Great watch, has no problem syncing with atomic time server, smaller profile than most G shocks. I wear it every day with no problems, also like the solar feature that recharges internal battery. My only complaint is that there are no replacement bands available, at least at this time. I don't need one yet but experience has shown that these type of bands don't last forever and will need replaced at some point. Hopefully, a band will become available by the time I need one. But, don't let that deter you from purchasing this watch, I've very happy with it!

G-Shock Solar Atomic Watch is an excellent timekeeper. Noteworthy is the fact that the screen goes blank when it is in the dark, but as soon as it is exposed to light, the black digits re-appear. It is sometimes difficult to depress the light button, but it is well protected from exposure to any type of moisture. The solar power and the automatic synchronization are both excellent features.
Also like the fact that the buckle has two latches. The band is very comfortable compared to most of the Casio watches that only have a single prong buckle. The watch is easy for use with time zones. An excellent feature if you have to travel into different time zones. Most important of all is that it lives up to the toughness of the "G-Shock" tradition.

I've been a digital watch freak since the first LED watches went on the market. I've had dozens of LED and LCD watches in the decades since, and this watch definitely is the best so far.
First off, the watch came well-packed by Amazon. They estimated eight days arrival time, I got it two and a half days after I placed my order. I've been wanting a solar atomic for some time now. I've had solar, but not atomic. I was a little dubious of the reliability of the atomic timekeeping function, both because of spotty customer reviews on some atomic models from various people and also because I have a couple of atomic weather stations that I always have to set manually because I can never get the signal. However, I have yet to experience a problem with receiving the signal with this watch. I have always kept it on a windowsill at night, I have not tried locations away from windows yet. I have thin wrists and was a bit worried that the watch might look ridiculously large on me. However, it is fine. This particular model has a bit of a smaller profile than other G-Shocks, which is one reason I got it. The buttons are a real bear to push. I was surprised at the amount of resistance, even though I had read comments saying the buttons were tougher to push than on most other brands. I would not recommend this watch to people with arthritic fingers for that reason. The backlight, while serviceable, is not very bright. However, that could be because the battery is not up to full charge yet (when I got the watch the battery was at "M", or halfway). The manual does give some useful statistics on charging times for different lighting conditions. Speaking of the manual, unless you are blessed with extremely sharp eyesight, I recommend you find a user manual .PDF file online, download it, and print it out. Casio went with the business-card-sized booklet and the corresponding "how many angels can fit on the head of a pin" font, and though well-written and informative, it was darn near impossible for this guy with middle-aged eyes to read. I kind of have to wonder why Casio felt it necessary to have a 1/100ths second stopwatch that goes up to 1000 hours, but as they say in the wiring biz, better a foot too long than an inch too short. Also oddly, the countdown timer only starts from a maximum of 60 minutes. A little more balance between the stopwatch and countdown timer time ranges perhaps? However, I'm nitpicking here. Overall, this is an awesome watch with a neat boxy, 80's retro look to it. It works exactly as advertised, and added to my opinion that Casio is the best overall digital watch maker out there. I recommend this watch wholeheartedly!

Good Watch,
This review is from: Casio Men's GW5525A-1 G-Shock Limited Edition Atomic Tough Solar Watch (Watch)
I chose this watch for its simplicity, and I am VERY HAPPY with it. The watch is set for the Cesium clock in Japan, so it must be configured for the Cesium clock in Colorado or it will register a signal error. This is done by reading the comprehensive instructions. I took the back off in attempt to reset it, but the battery can't be removed. In the process I messed up the buttons, so I had to take the back off again to fix the buttons. In the process I may have not seated the O-ring right, but if the crystal develops condensation I'll have to take the back off a third time, dry it out and fix the O-ring. When I shorted the battery it drained the battery and reset, but after wearing it in the sun mowing the yard it charged to high and stayed there ever since.
I'm a little worried about the watch band and replacing it if it ever breaks. I might try and obtain a couple of extras from Casio. It doesn't use the standard spring pins. The band is unique to this watch, and it's made of plastic. The watch has calibrated with the Cesium clock in Colorado every day so far without fail. I am hoping this continues and that it will be as good a watch for me as the similar-looking Casio watches of the 1980's.

This is a great looking watch. Better outside than in the picture. I wanted to write a blog/review about the specific atomic sync functionality, which I couldn't find in google or any other review, about how the watch syncs up time. I thought of writing this down, so if somebody is looking on how this works, before buying the watch, they can read my review.
When i read the specifications online on Amazon that the watch syncs with US/UK/Japan Cesium clocks, i thought i can sync the time whenever i want,by pressing a button, but its not that way. In US its going to sync with the clock in Colorado. It might work, but not all over the US I guess. I tried at different places in NJ, but it always showed a weak signal ( L1) or sometimes no signal at all, after some time it used to error out( i.e., failed to sync). Its clearly mentioned in the booklet like weather, tall buildings might affect the signal, but one don't get to read the booklet until they buy the watch. So i thought of sharing my opinion on this feature. I almost decided to return the watch as the sync functionality failed, whenever i tried to sync up the time manually, it used to error out. L1 is weak and L3 is strong signal, the watch displays the signal strength when one tries to manually sync the time. There is second option to auto-sync with the atomic clock, for this i had to leave the watch near a window at night, so between 12:00am and 5:00am it tries to sync with the atomic clock. This worked for me. But when I left the watch inside my house ( not near a window) at night, it couldnt receive the signal. So whenever i want to auto-sync I leave it near a window. So now I dont have any issues with the sync. I couldn't get this information before i bought the watch, so thought of sharing my view on this functionality. Now i decided to keep the watch, as this feature works ( in auto mode) and its a great looking piece.

Totally bombproof. Comfortable too, due to the wide band I suppose. You don't know it's there until you need to know the time or date. Sure you can spend more on a watch but why would you? Too bad this is a limited edition. Get one while they last. Casio would be insane not to let this one stay in the catalog but they still have it listed as a 25th anniv limited. I've been considering picking up a spare just in case they do the unthinkable. This watch does not wear like a hockey puck either. Nice and flat on the wrist unlike some Gs. I wish six stars would have been an option. It's THAT good!

Classic Casio,

Received this watch as a holiday gift and it hasn't left my wrist.
The sync function works flawlessly when placed on my windowsill facing west. I have received many positive comments on it's style and the awestruck,"What kind of watch is that!" I love this watch as it brings me back to 25 years ago when I wore an original G. One can never go wrong with Casio. You just finished shopping : Click on this one and be glad you did.

Nostalgia, with lots of extras!,
This review is from: Casio Men's GW5525A-1 G-Shock Limited Edition Atomic Tough Solar Watch (Watch)
I was shopping for a watch to replace my all time favorite, the Casio that my wife gave me 5 years ago. It was a silver metal radio controlled digital that had bunches of features like solar power, world time, stopwatch, 5 alarms (very important to me) and even a databank where I could store SS and PIN numbers for myself, my elderly parents, my wife and son. That watch has served me well AND I've never had to replace the battery or set the time. I had to look far and wide just to find a solar powered and radio controlled watch with the required 5 alarms. Finally, I came across the "Limited Edition" GW5525A-1. It has the alarms, the world clock and the stop watch. It doesn't have the databank, which is a real shame, but it has another very useful function that the previous Casio didn't have. A countdown timer. I'm a musician and frequently use a countdown timer to keep my practicing on schedule. The watch is a "G-shock" and built to be worn all of the time. I've gone swimming with it with no problems. I enjoy the fact that it looks just like the very earliest digitals that Casio made. I had a watch years ago that looked just like this but only did the things you could see on the face, which is to say, the time, the day and the date. But back in those days, that was way cool, and I for one think that it still is. The black plastic band and the olive green face are a bit of nostalgia just thrown in for good measure.

Last year model, overpriced,

Amazon carried this watch last year, it was sold around $65-$70 at one time. This is one of G-Shock's 25 Anniversary Limited Edition releases engraved with a commemorative 25th Anniversary logo. The watch band seems to be a bit thin, other than that, everything else is great. This watch packaged with an G-Shock's 25 Anniversary Limited Edition round shape tin box and a g-shock logo metal tag necklace, but it didn't mention here in the description, don't guarantee you will get it or not.
