5.0 out of 5 stars Two Thumbs Up for G7900-1!
This just arrived in the mail today and here are my observations:

It's a big watch but it doesn't feel like one. The cuffs on the inside of the band make this the most comfortable G-Shock I've ever owned - especially since I have a fairly small wrist. I had previously ordered the Gulfman because I wanted the Tide Graph but it just didn't fit right and it...

2.0 out of 5 stars Sizzled Face
I am always looking for that "cool" holiday gift for my construction-welder husband, and when I read the durability ratings and the high marks for the Casio G-SHOCK... I thought I found it! Needless to say, after less than a week, the face of the watch was pitted out. The Timex Ironman performed way better than the G-SHOCK. He can not even read the time! $120.00 down the...

This review is from: Casio Men's G7900-1 G-Shock Rescue Digital Sport Watch (Watch)
This just arrived in the mail today and here are my observations:

It's a big watch but it doesn't feel like one. The cuffs on the inside of the band make this the most comfortable G-Shock I've ever owned - especially since I have a fairly small wrist. I had previously ordered the Gulfman because I wanted the Tide Graph but it just didn't fit right and it wasn't comfortable. After searching for another G-Shock with the Tide Graph I found this one (the G7900-1) and it's great. I like the fact that it has 5 alarms and a countdown timer in addition to all of the other features. The styling is nice and modern, it's easy to read, and the red button in the lower right side gives it a nice touch. The moon phase indicator is nice and large too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Watch, December 20, 2010

This review is from: Casio Men's G7900-1 G-Shock Rescue Digital Sport Watch (Watch)
Love this watch.....Setup was a little difficult, but once I figured out the tide/moon settings I was off and running. Well made, beautiful, and very functional.
Don't over-complicate the tide/moon settings. Here's the easy way: Go to one of many graphs on the internet and figure out the moon rising and moon setting times for the next full night. Next, calculate the time exactly half way between the two. That gives you the High Moon time, that is, when the moon is highest above your house. Now get a tidal chart for your area and write down the time of the NEXT high tide after the High Moon time you wrote down. The tidal charts are all over the internet. The amount of time from your High Moon time to your next High Tide is the Lunitidal Interval that needs to be set on your watch. It's NOT complicated and is easy to set when you figure it out. The instruction booklet makes it sound way too difficult. Good luck....Hope you like the G-7900 as much as I do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rugged and an a useful training tool, December 1, 2010

Strong looking and solid to wear. Everything you need to train with. 5 Alarms, 2 timers, 1 countdown timer that can be set to auto repeat. A must have that seems to be lacking on some of Casio's better models. Casio better wake up and realize that the auto repeat timer is a valuable asset to people who stay fit. Use this watch with confidence and know that it is a Casio G Shock. Maybe a slightly slimmer package on the next model. Other than that thought, great piece.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good watch, big, easy to use, November 30, 2009
This review is from: Casio Men's G7900-1 G-Shock Rescue Digital Sport Watch (Watch)
I purchased this watch but ultimately returned it to seller.

Pro's: easy to read, nice alarm feature, easy to make adjustments, was exactly as it appears on the site.

Con's: for me personally I wish the watch was all black - I didn't really like the Red on the face, or the red button on the side. It would be cool is Casio made one of these that was all black but wasn't millitary/super dark.

If you are looking for a quality digital watch I think this would be good for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great G-Shock!, October 2, 2009

This is my third G-Shock watch in the last 25 years. My first lasted over 15 years; my second (DW-6900), sadly, was lost on a recent trip to Canada. I almost got an exact replacement, but it occurred to me that this was an opportunity to upgrade to a G-Shock with more features, so I started looking at the new line. I considered the upgraded version of my old watch, dubbed the GW-6900, but it was a 4-6 week wait time thru Amazon, and I didn't want to be without a G-Shock on my wrist for that long :)

I settled on the G-7900 as it had an interesting display layout -- not quite as symmetrical as the DW/GW-6900, but very readable -- important since I am now in my mid-40's, and I can't always locate my reading glasses! No atomic timekeeping or solar recharging, as on the GW-6900, but I realized that at this point, I don't really need those features.

The G-7900 has a nice, beefy feel to it, and though I was a little dubious about the rubber "wings" attached to the strap, they actually make the watch more comfortable to wear by keeping it from moving around on my wrist. I also much prefer the G-7900's chunky rubberized buttons over the smaller round metallic buttons on my old watch. Another great feature of this watch is the ability to move forward and backward while setting time, alarms, etc. - my old watch would only allow forward movement through the settings, so if you missed the mark, you'd have to go all the way around to it again - seemingly a minor thing, but I did find it rather aggravating. The G-7900's moon phase feature is cool, but since I live in northern Texas, I doubt the tide feature will get used much :)

About the only thing I can think of that could be considered a minus would be the backlighting; it's not as bright as the backlighting on my old watch. I will say, though, that the watch is readable in all but the lowest light, and in very dim settings, the backlight is quite adequate to illuminate the display. Maybe Casio implemented this dimmer lighting to save battery life?

Overall, I have to say that I LOVE my new watch. If you're a G-Shock fan, I would suggest that you take a look at the G-7900; if you're not currently a G-Shock fan, check one out -- you, too, might find something new to love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Living up to standards, November 20, 2010

In the Military we have standards that are expected for us to live up to and before I bought this watch I saw a buddy of mine try to destoy one with a hammer and a nail...it lived up to the standards of the G-Shock expectations and brutal beating. He still has the WORKING watch.

4.0 out of 5 stars Large but fits well, August 5, 2010

This is a large watch...nearly as large as my Suunto but due to its articulated strap it fits on the wrist very well. This Casio band is fitted with...well wings...that cradle the watch and center it on your wrist. This type of band seems new to Casio and I would encourage Casio to use this band on more G Shocks. For me the best feature of the "wings" is that they are removable. I have a small wrist and by removing them the articulated band fits perfectly. Another G Shock with a similar band is the Casio Men's DW9052-1V G-Shock Classic Digital Watch which again is large but fits very comfortably. I deducted one point from this Casio for its massive size.

The watch in itself is great, it looks great, has many functions, and is great for an everyday consumer.I was only little disappointed, and should have been aware of the fact, so it is my fault, but the illumination lasts for a few seconds. I work as a nurse so on night shifts and your trying to read heart rates for 30 seconds-1 min, you need the light to stay on a bit. So i end up being more ingenuitive with my light source. Back on topic the watch feels very comfortable around your wrist, do not be afraid by the two gray flaps around the back side of the watch, it actually makes it comfortable. And the look of this watch is actually very classy and also fun/manly something you can wear everyday without fail. As a night shift nurse the one thing that I do appreciate is the date showing up because you often forget what day it is sometimes working 3 in a row!

5.0 out of 5 stars Took me three tries, but finally a new Casio that works for me., September 19, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Casio Men's G7900-1 G-Shock Rescue Digital Sport Watch (Watch)
After umpteen years, I lost my old Casio watch and ordered a new one. Uhmmmm, Casio couldn't leave things alone and juggled features on its watches - and pricing. The first two replacement Casio watches went back because they were lacking features I wanted, like a time that went more than 60 minutes and buttons that I could actually push. (I wish Amazon and Casio would provide more detailed information on features on the respective websites. A feature comparison chart would be a great help.)

This one provides two long-duration stopwatches (which I will make frequent use of), a countdown timer (another must-have for me) and five alarms (which I will rarely use). It has an interesting and minimally useful graphic stopwatch indicator and a tidal chart which is useless in the Midwest. (Lake Michigan, the nearest large body of water to me, has a tidal movement of about one inch.)

It does not have an atomic clock synchronization feature, which I would like, but is reserved for the next pricing level which is more than I want to spend.

The G-Shock watches look huge in the photos and they are bigger than the typical watch. However, despite being large, they are not at all heavy. The band has a pair of "wings" which stabilize the watch on your wrist, a very nice feature.

The face is reasonably uncluttered and the time and date are large and can be easily seen. The light switch is large and on the front, which makes it much more readily accessible than on most of the watches I've owned.

Finally, the buttons for mode adjustment and stopwatches and timers are wonderfully large, which makes using the watch a joy.

Timekeeping accuracy for the week I've had it is excellent.

Altogether, a very nice package and a more than adequate replacement for my lost Casio.

Jerry

I just got this watch today, but I can already tell it's going to be a really tough long lasting watch. Its a rugged looking watch which I really like and I think it looks better than the picture! Very easy to use and setup, even though it already came pretty much set up straight out of the box. I love it so far and will update my review in due time!
