5.0 out of 5 stars Great watch!
This is really a great watch. I am a firefighter and I need watches that can stand the toughest environments.....I always wear a G-Shock. Having already owned a G-Shock before buying this watch, I know this thing will last me a lifetime. 3.0 out of 5 stars Poor reception
The idea of auto adjustment is pretty neat in theory, but not the case in practice.

To adjust the watch, you have to lay it flat in a place where good reception is available. I live in Northern California where there are few tall buildings. Yet the watch still has difficulty get signals from atomic clocks. So far, the watch has not been able to receive any...

This is really a great watch. I am a firefighter and I need watches that can stand the toughest environments.....I always wear a G-Shock. Having already owned a G-Shock before buying this watch, I know this thing will last me a lifetime. A great thing about this particular watch is that not only does it have the durability of a genuine G-Shock, it also has great looks. I wear this watch on a nice outfit and people think I'm wearing a really expensive watch. Little do they know I only spent less than $100 on it.
Some of the other cool features of this watch are the auto time setting via the atomic clock and especially the solar power. All my life I dealt with watches that need a battery replacement, and after wearing a watch for a long time and the screws on the back cover become permanently attached to the case, battery replacement becomes a pain in the *$%! This watch on the other hand you never need to worry about batteries.....simply put it by the window sill when it says it needs charging.
Lastly, I love the light-up feature. No need to fumble with any buttons for the watch to light up to read time in the dark. The watch is smart enough to sense ambient light on its solar cells to know if the light-up feature needs to be activated. So if you are out in the sun and look at your watch, the light doesn't come on. And also, the great feature about the light is also that it never drains the battery. If you happen to drain the battery (which would like never happen unless you've been living in the dark for like a year), simply place the watch under a desk lamp or by the window during the day. The darn thing charges itself if you walk around without the front of the watch being covered.
I love this watch and have grown ever so confident in Casio and it's life of G-Shock watches. You can never go wrong with this watch!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, October 20, 2006
This review is from: Casio Men's GW1400DA-1AV G-Shock Ana-Digi Solar Atomic Watch (Watch)
this watch is full of easy to use features. first the solar charging, never a battery to change (works best in sunlight). on a full charge will go for over 9 months using little power. the atomic reception is best at night. set the watch in a window with little metal and no appliances around (or outside). You can do a manual receive, or let the watch do it on its own. it is factory set to receive at midnight, 2:00 am, 3:00, 4:00 am everyday. if the battery is too low the auto receive will turn off or you can turn it off yourself. the lights work very well and can be set to turn on when you turn your wrist (very cool). the only down side is the size of the lcd screen and the alarm only goes for 10 seconds. but if you are like me you buy this watch mostly for the analog part, and the accuracy (+or- 15 seconds a month without sycning with the atomic clock in colorado) and convenience of solar power.
I have pretty large wrists and this watch was actually on the smallest size still quite too large, so i removed two links and it fits perfectly (my wrists are 8" around)
the price is also excellent. Target was the only place I found this watch (besides here) and they sell it for $250.00. Amazon sells it for $64.00 (184 less than Target). this watch is also approved for diving at depths of up to 200M (650 feet) This watch is also built like a tank, and is therefore thick like a tank. but the engineers at casio did a good job making this watch look good

Yet the watch still has difficulty get signals from atomic clocks. So far, the watch has not been able to receive any signals indoor for adjustment.

On the other hand, the watch is built like a tank. I wouldn't think twice if I need to take this watch biking or diving. Sold at Amazon for about 1/3 or 1/4 of its MSRP, it's a pretty sweet deal.

4.0 out of 5 stars great value watch!, December 5, 2006
This review is from: Casio Men's GW1400DA-1AV G-Shock Ana-Digi Solar Atomic Watch (Watch)
I've had a couple of casio watches in the past, pathfinders to gshocks. This watch is not too big, though it has a pretty thick face, the material looks and feels pretty sturdy.

Setting of the watch is not too difficult, it's similar to other casio watches. I did not have problems getting the hands to match the digital time, it appeared to do it automatially, although i believe you have a feature to intentionally set them out of sync. Radio atomic reception is great, (Austin, Tx). The light is based of two led's on the left and right of the watch face. Although it's not as bright/easy to read as the full illuminator watches that casio/timex has, it sufficiently lights up the screen to read the time, and is quite pretty.

Pro's
-great value, for 79 usd, you get gshock, solar, atomic, metal band
-as a previous reviewer mentioned, you can remove links from the watch in about 10-15 mins with a sharp tipped knife

Con's
-A little heavy
-Digital readout is tiny but adequate (the watch can actually display the current time of day in that tiny circular lcd panel)
-No countdown timer
-Alarm is really short and pretty soft, but that seems to be the case of all casio solar watches

Very nice quality. Thought the Atomic timekeeping would be more of a gimmick but now I really appreciate as I never need to adjust time. I like the looks but wife thinks it is too bulky. I gave it 4 stars because the red hour hand and the small LCD windows are not easy to read at a glance.

This is the best G-Shock I have owned. It looks sleek as well as casual. I had no trouble receiving the nightly signal (I live in Northern New Jersey). The solar power is an added bonus. A really good deal for the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Atomic Solar Watch, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Casio Men's GW1400DA-1AV G-Shock Ana-Digi Solar Atomic Watch (Watch)
The watch was a great item. It's convenient as no setting or winding is involved and Casio's reputation as a watchmaker is of the highest repute.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good watch, May 12, 2007

PROS:
Atomic time: you never have to worry about setting the time
Solar power: All you have to do to recharge is put it in your window or go outside
Water resistant: you could go swimming with it and its still ok
Durable: I go running with it and it doesn't ruin it
Easy controls: it is fairly simple to understand the controls and there is a detailed pamphlet to explain everything
Smart light: the backlight turns on automatically when you turn your wrist inwards
Cons:
Backlight: the lights are 2 blue LED's. They are fairly bright. It isn't as convenient as other watches because it is hard to read the digital text. Also you can't just hold the light button down; it automatically turns off after 1.5-3 seconds (depending on settings). The chrome on the inside often makes it difficult to read with the backlight on.
Overall: This watch is definitely great for the money and I am very satisfied with this purchase it looks very nice but it still has all the conveniences of a sports watch

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely a man's watch, April 22, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Casio Men's GW1400DA-1AV G-Shock Ana-Digi Solar Atomic Watch (Watch)
This is a very masculine, heavy watch. My Brother in law stated,"that isn't a watch, it's a weapon!" The "Pros": Good looking, all stainless steel, Crystal is well protected by deep face, lighted dial works well, bracelet is well made with "easy to adjust" band, fairly easy to adjust all functions, keeps time and sets itself very well, solar feature is reliable, "radium" numerals and hands last through the night. The "Cons": The watch looks and feels heavy, The red hour hand is detrimental at times, the three "windows" at the bottom of the dial are fairly hard to read, the automatic light with a twist of the wrist is a nuisance at night--I switched it off, Alarm hasn't been tried so I can't comment on that. All in all, I'm delighted with the watch and for the money it's a steal !!
