Casio G2310 - lots of functions, durable watch,
By N. J. Simicich "Gadget Geek" (Labelle, FL United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME) Time set from front panel only - no ability to set from WWV. I have not had to reset it in the months I have owned it. It is yet to be a full second off - so far the watch has not slipped as far in time as my watch setting error. 12 hour or 24 hour time. Default state - displays year, month, day, day of week, and status of rechargable battery. World time state - displays the time in one of 31 time zones, including GMT. Each zone can be controlled for DST. Data - holds a short alphameric pointer and a bt of data that uses the year, month, day, hour, minute, second - I use it for Ham call signs. Holds 30 items. Suitable for phone numbers, for example. Alarm screen - the watch will remember five different alarms by day, month year, hour, minute, sec. It will alarm the same time and day every year or the same day every month or the same time every day - or just once, at a particular year, month, day, hour, minute, and second. There is a sixth screen where you set the hourly chime on or off. Stopwatch screen: The stopwatch does splits and final time. It also does a "countdown" where it beeps three times and then a "go beep", optionally, if you are timing someone in something and they want an honest and accurate start. Timer screen: The timer will do countdowns - either a single time or it will automatically repeat. The face is a solar cell. It automatically recharges the battery. The watch can be put to sleep by holding adjust and mode - you won't get alarms or beeps in that mode, nor will you get a display - but the watch will keep time for much longer. The backlight really works - in the old days, backlights on LCDs were miserable and then some of the watchmakers used tritium radioactive elements that were nicely lit but which you can't get anymore. Then there were some attempts at better pushbutton backlights - this is about the best I've seen. It is clear and you really can see the watch using it. It works in one of two modes. One mode is that the watch backlight only engages when you push the button on the face - that's right, the easy to reach silver button on the front center of the watch lights it up. The other way is to use the automatic feature - If you wear your watch on the outside of your left wrist, then IF it is not too bright and as you look at the watch the way most people do, by tilting your wrist toward you, the watch automatically lights up. This is essentially automatic - you look at your watch and it is lit up. This function is selectable - You might want to make it manual to save battery. I find it is too convenient to do without. Despite the wonderful pressure ratings, unless you are very small, this watch is not suitable as a dive watch. The band won;t fit over a wet or dry suit. If you are doing warm water wimp diving in a skin or a shortie, you can use it - if you need to put it over a wet suit or a dry suit, the band is simply way too short. I know of no source for a band extender. Neither do the people at Casio. For short duration use, a wire tie or two will probably work. What 20 bar rating means to me is that I could take it diving. Or, I could get it wet and not worry, even if the water is coming out of a hose with some force. The band means that I can't wear it where I need it - on the outside of my wetsuit or drysuit.

Impressively Long Lasting,
This review is from: Casio Men's G2310-1V G-Shock Classic Solar Powered Digital Sports Watch (Watch)
I bought this watch a few years back when I was doing heavy labor in a wet, hot and chemically intensive job. I never have to take it off except to shower. The hard rubber/plastic buffer keeps it from rubbing the buttons or face cover against anything that might scratch it. I have had this watch now about 3 years and it is very impressive still. A few minutes in the sun (even indirect light) and it is charged for days. My watch doesnt have any scratches on it and the lettering hasn't even faded! In the last 3 years, I have done construction, kitchen work, and home-remodeling from the ground up.
I love how the band is molded into a circle to assist in clasping, although it does make it a little bulky when you set it down somewhere, but that is so infrequent who cares? :) I have a thing for time peices. I have 3 watches and 4 clocks (currently). This is by far the best watch I have EVER owned! If it had a digital compass I would consider this state-of-the-art. I have even seen a documentary about the taining of Navy SEALs and one of the soldiers was wearing this watch! It is not jazzy for classy events but that's not what it is made for. This watch is strong and reliable enough for very rough treatment. Mine even holds up nicely to sub zero temperatures. It does tend to get a little uncomfortable when your wrist is at the edge of the desk when you type. The clasp digs in slightly. But I just take mine off when it becomes a bother. Pros: * Extremely durable and reliable * Accurate * Never needs a new battery * Multifunctional, including 5 alarms and a countdown timer * Wrist band designed to aid in the clasping * Only needs seconds or minutes in natural sunlight to obtain a full charge * Self-protective design * Displays most-used information up front, while maintaining easy interface * Many times pays for itself compared to those $10 walmart watches that last a few weeks or months. CONS: * Does not have a calculator or digital compass * Not flashy or silver or full of bright colors for style * Does not make your boss give you a raise :-P

Can't beat it...,

Wife bought it for me several years ago and it is proving to be entirely accurate, durable, and functional.
Relatively easy to set and access features. Solar is great and it runs without any need for maintenance (other than setting DST option). Good size too, not ginormous or too small - pretty easy to read. I'd buy another one if I somehow destroyed this one or lost it...

G2310 and DW6900 side-by-side comparison,

This review is from: Casio Men's G2310-1V G-Shock Classic Solar Powered Digital Sports Watch (Watch)
This is a side-by-side comparison of two of Casio's great G-shock watches. I've recently become a fan of the G-shock line, and this comparison is quite unscientific. I just received the solar powered G2310 and had been wearing the classic DW6900. Both are great watches, but (according to amazon's own prices) there's about a $20 difference which may affect your buying decision.
Here's how I feel they stack up: Cosmetically, the 2310 is definitely more eye catching with its "chrome" bezel and light button. Side-by-side the 2310 takes up a little less real estate on your wrist, but the faces are the same size (more plastic around the 6900.) In all, the 2310 looks a little more "techy" vs. the rugged all-black look of the 6900. The displays are both very readable in daylight and the EL (electro-luminescent) feature is great in the dark. The 2310 adds an "autolight" function that illuminates the watch when you move the watch to look at it. This function can be turned off and I've had kind of mixed feelings about the feature, but it is a neat hands free function. Where the 6900 has the three circle display in the top half of the face, on the 2310 this extra space is used for a battery indicator (which also indicates when the watch is in sleep mode) and a seperate LCD panel that can scroll characters across. In timekeeping mode, this area is used for the day. The buttons feel slightly stiffer on the 2310, perhaps because they are covered in plastic rather than the metal buttons on the 6900. They are responsive, but they just feel different. I like that the 2310 has "Forward" and "Reverse" buttons for setting time and punching in letters (as well as navigating the world time function). The 6900 does not have the additional functions like world time, or a databank and fewer options for setting alarms. I do find it confusing that you have to push "Reverse" on the 2310 to start the stopwatch, but its noted inside the bezel that it is also "start/stop". Both watches are comfortable to wear. I have owned the 6900 for over a week and its band seems more supple than the 2310s, bands are fairly changable though, so I don't think that should be much of a worry. And speaking of not much of a worry, I think the best part of the 2310's feature list is that it is solar powered. The 6900's battery is listed as good for 2 years, I've heard some people get 4 years out of it, at any rate you should get your G-shock batteries changed at a jeweler to ensure that the watch remains waterproof. I am glad I have both watches but honestly, unless you really need the databank function or are dying for a solar watch, I believe the 6900 watch is a great watch and I would recommend it over this one. The 6900's design is a little more straighforward when you're making adjustments. The features of the 2310, while outstanding, don't really make me look down on the older model.

Exact To Its Name and Description,
This review is from: Casio Men's G2310-1V G-Shock Classic Solar Powered Digital Sports Watch (Watch)
G Shock, this watch is as tough as they say it is, this watch has been through mud, ice, rock walls, feces, and hit up against punching bags countless times, and it stood up. Another thing is that this watch is as accurate as anywatch can get with out being an atomic watch, I still reset the 2 seconds it is off like every 2 months but hey 2 secs, thats not much time at all to be off. One thing I don't like is how the watch face was scratched but it could be just thing things I put this was in. But as for it being classy, when I out my uniform on it looks just as good as any stainless watch. This was money well spent. I am looking foreward for a 3rd G Shock, preferably the Riseman. Hope this helps

This review is from: Casio Men's G2310-1V G-Shock Classic Solar Powered Digital Sports Watch (Watch)
this watch is one of a kind it looks bulky but it is one of the lightest watches i've worn. there are no problems with this watch even if you tried.200 meter water resist, if it is flat and then tilt it at a 45. degrees the light turns on, the best feature is the solar you never have to change the battery and if you had to you can just buy a new one of these watches. i gave 5 stars because it is the best watch i've ever worn and the very helpful features and it is hard to not buy this watch. because it is simply one of the best

No split time function.,
By Lenny (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Casio Men's G2310-1V G-Shock Classic Solar Powered Digital Sports Watch (Watch)
I bought this watch to use while running after a Timex gave up the ghost. One of the prime features in my decision to buy was that its stopwatch supported split times. The instructions came with a section on how to record split times, but no instructions on how to review them! This is because it doesn't support them!
I don't have a particularly big wrist, but the watch doesn't look outsized on me. It's clearly a 'sports watch', not suitable for a suit and tie job. The solar power function works on minimal light (it remains powered up sitting in my darkened bedroom for days at a time). Accuracy isn't an issue. If it supported split times, I'd give it 5 stars.

I am a special forces soldier. I have worn a Casio G Shock for years in 3 war zones and there is no better or more reliable watch. On land, sea, or in the air this is the best watch for a hard working man or woman. I am replacing my old one because the battery needs to be replaced and I broke the band while moving gear. The solar power option makes it perfect. I know I will get anouther 15 years of service from this one.

I bought this watch for my husband. He knew he wanted a G-Shock watch and we found this one on Amazon. He loves it. He found out a friend of his bought the same watch from the mall for $30 more.

I have had several ""Iron Man"" Timex watches and also have owned Casio watches. One common problem has been
replacing the batteries. In many cases, it can only be done by a professional. Once in awhile the warranty has been voided once the battery is replaced. And of course, the watch seems to lose time as the battery dies down. So I saw the reviews on this watch and decided to try it. It has bee great. The G2310 is much easier to use and it has kept perfect time. I chose the digital model over the analog display because it is easier to see at night. The timer and stopwatch are easily available and I had no problems using them. If you travel out of the country moving through time zones is a breeze. Although I haven't had this watch long enough to evaluate all the features, I am very impressed with it so far Brad Curtis |
