Fantastic take everywhere camera. Standout features are (i) excellent image detail (ii) tremendous auto white balance, best appreciated on a calibrated monitor (iii) very easy to use (iv) highly portable and unobtrusive. If the camera is held super steady, the pictures can be sharp too. At the highest quality settings, the files allow for significant crops and enlargements.
The lens is competent enough and does the job. The let down is that it's not wide enough at the wide end and is pointlessly long at the long end. In 35mm terms, it is a 37-111 zoom; a 24-70mm would have been more useful for day to day and travel snaps. The longer focal lengths are unusable handheld because they greatly magnify vibration and the really unimpressive anti-shake system is of little help there. A shorter, wider, optically superior lens would have given the camera more bite. To be fair, though, most comparable compacts have the same lens coverage; even the Canon G9 does not go much wider, but Casio could have been more innovative and daring. The packaged software transfers images to a computer but does nothing beyond that. For non-destructive jpeg editing, Picasa is necessary and is brilliant. My unit persistently overexposes so I routinely reset exposure to EV -0.7 or more before each shot. The -0.7 setting is lost at power-off and has to be reset at each power-on which is very frustrating. If there's a way to store this setting, I still haven't found it. The z1200 gets 5 stars because if I were buying again today, this is the one I'd get. Used with discipline and imagination, the results are frequently breathtaking.

Ok, this cam is very very good, it takes great pics but only when you are close to the person... I know, it only has 3X Zoom but I wasn't expecting it to be so poor!!! My cellphone (Nokia N73) take better pictures using zoom than the ones taken with my Camera!!! I couldn't believe it!!! In general the cam is great, it is totally user friendly and easy to set... but if zoom is something that matter to you consider buying something else!!!

I received my Exilim EX-Z1200 camera two days ago and turned it on twice. The second time I turned it on the telephoto casing jammed and would not close. The camera doesn't work now. I did not even get the charger out of the wrapper. I just got off the phone with Casio, they did not help at all. Yes, I am looking to get it replaced so now I will try to see what Amazon can do for me.

Although this camera took good pictures and was user friendly, it broke down after only two months. I sent it to Casio repair and they said it had suffered water corrosion and the damage was NOT covered by warranty. I did not get it wet, take it out in the rain, or treat it badly...yet it broke down in almost no time...and I am out $300 bucks. So, I MUST warn anyone considering buying it: WHY TAKE THE CHANCE WITH A CAMERA SO OBVIOUSLY FRAGILE?? DON'T DO IT!!
Needless to say, I'll NEVER buy a Casio camera again.

I bought this camera a week before my trip and I really like it. It is very compact and light weight but very powerful with 12.1MP. So far I like everything about it from a very stylist design to many necessary functions that suitable for travelers...

My son's Casio camera was stolen (EX-Z1080)and we found this one to replace it. It was a graduation present and he really liked it. He says this one is even better and really likes all the features. His comment was "Casio rocks!" Casio seems to make very good products.

I was very disappointed when I saw the "LENS ERROR" message on the LCD screen the first time we turn the camera ON. I am sending it back and getting a Cannon instead.

i have had 4 other casio cameras before this and not once have they disappointed me. This camera was a disappointment. the features never work right and you can't save the type of photo quality you want it to have to memory and the timer doesn't work properly. it is not good. the exz1000 is much better

Great price for how good the pictures/video come out. So many options to use. Easy to use. And got with in two days. Love it. Pictures are so clear like from NatGeo in the food mode at 12m. Love the party mode. And the pet mode is great too.

As an enthusiastic owner of Casio's EX-Z850, I was curious to see how they had updated that model, so purchased a refurb Z1200, and am quite happy with it though still like the Z850 and continue to use it.
Pros: the Z1200 looks nicer aesthetically, has 12.1 Mp of course, and has better antishake, and a larger viewscreen, battery is same as in the Z850 and battery life appears to be just as long, which was one of the best features of the Z850. Movie mode is practically HD quality albeit at 24fps. I like the adjustable flash intensity, which is good for macro mode. The face recognition mode sounds pretty impressive technically, but I doubt if I will ever use that, and it wasnt a consideration for me. Cons: for me, the Quicktim MOV movie format is a step backwards, compared to the AVI format of the Z850, as my video editor will not take it directly and I have to do a conversion step. Also, the frame rate of 24fps is slower than the 30fps of the Z850 and the motion in movies does appear noticeably jerkier than in the Z850. Also the shot-shot delay time seems longer in the Z1200 than the Z850, it seems to take about 2 seconds in the Z1200, and about 1 second in the Z850 (both at max res superfine quality). The absence of the mode select wheel is a minor annoyance, I find it hard to get used to the new scheme of selecting shooting mode, which takes more time to select an option. After a month of using it, I still find myself preferring the Z850 because of the mode select wheel, and the AVI movie format. Overall, a very attractive, easy to use, and powerful camera with excellent picture quality! |
