2.0 out of 5 stars Not that good as compared Palm Pilot of same category
The manual is confusing and GARBAGE! (1) Can't match the manual description and Sync software and what you see on PV-200 and Serial cable adaptor. For example, the manual does not describe sync procedure clearly. On the PV-200 no option for Sync. On software there is option for Sync between casio and pc. (2) No clear (matching) procedure described to send, receive,...

I spent the last month researching PDAs. The Casio PV-200 is a great value! If you want or need e-mail function, this product is NOT for you. However, for keeping track of your appointments, business/personal contacts, this item is great. I've read some of the negative comments...they must be referring to the PV-100 model. Be sure to purchase the PV-200A (with the silver colored screen protector). The on-screen key pad makes entries very easy. It defaults to capitalize the first word of each sentence and "remembers" frequent words you've entered. So, after you type "Bir" the word "Birthday" will appear--simply tap the word and save time. One touch shows your next scheduled appointment. It has a daily alarm, reminder alarms, etc. This is a great product for the money. I do not use the PC Sync function, so I cannot comment on it. This product is advertised on the internet anywhere from $99.99 to $149.99.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Starter PDA, July 4, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Casio PV-200 Pocket Viewer PC Companion (Office Product)
The Casio Cassiopeia PV-200e model is a wonderful machine that will keep an unorganized techie in-sync with their home or office PC while on the road. The PV-200e features all the PV-200 model advantages except the backlit display and desktop cradle. The serial cable sync operation is one-touch and will update information on both the Casio and home or office computer's operating systems. The included software is easy to use and free downloadable software makes the unit compatible with Microsoft Outlook 2000 and before. One exceptional feature that the PV-200e has is the clarity of the on-screen writing in the Quick-Memo function. In short, Casio provides a lot of power in their PV-200e!

For example, the manual does not describe sync procedure clearly. On the PV-200 no option for Sync. On software there is option for Sync between casio and pc. (2) No clear (matching) procedure described to send, receive, sync data between PV-200 and PC. The procedure does not clearly tell which button to press from where PV-200 screen or serial port or pc? (3) The adrress book is not compatible to excel or oher standard software for address. Or the procedure is not described. (4) Sometimes the Data-Sync works and sometimes does not. (5) Illuminator auto shut-off time cant be selected, it is fixed. (6) No direct icon for calculator. To use calculator three steps of key operations are required ! (7) Manual does not reflect what is seen on PV-200 screen (8) Search operation is case sensitive. If you are looking for stored data under name Kevin, and if you search for kevin, you get "item not found" mesage.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best functionallity for the price, October 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Casio PV-200 Pocket Viewer PC Companion (Office Product)
My sister and I both have gone with the Casios. We shopped around but could not find anything that offered ease of use, functionality and an economic price all in one package. Other hand held organizers will do more: i.e.-color or e-mail but they tend to cost much more. Also, you do not need to learn a new method of writing. You can input the information through the keyboard function, via your computer or use the scratch pad for quick notes.

I constantly use the scheduling and the contact functions. And the greatest part about it is that you can download to your pc just in case the batteries go down. (Or your 4-year old steps on it!) I have to admit that the games and the scratch pad keep the kids quiet when they are bored.

We now use the PV-200 to keep organized in both or businesses and our personal lives. We would be lost without it!

Details: The battery life seems to quite nice: between 1-2 months. I have had my PV-100 (the earlier model without backlighting) for about a year now. It seems to be holding up well. The cover is pretty banged up but it has had a lot of use. The pc software is ok for a scheduler but clunky if you are used to something like ACT. My sister's PV-200 is holding up well. The cradle and software will work for both units.

4.0 out of 5 stars one-stop shopping for this sort of aparatus, but a bit slow, September 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Casio PV-200 Pocket Viewer PC Companion (Office Product)
It indeed seems to have all the requisite bells and whistles. It was advertised to interface with MS Outlook, but I learned that you have to download a special program for that. It is slow switching from one file to another, and you have to fuss a lot with the stylus, etc.

4.0 out of 5 stars almost the best buy, September 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Casio PV-200 Pocket Viewer PC Companion (Office Product)
For a poor college student this is the best buy. i have used mine for a couple months now and have found few problems. the interface is pathetically easy to understand. my one problem with it is that the yearly reminder option does not supply the option for an automatic repitition ie. birthdays and holidays. i would think that the manufacturer would have included such an option since the idea of a pda is to store that type of info. but overall it is a great buy.

The Casio PV-200 is a fantastic way to organize your whole life within a small package. I have combined my personal calendar and address book with my professional planner and rolodex in the tiny palm viewer that easily fits in my purse or pocket. I love it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Can't syncronize, October 21, 1999
This review is from: Casio PV-200 Pocket Viewer PC Companion (Office Product)
It seems to be a reasonable buy but it has serious drawbacks: - hard to move from one screen to the other, - hard to search for something, - almost impossible to syncronize with the PC
