. With the new one I have to rotate my wrist a little too far to see the characters properly.
2. I like the stainless steel wrist band and hinged latch of this model. The new model has a resin (plastic) band. It does feel good on my hand, but the standard buckle is a step backward.
3. This case is more angular and slightly smaller in all dimensions than the new one, and I prefer its clean, sleek lines. I also don't like the narrow spacing of the outer two columns of buttons on the new model. That looks like a design mistake.

DBC-610 cons:
1. The backlight has always been rather feeble, and no longer works at all. The new backlight is much better looking, and should require less power to operate.
2. User data is lost when the battery is removed. The new model has EEPROM memory, which retains data even without a battery.
3. The new model has more data storage (room for 300 entries vs. 50) and improved functions such as search capability.
4. With some of the controls it's too easy to accidentally press a button and change a setting. The new model has better implementation of controls, which helps avoid this.
5. The case of this model is metal-plated plastic. The plating always wears off eventually, leaving parts of the underlying plastic exposed. The new model has a black plastic case that will probably look better longer.

The structure of the keypad is different as well. The old keypad uses a flat membrane, but the new one has raised buttons. I won't really know for a year or two if this is an improvement or not.

Both watches have the same type of stainless steel back, and the other general features are pretty much the same.

Summary: One of these models is the best watch in the world, but I'm just not sure which one.
