This review is from: Casio Men's PAG80T-7V Pathfinder Altimeter/Barometer/ Digital Compass Solar Digital Watch (Watch)
This was purchased as a gift for a good friend. We both prefer fairly sizable timepieces, so its size had no bearing on our selection. This was intended, by me, as more of a high end "gimmick gift", rather than to be used to scale Mount Everest. However, we have found numerous and legitimate uses for this type of product. I own a Suunto "Observer", priced about $100 more, and can find no overt differences between the two. As a matter of fact, the edge may go to Casio because of the solar power. Both require that you remove them from your wrist for 10 minutes to get an accurate outdoor temperature reading. This seemed to be one of the common complaints about this device. That same very phenomenon is also clearly stated in a Suunto manual, Suunto considered to be much higher end and definitely more expensive. The Suunto and Casio manual also clearly states that the device is not to be used for flying, parachuting, or other potentially life-threatening situations that require extreme precision. We have found that both the Casio and Suunto are quite impressive, and in an emergency could possibly, repeat possibly, be used for the above activities (flying, would require an unpressurized cabin). It will certainly be an asset for the day hiker. I have seen a Suunto model on the wrist of a climber who had climbed Mount Everest (magazine picture). Is it worth the price? I think that all depends on what you want it for. We use these instruments for outdoor photography. Having an extremely accurate compass on your wrist really helps when estimating the position of the sun, the time, and other ancillary functions complete the package. I have found my Suunto, and my friend his Casio (this model), to be well worth the investment.

casio pathfinder watch,
This review is from: Casio Men's PAG80T-7V Pathfinder Altimeter/Barometer/ Digital Compass Solar Digital Watch (Watch)
The altimeter does not function correctly, but the compass seems to do well, and the alarms can not be heard. The barameter reads true to local weather stations, and the solar powered battery charger seems to keep the battery at full charge.

This watch stands out in price/performance terms in this category. I replaced a 5-year old similar Casio model that was all plastic and required a battery. (When you are deep in the mountains batteries are a nuisance.)
With solar power the watch is always ready for action. It even conserves power when it sits overnight by turning off the display. All the functions work as documented. One minor feature that is surprisingly useful to me is the time zone change function based on city location. It's much faster and easier to switch as you move around the world. With a titanium band I expect this one to last at least 5 years. Although the watch is large and noticeable it is very lightweight. Expect to get labeled as a bit of a geek if you wear this watch as a day to day timepiece. It's information over style although the looks work for me.

I actually returned this. It's a really nice watch, but it's bigger than it looks on-line. Make sure it fits you OK before you order.

Best solar watch (with titanium band and the other features) you can have for the money,
This watch have a very solid construction, is almost imposible to make a scratch to the crystal, endless power (the solar feature), the thermometer and the compass are very accurate, but the altimeter have some range of error. 2 freinds mine have purchase this watch after i show them my Casio.

I have had Pathfinder watches for the last twelve years and they perform (everyday life, work, hiking, fishing, camping, hunting)to the excellent standards that Casio has set. The only problem I have had is that the batteries have gone out while I am in the middle of hiking. With the solar power this shouldn't happen. I have gotten many compliments on the appearance and I have given it high performance ratings on it's ability to guide me while hiking and hunting. The extra money for the solar power is worth it. I highly recommend this watch.

My boyfriend LOVES this watch!,

I purchased this watch as a Valentine's Day gift for my boyfriend and he LOVES IT! If your guy is a gadget-loving dude, you can't go wrong with this watch. The only thing you need to watch out for is the hourly weather reports he recites, the direction of the compass, how far above sea level you are, etc.
As for looks, it's very sporty and has a high wrist profile, but is very lightweight due to the titanium band. The band ran a little large, but this was easily remedied with a quick trip to the jeweler to have a couple of links removed. Yes, this watch has a lot of bells and whistles, but use your head and common sense when it comes to the measurements. If you're flying a plane, use the aircraft's altimeter rather than the watch's for specific numbers, and so on. Enjoy!

I love the watch, and just wanted to provide this review specifically for the watch band. The pins have these little retainer sleeves, which are very tiny metal sleeves that slide over the pins and help to keep them secured in the band. The person I asked to adjust it had never seen them and struggled to figure it out.(given it was at a department store, not a true jeweler that carries the Pathfinder watches). We didn't even notice those little retainers were there until the newly installed pins started falling right out. I did not find any instructions in the manual, but the watch band does have tiny arrows on the bottom side, which I can only guess is to help with pin insertion. Advice: take it to a retailer that sells the watch, or make sure you do it over a piece of fabric or something where tiny pieces can't get away.
