Product Description

Stay one step ahead of Mother Nature with the Solar Powered PRW3000, incorporating Casio's Triple Sensor Version 3 engine. Advanced CASIO original technology has allowed for a 95% smaller direction sensor and 90% reduction in sensor power consumption compared to previous models. Despite their smaller size, the new sensors in this model delivers better accuracy and energy efficiency. This model can measure Altitude in 1m increments (previously 5m) and display compass readings with 60-seconds of continuous measurement (previously 20 seconds). In addition to the altimeter and digital compass, the watch's Barometer, incorporates a unique Barometric Pressure Tendency Alarm that alerts the wearer to sudden changes in pressure readings. Design features include a compact, sleek case and soft urethane band for a better fit to the wrist. One-touch access to digital compass, barometric pressure/altitude, and temperature readings keep important information at your fingertips. Other features include Multi-Band 6 Atomic Timekeeping, 100-meter water resistance, and more. Everything about these models is designed and engineered to make them essential pieces of outdoor gear. Black resin band digital with black face.

With the launch of its first watch in November 1974, Casio entered the wristwatch market at a time when the watch industry had just discovered digital technology. As a company with cutting-edge electronic technology developed for pocket calculators, Casio entered this field confident that it could develop timepieces that would lead the market.

Today, Casio is focusing its efforts on solar-powered radio-controlled watches: the built-in solar battery eliminates the nuisance of replacing batteries, atomic timekeeping means the users never have to reset the time. Recently, Casio launched a series of Bluetooth watches that sync to the users cell phone to automatically update the time. Casio is always moving time forward.

I picked this watch up as a replacement for a beloved and well-worn Pathfinder that is no longer manufactured. That Pathfinder survived several years of hard, dedicated use, in a very austere and rugged setting, and it was finally defeated. Had it been repairable I would have had it fixed.
I begrudgingly began looking for a replacement. Since that iteration of the Pathfinder series I was pleasantly surprised to find that the new generation are battery-free and solar powered. As I had left my previous profession I was not in need of such a large, "masculine" design but as a recreational outdoorsman, wanted to have the features of an ABC watch, the robustness of the Pathfinder design, a water-proof case, and Casio's dependability. I was also interested in GPS watches and finally, had been eyeing the subdued features of "military"-style design.
I spent some time looking at Suunto GPS watches, and the new Garmin Tactix. From both the reviews I've read and reports I was getting from people using these products, the Garmin looked to be the better product but for my purposes it was overkill with a pretty big price tag. I already wear a Foretrex in the field and have been eyeing a Garmin Colorado or Montana so laying out 500 bones on another GPS device seemed excessive. I also loved the idea of not having to deal with batteries. Ever.
I settled on picking up another Pathfinder/Protech and then settled on this model for its low profile, light weight, solar charging and atomic timekeeping.
Pro's: Lightweight and streamlined. Unlike my old Pathfinder I don't even realize I have this one on half the time. It is also streamlined. Does not catch on clothing or gear like my old Pathfinder did.

I was hesitant to buy this model with the negative display because of many negative reviews. I'm glad I did though because I have zero issues with the watch or its negative display, its always clear and easy to view for me. This watch is a great value, it has the features of the models that are twice its price, while being much more compact than other/older models.

I wanted a watch that had a negative LCD, atomic, solar powered, that also had compass, altimeter, and barometer. This had everything I wanted rolled into one great package. I just received the watch today and it looks and feels great. It's nowhere near as bulky and heavy as my previous pathfinder PAW-1100 watch, and it still has all the functionality of it. The negative LCD looks great and the illumination backlight looks awesome! It's no longer a turquoise color but more of a darker blue now. The display is easy to read and best of all, the functionality is pretty much similar to any of Casio's pathfinder/protrek watches. So for those of you who have previously owned an ABC watch, this functions and sets up just the same way. Since I just got it today, I don't know how well it's going to hold up to wear and tear, but I'll find out soon since this is going to be my everyday watch.

Oh and don't be mislead by the "Blue" in the title/product description. The watch is all black. The seller Dip n Dive is awesome as well. I was suppose to get the watch on Monday, but got it Saturday, a whole 2 days earlier!

Out of the box impression, is wow it is so much smaller than my prw2500 and pat 2000. Still don't know if I'm going to keep it, it's so hard to rap my head around the size decrease. The negative display isn't hard to read at all as other reviewers have stated. There just seems to be something missing about this watch. My other watches look and feel more rugged than the 3000, the material quality is better on pervious models. The strap is smaller as well. I feel like casio left out a couple of things material wise.

What's not to like? As an ABC watch, it has all the features I've grown accustomed to in a watch/ sensing device. There are times when I need to now if the barometric pressure is dropping, which way is North, etc.. I've been a user of these watches for over 19 years, this is my third Casio ABC watch, two previous instruments were of the Pathfinder series. The first I broke due to a 120vac electric shock, the case bonded to AC outlet terminals (!), and the next the case mounting point for lower band was crushed when a heavy door was closed on my wrist (saved my wrist-bones or so I believe).

This time around, I wanted the negative display, which I think is very cool and not the norm, sometimes more a bit more difficult to see, but I like it very much. The back-light is effective and useful in low-light conditions. I am surprised more people don't comment on the display type, but then I guess I'm a watch nerd. I particularly like the 1-meter accuracy for altimeter and the quick response (compared to Pathfinder series) of the sensors. The sunrise/ sunset mode is quite useful and convenient. The size is slightly smaller than my Pathfinder Titanium and this watch is very lightweight.

Overall, I'm quite happy with this watch and know we will be long-time friends..

This has replaced my old banged up G-Shock. I really wish I would've ordered this watch sooner. I really love this watch. Best G-Shock ever.

1 - The size is small. This is not your typical G-Shock. It tucks under your sleeve and doesn't take an entire wrist to mount. I have small wrists and this G fits them wonderfully. Better yet, it's a triple sensor watch - those should never be this small.
2 - Simple band. I hate the chunky bands that come on G-Shocks, typically. This one is small, tapers down, and is smooth. It really wears nicely and for once I won't have to trim it with a razor blade.
3 - Button protectors. The bottom of the buttons has a "sleeve" that prevents accidental triggering of the button. Neat idea.
4 - Great looking. The simplified time display with just the essential info (time and date) are a refreshing change from the gizmo clutter that G-Shocks are so typical for. Glance at your watch and BAM! You know what time it is. No swimming your glance through layers of ticking dots, whirling spirals and blinking lights. Just the time.
5 - Accurate. The atomic calibrated time is great, but even the ABC function seem to match every other resource I compare too. Oddly, I found that I love the sunup/sundown function. I thought I'd never use it.

1 - The negative display. Not impossible to the point of being un-buyable. It's dimmer than my previous G-Shock Negative Display, though. My old G-Shock allowed contrast adjustment of the negative and this one does not, so you get what you get. I end up tilting the watch a bit, and using the back light more than my old watch. NOT a deal-breaker, just dimmer.
2 - The button protectors. They don't work as designed.
