5.0 out of 5 stars My 2nd Exilim
I just bought my 2nd Casio Exilim camera. The 6mp that I lost, did such nice job,I figured I couldn't go wrong with 10mp.I have not been disappointed. This camera does everything the competition does for less. The setup is easy and the pictures are nice and crisp. The size is perfect and the styling is attractive. The on/off button is kind of tricky for big hands and...

3.0 out of 5 stars Flaky operation, but I'll keep it
My main problem is that sometimes this camera just freezes. For example, when I am switching from "rec" view (take a picture) to "view" look at shots. The lens is supposed to retract, but it just freezes.

The only fix I have found is to remove the memory card and re-insert it. Then press the (TINY) power button. That fixes the lens, but then I get an error...

5.0 out of 5 stars Purple Perfection, June 20, 2009

I gave this camera as a birthday gift to my wife. We both love the little digicam. She needed a very compact camera to fit in her purse, but she also wanted zoom capability and excellent image quality. The credit card-sized exilim gave her everything she wanted. My wife ignored the instructions. She just switched the thing on and started taking pictures. It really is that easy to use. 5-stars all around.

3.0 out of 5 stars Flaky operation, but I'll keep it, November 4, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

That fixes the lens, but then I get an error message telling me to repower again. The second try works.

So is this the camera software, or some glitch in the camera-memory card hardware?

I also have a problem remembering which button to push to get to the flash adjustment. I often want to turn the flash off or use redeye reduction.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Camera If You Get One That Works, June 21, 2009
This review is from: Casio Exilim EX-S5 10MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom and 2.7 inch LCD (Black) (Electronics)
I bought this camera a week ago and love it. The images are sharp; the video is fantastic; and the interface is super simple. It is also very thin and fits nicely in your pocket. The downside came the weekend after I bought the camera. I was using at a birthday party for kids and my wife wanted to use it while I stepped out for a moment. When I returned she said that the camera was broken. Apparently, for no reason, when she tried to power on the camera the lens extended and then there was a buzzing sound and the camera then turned off and displayed an "Lens Error" message on the LCD. I took the camera back to where I bought it and exchanged it for a second camera. I hope this was just a flook but there is quite a bit of information on the Web about this exact problem with other Casio models. I plan to enjoy this fine camera and keep my fingers crossed that I got a dud the first go around. If it breaks again during my 90 window to return it to the store, I am going to get a refund and look into a Canon or Nikon.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Second Casio with even more Oomph!, July 24, 2009
This review is from: Casio Exilim EX-S5 10MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom and 2.7 inch LCD (Black) (Electronics)
I am giving this 5 stars initially. So far it is an awesome little camera, lightweight, highly functional with even more features than my previous the 7.2mp EX120. This camera takes a lithium ion battery and I like it, much easier to recharge and it holds a charge longer than the AA batteries in my previous model. I am going on vacation soon to the mountains and intend to put this to the test. I will have a detailed report soon. Stay tuned for Part 2......
PART 2 08/10/2009 Back from vacation, camera performed flawlessly in all sorts of conditions. Took around 140 pics. I explored a multitude of settings and they all worked well. The self timer was great for shots where my son and I wanted in together...4 settings on that up to 10 second delay. I used the auto exposure, with some of my own settings, but not the Easy mode...I find it to be too easy..I like to vary the settings especially the ISO...The noise that some people mention is a non issue in my book..not enough to worry about. For the money in a 10MP camera, you can't go wrong with this gem.
12/6/2009-With the advent of digital cameras, as in so many other electronic items in the 21st century..the quest for perfection has been staggering. Every camera company dueling for the smallest, lightest, most megapixels, etc etc;. Just like receivers, and televisions and DVD players, etc; the bar is raised daily. Each time we buy a new piece of equipment it seems like they are already about to release the next version , which is even better! With these things in mind. I personally like Canon , Nikon, Minolta, Fujica, Olympus etc; the companies who have been around the longest. However...Casio , Sony etc; have come on in recent years with very good cameras and electronics. My point is , that with so many millions of cameras being sold yearly and with all the technology and micro electronics piled into one tiny camera, occasionally you might get one that does not function right. I would not let this sway you in your purchase. These things happen with every one of the manufacturers. You should be alert within the warranty period for any items that
don't seem right and while you may be without it for a short period, it will be fixed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing camera, I might get another one, October 16, 2009
This review is from: Casio Exilim EX-S5 10MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom and 2.7 inch LCD (Black) (Electronics)
I love this camera. If I broke this camera, I'd buy another one immediately, I like it that much.

I bought it because I needed a cheap camera that I could keep in my pocket, and the "nice" one I bought a couple years ago was pretty bulky. After taking a few pictures with this, the quality was so much better than the pictures from my "nice" camera, that my "nice" camera is now a paperweight.

This camera takes about 250 pictures with the flash on. I got a Kingston 8 GB SDHC Class 4 Flash Memory Card SD4/8GB for it, which is about 1500 high-quality pictures, so I bought a couple CTA Digital DB-CANP80 NP-80 Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery (850mAh, 3.6V) Replacement for Casio NP-80 Battery's to go along with it. I was mad at first that it has a proprietary battery, but it ends up working out pretty well.

It appears to have a 4 GB limit on video, which is about an hour of video.

1.0 out of 5 stars This Camera Sucks, January 16, 2010
This was my first Casio purchase, and my last! The camera developed a "lens error" within a couple of weeks of purchase. Casio says that this error is caused by user and not covered under warranty. They want $79 to repair a camera worth $100. Very poor quality, for now on I'll be sticking with Nikon.

NOTE: Casio says lens error was caused by either dropping camera or by camera powering on while still in case, etc. The camera wasn't dropped and I kept it in a case with the battery out. It couldn't have powered on while in the case. Google search and you'll find this camera has a lot of "lens error" problem, which more than likely indicates its a POS that Casio doesn't want to take responsibility for. Stay away from this camera unless you like throwing money away.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great concept but poor construction., November 16, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This camera has some really great features and awesome quality photos. You can even shoot videos while simultaneously taking pictures. Your videos will have a little pause where you took photos but it works out pretty well. The big problem I had was its build. It feels cheaply constructed which is understandable at the price. What wasn't understandable is a random lens error I had one week into having my camera. Typically, lens errors occur when something is obstructing the lens from poking out in which case it retracts and tells you, but I had a lens error when I turned it off and the lens couldn't retract in. It was stuck halfway so I gave it the slightest nudge to help out. It worked out a few more times like that, until my light nudge would no longer work. It would get stuck halfway and require more force, which is obviously bad for the camera but there was no other possible way of having it retract. Maybe I just got a faulty camera because it never incurred any heavy blows or anything remotely close to damaging it but it is now unusable because the lens has failed. Otherwise, I'd totally recommend it, so I'd suggest getting a warranty on this to be safe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, July 19, 2009
This camera is delicious! Sleek design, beautiful color, great picture quality. I am not a photographer and I generally don't take an obscene amount of pictures, so this model suits my needs perfectly; you can't get anything better for the price. The "best shot" options are really awesome. (I use the "food" and "magazine" ones a lot and they really do help you take the best pictures possible.) It scratches easily, even if you take care of it, so please make sure you get a case.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware - Poor quality! "Lens Error", January 2, 2010
We purchased two of these cameras for our daughter. Both failed, after only a few months, with a 'lens error' -- the camera is worthless. Shame on us for buying two. This problem is not covered under warranty. My advice is to look for a different brand.
