3.0 out of 5 stars I use mine for scuba diving
I've owned this watch now for about 2 years. I bought it online without trying it first. It's held up well to abuse. I have one scratch right in the middle of the display but it's only minor.

It fits really well on my wrist and I have typical wrists. I love the military styling. Wearing it makes me feel like I'm in special forces. The light green characters on...

4.0 out of 5 stars Like it a lot....some getting used to...., November 30, 2008
This review is from: Casio Men's G7710-1 G-Shock Trainer Shock Resistant Multi-Function Watch (Watch)
First of all it's a casio, and with that comes the fact that it will take a beating and not quit...Really like the fact that the city codes it shows for the time zones are more in line with major cities that you may actually go to. Love that the world time is set up so you can see home time above the city in the world you may be in. Handy for when I gotta call my wife at home and I'm in a different time zone. Getting used to the dark display, my other casios all have the lighter screen...People criticize the timer, but for me it's excellent due to the fact you can do a long enough time option to cover any flight (since I work on airplanes, that's a great thing). I also like the strap, even though it's rubber, and usually they scratch or dig into my skin. The looks are great.

Now, to the negative...the alarms are very low compared to my other casios...and the even though the led options are great for the alarm/timer/etc., I wish it was like in the "mudman" where the whole circumference of the watch seemingly lights up. Unless it is really dark around you it's not that noticeable.

Only give it four stars because I can't sync the alarm to the city of the world I may be in, and because the alarm isn't loud enough for me....

As far as a watch and for the price....it's an excellent buy, perfect size if you have a smaller wrist. Good luck!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Extra "Perks"..., June 5, 2008

Like all Multi Functional G-Shock Models this one is loaded!

2 options I found that were extremely helpful.

The first of which is contrast adjustment. I was reluctant to go with the negative display (Light digits on a Black background) but it looks so cool I took a chance. The contrast can be adjusted to bring out the digits in different lighting conditions. A first for Casio as far as I know.

The second perk is a "flash" alert. There are two led's embedded at 6 o'clock that flash when an alarm event is activated. Countdown/Alarm/Hourly etc... Perfect for when I'm wearing headphones and can't hear the tone!

There are a lot of features packed into this baby..."Casio-files" will LOVE IT!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, a Sleek G-Shock, March 28, 2010
By

This review is from: Casio Men's G7710-1 G-Shock Trainer Shock Resistant Multi-Function Watch (Watch)
This is my second G-Shock watch. Before this one, I had a "Riseman", which I found to be too bulky. Moreover, all of the gadget functions on it weren't all that accurate or useful.

I still liked the G-Shock line, though, and when I saw this one, I decided it was time to buy another G-Shock. I am so completely satisfied with this one, and I love it.

The adjustable contrast on the negative display is a nice function, but leaving it at the middle setting (4) - even in dim lighting - is fine. It's very, very legible, and I don't know what others have complained about. I was worried that I was buying the negative display for the 'coolness' at the sacrifice of clarity, but I'm happy with the display and find it to be no detriment to visibility.

The alarm is loud and high pitched. Very audible. The customizable by day and time functions of the alarms and signal are super handy. For instance, my hourly signal is active from 0800 hours through 2000 hours, and then it shuts off so as not to wake me while I sleep. Truly a set-it-and-forget-it function. Brilliant. I think the most wonderful function of the alarm, though, is the two flashing LED lights that go off when it's sounding; No problem finding the watch in the early dark hours to shut the chime off.

The stop watch, with memory, is really great. I do use it for running, but I've found that it's equally useful for timing flight legs during navigation. This watch is clearly built for athletic training, but it's turned out to be my favorite flight watch, now, because of the stop watch display and the great back-lighting of the face.

The calendar and world time functions are great - particularly if you work in an environment that uses ISO date settings and you need such things. I just leave it on the day of the year count because it's sort of neat to watch.

Lastly, and most importantly, this G-Shock doesn't hog all of the real estate on my wrist. I have normal sized wrists, and this G-Shock is sleek and thin compared to others. It goes in and out of a shirt cuff without getting hooked, feels very light on the wrist, and is really a joy to wear all day long.

Some have commented about the lack of Tough Solar charging. I'll be honest: with all of the bells and whistles on this watch (literally) like the LEDs and multiple sounds (which, incidentally can be muted by holding the "mode" button for a few seconds), the solar charging would be running out of power frequently. Furthermore, since it doesn't push out of my sleeve cuff and stay in the sun-light, I don't have to worry about it getting a charge to keep running. This watch probably needs good ol' fashioned battery power to keep up with the demand for all of it's neat functions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good, rugged watch, September 9, 2009

This review is from: Casio Men's G7710-1 G-Shock Trainer Shock Resistant Multi-Function Watch (Watch)
Since I've joined the Army, I have always worn a Casio G-Shock. They hold up well, particularly in the harsh climate and environment of Iraq. This watch is rugged and has alot of useful features. In particular, the dual time-zone is a handy way of keeping track of what time it is back in the States. I'm not sure that I'm a fan of the black background and white numbers though, because in low light it becomes a little hard to read. Otherwise, like all the other G-Shocks I've had, this does what it is suppose to in rough environments.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Watch!, August 11, 2009

This review is from: Casio Men's G7710-1 G-Shock Trainer Shock Resistant Multi-Function Watch (Watch)
I am not a watch Guru, however; I can tell you that the watch is durable, awesome/agressive looking, the many alarms feature is great (alm 1 -alm 4, a hourly alrm, and a snooze alarm) and it gives you the control to set the alarms for daily, week days, weekend, or once, the dual time feature in the same area so you don't have to swap back and forth to see the other time zone, the date M/D/Y display is great and you can switch from week count down to dual time + date or Y/M/D, the stop watch is accurate to the thausand of a second, the dual timer allows me to set one up for 45 seconds and the second for 15 seconds allowing me to time myself between working out and breaks! the world time is another cool feature specially if you travel a lot or have family/friends around the world! Overall it is awesome and as usual Amazon. com has the best prices!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product!!, June 20, 2009

This review is from: Casio Men's G7710-1 G-Shock Trainer Shock Resistant Multi-Function Watch (Watch)
I bought this watch because I was looking for something inexpensive and durable since I recently was accepted into Navy OCS. I wanted something that I could bang and beat, while training to get into shape for basic training. This watch is standing up to everything that I've given it, running through woods, pushups in mud, swimming in the ocean, backpacking. Its functions are great especially the stopwatch, timer, and dual-city timekeeping. Great watch for the price!!

4.0 out of 5 stars G-Shock G7710-1 pushes hard, November 19, 2008

This review is from: Casio Men's G7710-1 G-Shock Trainer Shock Resistant Multi-Function Watch (Watch)
Needed a new Casio after 16 years, looked for something that looks nice, bought this one. Display is a little hard to read, choose it if you like it cool. Buttons are hard to press, esp. the light button. Alarms could be more audible. Countdown timer is not very useful, since it is only one, and the other starts only sequentially. The rest is standard, question still is, do we need a watch that can resist a truck driving over it? Would I be intact afterwards, wearing this watch? Well, well, the timepiece makes its point, it shows the time. OK price for that, good quality material.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent watch for the athlete and adventure-goers, April 1, 2011

This review is from: Casio Men's G7710-1 G-Shock Trainer Shock Resistant Multi-Function Watch (Watch)
I decided to write a review a year and a half after purchasing this watch. I wear the watch most days. I use it to time my workouts, time between sets, and splits while running. This watch is great looking and very durable. I have not had to replace the battery as of yet. I went through 3 Underarmour watches which shut down within 1 year before I bought this watch and it has had no problems. The only qualm I do have about this watch is that it loses a couple seconds every week on time but I'm sure that is probably the case for many watches.

This watch has more functions than I can possibly use. You can read the product description to see all that information. I merely wanted a watch that is durable, functional, well-built, stylish (at least to me) and value-priced. This watch meets all those needs.

There is an indiglo backlight with button placed squarely on the front of the watch (just below the dial) for easy access. You have some options to decide what information gets shown on the main display. I like being able to see the time, date, and day of week (I always seem to lose track of that). I've used the stopwatch/lap timer feature a few times. I don't take it with me when I run, but with a 50-lap timer, it could be useful if my primary running watch ever breaks. Another feature that is really nice is the ability to turn off the beep. Most digital watches beep when you switch between modes. I have a $10 Casio that does this and you can't turn the beep off on that one. So I am very thankful this watch allows you to disable the beep.

I was a little bit worried about the size of the watch. It's a little larger than most watches I wear and I was worried it might look too big on my wrist, but it looks fine. I especially like the reverse display (black dial with light numbers). I wish they made more watches that way. I'm not exactly sure how long the watch band will hold up over time. I've only had it a couple months, but the band feels like average quality, meaning it will likely break well before the watch stops working. But other than that the build quality feels solid and if it performs as well as my other (non G-Shock) Casios then I expect it to last for a long time.

A few minor gripes - the watch band is excessively long. I have small/average wrists so the band wraps almost completely around to the other side and sticks out a little bit too much. The buttons are also recessed into the case a little bit more than I would like, but that's not a huge deal. There are about 6 different modes, and you have to cycle through all 6 of them to get to any one of them. It would be nice to be able to set one mode as shortcut and be able to toggle back and forth between that and the main display instead of having to go through all 6 every time.

This watch is pretty inexpensive for a G-Shock, yet it offers most of the same functionality as models costing 3x-4x more. I'm satisfied that it's well worth the money.

G7710-1 (Casio Men's G-Shock Trainer Shock Resistant Multi-Function Watch #G7710-1) review as of 7/26/2009

Overview

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________

White numbers on black background = negative display.

I use it primarily in dual time mode. With dual time city (Delhi, India) displayed at top and home city time (Dallas, Texas) as main display.

I never part with this watch - even if I am sleeping, washing dishes or bathing. Quite comfortable in all facets of life.

Worth the money ([..] ) - even if you break the strap. This was important for me as one might buy a []watch but cannot find a replacement for the strap if one happens to break it.

There are other colored models available for this watch as well, you might want to check the casio website for model names. I am posting a link here, if amazon doesn't delete it, here it is:

[..]

Pros

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________

+ Can be worn as dress watch

+ A lot of available time zones.

+ Dual city time at top with dual city code at left small window.

+ Dual city calendar in the middle - below the dual city time. The dual city day is displayed in the small window at the left.

+ Can be set to display world time. Three city times are displayed. Top: dual city time with dual city code in the small left window. Middle: third city time with its code in the left small window. Bottom (main display): home city time.

+ 24 hour/12 hour display with or without DST.

+ DST time can be set independently in dual city time and home city time.

Cons:

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________

- Quite thick at 15 mm case thickness. It might be prudent to try it with a shirt just to be sure it would look OK with your shirt cuffs buttoned.

- 24 hour display gets applied to both dual city time and home city time. This cannot be set independently of each other.

- The middle line in the dual time mode reads the date for dual time city. I would have preferred it to display date of home city. This is not a deal breaker, but just a matter of preference.

- Can be hard to read in one go if one is not used to negative display. But one gets used to it over time.

- The automatic illumination switches off automatically in some time, so it might be off when you actually need it. The same is also documented in the watch manual itself.

- The manual that comes with this watch is quite hard to read because of its lower font. Download a pdf manual from casio website instead - which you can zoom-in and read using a pdf reader on your computer. If the amazon doesn't suppress the link, here is the link for the pdf manual on the casio website:

[.]

- The light button at the bottom (the button with G on it) is hard to press, especially when you are half awake and want to see the time.

- I found the DST time to be not accurate for my dual city: Delhi, India. If I switch the DST on for Delhi, the time for Delhi gets ahead by 1 hour. And as a matter of fact, there is no DST in Delhi, India. So this leads me to believe the DST time is not accurate for the dual city. Although the time might be getting calculated by the watch relative to my home city: Dallas, TX. In which case it might be correct as well. But as a user, I found it to be incorrect.

Comparison with G7700-1 (Casio Men's G-Shock Trainer Multi-Function Shock Resistant Watch #G7700-1) as of 7/26/2009

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________

~ G7700 is regular display watch: black numbers of white(/gray) background. Definitely easier to read in one go.

~ IMHO, G7700 cannot be worn as dress watch. It seems to me like a watch you would be wearing with your shorts or jeans.

~ Rest all the functionality is same for both G7700-1 and G7710-1.
