5.0 out of 5 stars G Shock Mudman Review
I've only had this watch for a few days, but I have to say that I love it so far. I'm a watch guy, and I've never really bought a watch of this type before. I've always bought more dressy or sport watches. Most of the reviews on here are right on the money. The watch is light on the wrist, and comfortable. 1.0 out of 5 stars Amazon at its finest
This product was sent to me instead of the watch I ordered, which was a G-shoch Gulfman...........When I contacted customer service and explained the whole problem they were very polite but sent me another "Mudman". In the meantime they had corrected their website and no longer offered the "Gulfman". It took 4 more phone calls to customer service to receive the credit...

5.0 out of 5 stars G Shock Mudman Review, March 14, 2009

I've only had this watch for a few days, but I have to say that I love it so far. I'm a watch guy, and I've never really bought a watch of this type before. I've always bought more dressy or sport watches. Most of the reviews on here are right on the money. The watch is light on the wrist, and comfortable. The buttons are a tiny bit tough to push, but nothing of any concern whatsoever in my opinion. The atomic sync is awesome... totally awesome. Mine syncs up on the nightstand (every day at midnight) & no where near a window. I find this model to be very attractive looking for what it is, yet still tough/rugged. I don't think I'll be the guy who's overly rough with it, but I did buy it for every day wear and tear around the house, at the gym, and outdoor activities... It seems to be the perfect fit. It's not over-sized at all in my opinion. Highly recommended so far. I'll make an attempt to report back in after a couple of months.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well made watch, April 16, 2009

So far I really like this watch. I was a little afraid that it would be too bulky, but that has not been and issue at all. It is on the large side compared to the timex ironman watches I have had in the past, but not so large as to look funny or feel strange.

I chose this one over the Mudman g9000 because of the solar power and atomic clock features. If you don't care about either of these, I would go with the 9000 because it has a slightly better interface and is cheaper.

I am the kind of nerd that loves the idea that my watch is within a fraction of a second of the offical atomic clock time. For me that makes this watch worth the extra $40.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very hard to fault!, July 2, 2009

This review is from: Casio Men's GW9010-1 G-Shock Mudman Solar Atomic Rally Watch (Watch)
I have quite a few G-Shocks, and this Mudman is spending a lot of time on my wrist (along with my perennial favourite, the Casio Men's G-Shock Classic Digital Watch #DW5600E-1V). Here's why:

Pros:
- Absolutely rock solid. Feels indestructible. You will only know what I mean after you've held one (all of the Mudman range share this same case, and it's a winner!)
- Easy-to-read.
- Solar powered with full auto illumination.
- Ability to show a second time-zone (with label, eg. "NYC") on main screen.

Cons:
- Buttons are hard to press. This isn't really a con; you do get used to it. But some people would find this annoying.
- "Rally Timer" - this will probably be used by 0.1% of people who buy this watch.

I'd like to talk about the display firstly - it's what attracts me to this watch so much. Many G-Shocks look too "busy" with their little circles counting off the seconds and other strange things cluttering up the display. This Mudman is a refreshing change - the numbers are centered in the face of the watch, they are in a nice "font" (ever so slightly leaning to the right, like italics), and it's generally just a pleasure to look at. Underneath the time, you can have the date, for example "THU 7 -2", or a second time zone, for example "NYC 7:57". Pure genius and so easy to read.

I won't go over every little feature, because most G-Shocks share the same core features -- what sets this apart for me, is simple: it's a solar-powered watch with easy-to-read display, set in the bulletproof "Mudman" case. It's very hard to fault this watch.

The whole "Rally timer" thing just confuses me, I've tried to understand it, but I personally don't have any use for it (the watch also features a standard Stopwatch which is much simpler to understand and use). Unfortunately the first two modes are "RALLY" and "RECord" which means you have to scroll through them every time you want to set an alarm, use the countdown timer, etc. No big deal I suppose.

I can't speak for the Atomic reception since I own the non-atomic version (I live in Australia), but I'm sure it works along the lines as all atomic G-Shocks (read: excellent if you are in a location that gets a good signal). Irrespective of this feature, the watch will keep excellent time on it's own.

Finally, the buckle is double-pronged which enhances the feeling of this being a solid watch, and the caseback features 6 little raised "bumps" which sit comfortably on the wrist and probably allow cool air to circulate underneath the watch.

For the money, this watch gives you a rock-solid watch which you can wear 24/7 if you like, to any activity, and will always be charged and showing the current time - what more could you ask for from a digital watch? I highly recommend this model of Mudman over the cool but far-too-cluttered G9000 (Casio Men's G-Shock Mudman Digital Sports Watch #G9000-1V) - the G9000 is cheaper (and I own 2 of them) but lacks the solar/atomic and easy-to-read display.

This review is from: Casio Men's GW9010-1 G-Shock Mudman Solar Atomic Rally Watch (Watch)
The watch is everything it is supposed to be and more. It is great fun, tremendously functional and tells the wearer when it has been updated and also how much battery power it has.

I could not be more pleased with its looks and capabilities..

5.0 out of 5 stars Solar/Atomic Mudman ROCKS!, April 18, 2009
This review is from: Casio Men's GW9010-1 G-Shock Mudman Solar Atomic Rally Watch (Watch)
I've had several watches down through the years but the GW9010 is the best of the best for what I want a watch to do - tell time!

Solar means I never have to worry about the battery (stays charged with very minimal light).

6 band atomic means it's always within .5 seconds of being dead on.

Display is crisp and shows time, day and date together which I really like.

The watch is tough and for any normal use - waterproof.

World time is a nice feature if you travel much.

The EL is bright, and can be set for auto if I need it to.

The band is large which fits my larger than average wrist perfectly.

The watch is very light weight (for such a large watch) and wears extremely comfortably.

There are a variety of timer functions but those don't mean much to me. It's just so nice to have a watch that's even more accurate than my cell phone or DRV. I mean, if my cell phone was more accurate than my watch, why would I use a watch?

It's not jewelry, it tells time. And it does that spectacularly well!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very similar to other Mudman...g9000A, September 14, 2009
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Casio Men's GW9010-1 G-Shock Mudman Solar Atomic Rally Watch (Watch)
This Mudman (Casio term for mud resistant, possibly more rugged than standard G-shocks) is very similar to the G9000A. There is the added feature of a rally timer for those who need it. This is the same watch as the GWM850... minus the mudman name and a few dollars cheaper.
I didn't need the rally timer. I did, however, want to be able to read the day, date and time of day on 1 screen without having to toggle between the date and day as on the gw9000. Of course, there is a trade off... too bad we can't contact Casio and let them know that tiny differences DO make a difference... when in timer mode on this watch, you can't tell what time it is. On the GW9000A (and GW810D), you are shown the time of day on the same screen as the countdown timer. On this watch, you aren't given the time of day in timer... instead the window that could/should have the time of day tells you how many minutes your timer was set for.
Great feature set on this watch and so far, not a scratch (and I am really rough on watches). Also, I love the auto illumination feature that I didn't think I'd care about when I bought the watch. It's really cool not to use 2 hands to turn on the light... and on this watch, you can set it between 1.5 or 3 seconds duration.

Don't love the red, but that's easy to fix by removing the paint from the lettering and painting over the metal ring under the bezel.

This review is from: Casio Men's GW9010-1 G-Shock Mudman Solar Atomic Rally Watch (Watch)
I've owned several G-shocks as well as other brand watches over many years and this watch has become one of my favorites. It is built solidly, stands up to any conditions, takes abuse, looks good, and it is very comfortable on my wrist. It syncs with the Atomic clock every night, so it functions with accuracy, also.

Backlight is outstanding-very easy to read even in total darkness. The display is easy to read in daylight. All kinds of functions and alarms make it a very useful timer. Finally, all of this at a great price! I would highly recommend this watch for anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite sports watch is no my son's!, June 27, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Casio Men's GW9010-1 G-Shock Mudman Solar Atomic Rally Watch (Watch)
After much research, I bought this watch about a year ago. It had all of the features I wanted, rally timer, countdown timer, and of course atomic solar. Great for mountain bike races/rallies and training. It picks up the atomic signal about 3 nights per week - I like to wear my watches 24 hrs. My friends and family said they had atomic watches and it wouldn't sync up - but they were wrong! it's perfectly on time, all the time. The buttons are a little hard to find and push in the dark, but it lights up nice. The date/day/time default view was what I was looking for. The only problem I've found is that if you set it to automatically illuminate and sleep with it on, it'll run the battery down pretty low. Otherwise the battery holds a near full charge all the time.

Little did I know that G-Shock watches would become the trend among teens & 20's in DC, the "real thing" is highly coveted and sought after. There's a whole market for knock off's from the Philippines & SE Asia. My 19 year old son had been eying mine, so I took it off my wrist and handed it to him on his birthday. Now I get to shop for a new one - definitely another G-Shock Atomic Solar

4.0 out of 5 stars G-Shock pros and cons, May 31, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Casio Men's GW9010-1 G-Shock Mudman Solar Atomic Rally Watch (Watch)
I bought this to replace an aging G-Shock I have had for around 20 years (still on its original battery!) Everything about the new watch is as advertised, but I have 2 small gripes. The Atomic Clock reception is pretty demanding and it won't sync unless the watches position is just right. Despite the claims otherwise, during a 2 week trip to Italy the watch didn't sync once with the European time servers. (A 'G' indicator tells you after a succesful sync.) Back home in the US, I can only get it to sync by putting it on a windowledge that faces west. However, the internal timekeeping is very accurate anyway so that isn't a killer defect. The other irritant is that the function buttons are very stiff to operate. It's impossible to operate them with gloves and quite hard with bare fingers. I wanted to use the Rally function while on a motorcycle competition and this was difficult. On the plus side, the wrist band is a generous size, and though the watch is big, it's comfortable to wear. Overall good value.

The only thing I wish was that the alarm was a little louder and you had to push a botton to make it go off instead of it going off by itself.
