For many years, I wanted a nice classic analog chronograph, but never got around to buying one. However, I did own a classic Casio G-Shock watch I purchased 20 years ago (and is still running!), and I decided upon a classic analog with G-Shock durability for daily wear. After some research, I decided not to spend on the MTG1000 series at this time, so I decided on this G1000D-7A as a great value! It's a very handsome watch, but ONLY if you're looking for a solid hefty watch with a classic large watch face. I agree with the other reviewers who wrote: the photgraphs do NOT do this watch justice; it IS fairly complicated to use the features; and it does NOT light up in the dark (the luminous inserts are almost useless). Keep the manual handy for a while! For us older wearers who can't focus close, the small dials and the little manual are difficult to focus upon. This will help -- print out the pdf on letter-sized paper, and carry that around instead: [...] and search for Module # 5034 (this watch). Buy it and Enjoy!

I like this watch. It's a great looking piece and has many features and seems very well built. The issue with it is seeing it in the dark and setting it up. You need to be an astro physicist to figure it out.
I called Casio tech support, gave them the watch code and they aptly walked me through it - twice. I got the watch before we fell back, and they helped me set it up back then and again after we fell back. I'll give them this, they're friendly, patient and know what they're doing in tech support!

Hey, i bought this watch the first day of december, but i was traveling, i returned on january 20 and saw the watch for the first time, and what happened?... I was Shocked, the watch is much and much better than the picture in Amazon.com, [...], the navigation is a little bit dificult, but the other pros are worth it. The silver color of the dial it's amazing (not white like in the picture), give it a try and go for it.

I was extremely happy with this watch when it first arrived and for the first six months or so of ownership. It had a really attractive look and, I assumed, G-Shock durability. I have had it for just over a year now and have worn it almost daily in that time. It still functions well, however I do have a substantial complaint. The darker gray finish on portions of the watch is coming off (particularly on the edges). Though a G-Shock, I bought this as a casual-dress watch and have not worn it when doing manual labor or hiking, etc. The fact that the finish is wearing off with such limited use makes it less attractive and therefore less usable for it's intended purpose. If I wanted a purely utilitarian watch I'd have stuck with my original, digital G-Shock model which has held up well (with the occasional replacement band) for two and a half decades.
One other note...this watch has a multitude of functions and only four buttons. It is near impossible to do the simplest thing without referencing the manual. Maybe if I set the alarm every night, I'd remember the steps involved, but for the rare occasion I would want to use it, I can't.

I've owned this watch for a year do not wear it way to complicated to set the time. I have many but this one is a pain. But it looks nice.

I was to say the least disappointed. The watch was supposedly new and yet its appearance in the package would indicate other wise. Could not set the watch most buttonstick or were not functioning. So I put the watch in a draw and went and bought a cheap watch. Lesson learned.

I like G-Shock watches but most of the ones I like have bright color schemes. Well, I needed something nice to wear for the up coming holiday parties. This piece is really nice and has a good weight to it. Some may look at a heavy watch as a bad thing but I and a larger male and didn't want a dainty watch. My only real compliant is that the band width. It is a little shy of 3/4" (11/16" to be exact) while the case is 1-7/8". The first link between the case and the band starts at 1" and I think the should have keep it that width all the way around. As for the directions, they aren't that complicated. I was able to set the watch in 2 min. My only suggestion is that when you set the time, make sure you set it 3-5min ahead of the current time to allow time for you to compete the rest of the settings (city & date). Last thing is that the glow in the dark portion on the dials and face do not glow for that long (as mentioned in other reviews). If you really need to tell the time in the dark you're going to have to take out that cell phone.
On a side note, the G-Shock box was trashed. The watch was covered with protective plastic on the face and the links but it was just floating in the the box. It would be unacceptable to present someone this item as a gift in this condition.

If you are like me and love cool watches get this! I have a Solar Powered Digital G-Shock and this one now, and my collection looks pretty cool, it's very dressy and kind of has a 'bling' effect to it. Setting the time is not hard just dont loose the instructions.
