5.0 out of 5 stars A phone that can be thrown...
I am not a cell phone addict. I just want it to work, and to put up with rough handling better than the wet Kleenex garbage phones I've had up to now. I typically have gotten about 6 months from a phone before it looks like it owed the Mafia money. This phone is the antidote to that. I've had it since it first came out, and it hasn't got so much as a scratch. You can...

1.0 out of 5 stars Buttons on the side create - what were they thinking?
I like this phone for durability BUT I have yet to take this phone out (or put it back) in the hip pouch without pushing the buttons on the side. Now I'm broadcasting b/c I hit the speaker button. Then putting it away or taking it out I hit the buttons a few more times and I turn the ringer off/down/mute whatever and now I miss calls. I have yet to pick up this phone...

You can read all about its specs, but this is the toughest, most dependable phone I've ever had. It's a really high quality item, and when it gets dirty, I just wash it off in the sink. The battery consistently lasts at least 3 days between charges, it has a good camera with lots of storage space, and the greatest thing is that the camera flash becomes a very good flashlight, which has come in handy so many times I lost count. I used to despise cell phones but had to have them. I won't leave the house without this one, and if it ever croaks (which I doubt) I'll get another one just like it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Built for the Real World, April 28, 2007

With my Cingular contract coming up for expiration, I was looking for a replacement phone and provider - especially with AT&T's <ugh> purchase of Bellsouth. About the best of both worlds.

The carrier stuff first. I dropped AT&T Wireless years ago because of lousy customer service. Cingular bought them. Cingular's customer service is so overbloated with bureaucratic nonsense spouted by mimimum wage idiots, I was ready to jump months ago...not to mention a history of user lawsuits and a factually-questionable "fewest dropped calls" campaign. Enuf already.

Verizon is repeatedly rated tops nationally, even though they hobble the features of some of their phones.

AllTel didn't have much of a selection.

Sprint/Nextel - despite tough phones - wasn't even a contender, continually rated the worst customer service nationwide.

The G'zone was the clincher for Verizon. This phone's tough. It has a nice substantial weight and feel. Keys and screen are easy to read.

Honestly, too, I'm not one to be another RAZR clone. The phones are too flimsy for my taste.

Minuses for some: no bluetooth nor MP3 (so, 4 out of 5). But, heck, it's supposed to be just a bloody PHONE, not a Vista laptop! And I've never been anxious to become another Borg with a Blinking Blue Bluetooth ear implant.

Things I love in particular: big ol' time readout, 2MP camera (useful for my line of work) and flashlight (which, as one reviewer pointed out, gets more use that I'd have imagined). Call quality is excellent, even while I notice my Cingular friends are dropping calls. Speaker is clear. Battery life is good, going 7-10 days without a recharge. Hint: extend the life of the battery by not constantly charging it. Let it drain completely now and then.

Menus are very, very easy and flexible - multiple numbers for the same contact - particularly compared to Moto-anything. And, heck, it's tough. Though I carry it in a holster, I'm not worried about dropping it or banging it. I'd certainly have no qualms taking this around with me outdoors during the next SoFla hurricane.

Finally, okay, I'll admit it, it's one kewl looking phone.

I have had the GZone for 1 week and I absolutely love it. I have had many phones and I think this surpasses them so far. It has a built in LED light that is a lifesaver. The phone takes excellent pictures. The only downfall (if you want to call it that) is I have been used to a keyboard for years and now I feel "text" challanged. I will overcome that with time and practice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Casio G'zOne, September 3, 2007
This review is from: Casio G'zOne Phone (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
I like:
It's waterproof and unattractive to the masses. Who cares? I can ride my bike in the rain with no worries about a cell phone. If it falls, no worries. I like it, unlike most electronic devices, I don't have to baby it. It's big, easy to do that 'shoulder-to-ear' thing, and fits in my hand like a proper telephone. Alot of people don't like big, but think about how big your razr is when you put a case with a clip on it and think about it again, it really isn't that big.

I dislike:
Speaker sounds a bit muffled, but through months of use it hasn't really bothered me. The menu system is a bit muddled, and most things are geared for people using the internet stuff, but I just got it because it's a phone.

Conclusion:
It's good. If you can handle slight imperfections, it is worth the price. Mind you, the price I paid was 100 dollars, and even that felt expensive to me. I feel it was a sound investment, and hope to use it for many years to come.

OK like other reviewers, I really don't care what the phone looks like or if it has a gazillion features, it just needs to WORK. I am a firefighter (water) and own a swimming pool service company as a side business. (Lots of water) I was missing my customers calls, due to the fact that my last couple of phones went swimming. Of course water and electronics don't mix. Leaving the phone in the truck just was not working. I was still missing calls. Now I can carry the phone on the job and not worry about getting it wet or dropping it on the concrete deck. (Most phones don't bounce well, either) Overall I am pleased with the phone, it is a little heavy, and somewhat bigger than most. The display area is great, even out in the bright sun, I can still see who is calling. I have a Casio divers watch that I bought in 1985. I have replaced the battery twice, if this phone lasts half that long then I will be well pleased.

If you want a durable phone to take punishment in any weather or conditions, this is it. Weighing in at 5.3 ounces, this isn't light or slim. It is the G-shock of phones.

A major drawback is no blue tooth capability. The buttons are responsive to pushing and the layout is similar to the LG line of phones. It has the capability to use a wired headset and the speakerphone option is available. Sounds are clear and a few decent ringtones are available. The speakerphone is loud and clear.

Another big draw is the flash and 2 MP phone. The display is clear and bright. Many of the standard Verizon features can be used (i.e. texting, internet, video, get it now, etc).

Aside from lacking the Bluetooth capability, it doesn't get any better than this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tough, Well Featured, and Practical, August 28, 2007
This review is from: Casio G'zOne Phone (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
I have the tendency to break my phones quite easily. I've gone through 5 different phones in the past 2 years just from dropping them and putting them through abuse. So when it was to Renew my contract I decided to skip the fancy stuff and go for the toughest phone on the planet. And THIS one is it. It's huge, I call it the TANK, but it's tough as a tank. Within 30minutes of getting the phone I decided to give it some test runs. So I threw it across the floor, dunked it in the pool, ran through water, let my dog chew on it, and even took it snowboarding with me. Other than a few surface scratches the phone has held up awesomely.

I personally think the phone looks really cool, but I often get a lot of curious looks from people asking me how old my phone is because it's huge, but they are always amazed when I tell them it's a shock resistant and water proof phone. If you want the will put up with whatever you can dish out within reason, then get this one. If you want a lot of features, get an iPhone and then cry when you realized you broke it in the first 3 months.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Other Phone Even Compare..., June 23, 2007
This review is from: Casio G'zOne Phone (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
I was in the market for looking for new phones for my boyfriend and I. And, after looking at the description for the Verizon G'zOne, I thought I would give this phone a shot. I dedided on this phone, because my boyfriend has broken every single phone that he is previously owned. I've been using this phone for several months, and I have to say that it is the best phone that I've every owned. One of the reason that I really like the phone is because of how big the screen & buttons are and how comfortable it is to hold. After using this phone, it makes other phones look like toy phones that children play with for fun. I look at other peoples' phones and they seem absolutely tiny compared to mine. My boyfriend was thrilled with this phone and immediately started testing its capabilities by accidently dropping it everywhere. Not a scratch in sight on his phone. If we were talking about cars, it would be the Hummer of all phones. But, seriously, his friends really liked the phone as well. One of his friends goes hiking a lot and commented on how a phone like his would really be useful in the great outdoors. His grandfather liked the phone because of how the buttons are a good size and not tiny like other phones. I know that there is an upgrade to this phone, but I don't know how a phone like this could get any better. I might to stick to this model the next time we need to renew our contract. Well, anyhow, this is really a great phone and would make a great gift for dads.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strongest phone ever, if you want simply and actually working this is it, May 25, 2007
This review is from: Casio G'zOne Phone (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
I've been pushing the limits on mine (I know I shouldn't but its just too tempting). It's survived many swims in the pool (down to 12') kayaking, rock climbing, a game of catch between our third story balcony and the parking lot (we don't always catch) being spiked onto a downtown sidewalk (fun to watch others look over) my dog playing with it, and even an accidental dropping out of my pocket while riding my motorcycle at about 45 mph. I don't really care about bluetooth or music so this is simply fantastic. I wish it did have analog for some country spots but oh well
