Review,
This review is from: Casio Men's GW1500A-1AV G-Shock Ana-Digi Solar Atomic Watch (Watch)
The atomic function makes this about as accurate as a watch can be. The other functions work okay. Solar energy is nice - never need to worry about a battery. World time is a waste. There are better stop watch functions out there if that is important to you - it is not to me. Coolest feature may be that it automatically illuminates at night when you turn your wrist to look at the time.
This is a HUGE watch. Sits high on the wrist - many long sleeve shirts will not button with this watch on.

difficult to make out the time at night,

Sync with the atomic clock is great as is the solar charged battery but #1 drawback of this watch is that it's difficult to read at night. The light comes from 9 & 3 o'clock, not a back light. The minute & hour hands are difficult to make out on the busy surface even on the longer light setting of 3 seconds while the small digital display window remains completely in the dark. Also this unfortunately has only one daily alarm.

Versatile Watch with Good Looks
The GShock GW1500A-1AV is a versatile watch with rugged good looks. I love the Digi/Analog feature combined with the solar power and atomic timekeeping. The one detractor would be the luminescence on the analog hands. They describe the LED light with after-glow (the hands), but without a stronger light there is little "glow" to the hands. Over all, a very good watch.

I purchased my first G-Shock because I was impressed with the Casio Gz-One cell phones. I used to stay away from Casio until my employer issued me the military grade phone. I used to associate Casio with a cheaper grade of electronics. Not anymore. I am very impressed.
Excellent watch looks good, fairly easy to set and operate. Once you set it up, you should never have to set the time again. The face is a bit hard to read at times, especially in low light situations. The LEDs don't light up the watch face all that well. But ironically, I do use the light to find my way around in the dark (it's just bright enough that you wont hit the coffee table in the middle of the night). The auto light feature comes in handy. At times it can be a distraction. It's easy to turn this feature off with one button. The only suggestion I have to someone purchasing this watch is to place it in the sunlight for a bit to fully charge the battery. There is no telling how long it's been boxed up and away from its power source (the sun). I work inside in a windowless office and have never had an issue with the watch being solar. Excellent watch, tough as nails and looks much better in person than I expected. Good buy.

For the price Im not that happy,
This review is from: Casio Men's GW1500A-1AV G-Shock Ana-Digi Solar Atomic Watch (Watch)
Ive had this G shock about a year and a half now. Seems like every 6 months something starts to go wrong. At first it was the LED to light the face at around 6 months. Since the hands are luminous I decided I could live without it because sending it in is a pain. Then at about a year it would stop keeping analog time if I took it off and the watch sat a temp. lower then about 80 degrees. I had to reset the analog time almost daily. It was out of warranty at this point, I called and casio told me it would cost me $60 to fix it. I was not doing that. Now, the reset for the analog hands does not work, so Its just got digital time now. When I bought this thing I wanted an all black, tough analog watch that would last a while. So much for that. The digital features and the self updating time have been great, but a year and a half into ownership the hands dont work, cant be set and you better light a match if you want to see what time it is in the dark: Buyer beware.

Great, if only it lasted more than 2 years!,
This review is from: Casio Men's GW1500A-1AV G-Shock Ana-Digi Solar Atomic Watch (Watch)
While it lasted, it worked great. The Atomic timekeeping, solar was fantastic, and the watch itself quite rugged. Unfortunately, after slightly more than 2 years (was a birthday gift June 2006), it started acting up. First, the auto-light sensor stopped working. The LCD portion has lost one segment, so it is very hard to read. Then, more seriously, the watch's atomic receptor stopped working, failing every time I try to get a new sync. Worse yet, it now resets itself to 1/1/2000 every night. The whole reason I bought this was to have it last for a long time. It is out of warranty, and I'm not about to throw good money after bad, especially after reading about other people's bad service experiences.

In general this has been an excellent watch. I particularly like the atomic timekeeping feature, which even works to adjust for daylight savings time.
I have, however, experienced a couple of difficulties. The first is that the solar battery occasionally dies if you've been indoors for a period of days. This can be unnerving as the watch appears to have failed altogether, but putting the watch under a lamp or in the sunlight usually brings it back to life. Second, the hands are not always easy to read. They tend to blend in a bit too well with the background. On the other hand, I have not found some of the negatives reported by others to be true. For instance, the watch's light works quite well, and those reporting that it is poor just are not telling the truth. While the calendar dial is very small, it turned out to be much easier to read than I had expected. The watch is also, in my opinion, very stylish, to the extent that I have bought two of them.

perfect,
Perfect: no setting the time, no changing the battery, mechanically tough, two wrist position sensitive blue LEDs, synchronized wirelessly with the NIST atomic clock, powered by any source of light, survives over three months of complete darkness, tracks time in other major cities, and some splashes of black and red.
