2.0 out of 5 stars A difference of opinion
I just purchased the above phone for my parents. I did so based on the excellent reviews from others that appear above. I must admit, I was sceptical in doing so, since I own a Casio/Phonemate product which I am unhappy with. My skeptism was justified. The display on the phone is barely readable, just like mine. When my mother used the phone for the first time, she said...

With four phones and a fax machine in my home, I certainly was trying to get by with what I had. I bought this phone for my home office as my other phones were just your basic ringers.

I did a LOT of feature shopping, and this had everything I wanted...and a lot I never knew I wanted until now... A speakerphone for those wonderful calls to tech support that give you a bruised ear, a big caller id screen to avoid that special family member, a hold button that lets you go to another phone on the other end of the house without having to scream until someone finally hangs up the other line, an autodial feature for even faster pizza -- which also works with caller id as a personal phone book so I can put my rolodex in the closet, a blocking feature for those loveable telemarketers, a remote system to call in for messages, a digital answering system that sounds very clear which also eliminates tape getting eaten, several volume selections for each element of sound so your neighbor does not have to hear who you did last night when they call to leave a message the next day about how good you were with your tongue, two recorded greetings for "leave me alone i'm busy" and "i'm not here blah blah blah".... OK I'LL STOP... but heck, for 50 bucks, this is an amazing little 8" wide unit. (no, sadly, that is not the message that was left on my new machine this morning--it's the actual size of the phone)

I must add that this is extremely easy to setup and use. Do NOT get scared about all it's features! It sounds overwhelming, but the only thing you do is set the clock (oh yeah, it has a clock.. and it talks to you) and enter your friends names and numbers if you want to know who is calling (oh yeah, it also has call screening!)

You think I like this phone?

I must admit, I was sceptical in doing so, since I own a Casio/Phonemate product which I am unhappy with. My skeptism was justified. The display on the phone is barely readable, just like mine. When my mother used the phone for the first time, she said it sounded echo-ee. I have a Phonemate cordless phone which is about 7 years old. It was excellent. However, when Casio merged with Phonemate, quality went down the tubes. There is no doubt the phone has many nice features, but does a poor job with the basics such as sound quality and display. Stay away from this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Three strikes, November 26, 2000

I was quite pleased when I first got this phone, as it is very easy to program--something I was able to do without reading the instructions. It has decent sound. But: 1.No battery back-up. If power goes out for even a second you lose your message (there is a computer voice that takes over until you re-record) 2.Doesn't turn off greeting if you pick up another phone in the house 3.Will not selectively delete message--it's all or none.

4.0 out of 5 stars OVERALL, A GREAT PHONE AND VALUE!, August 23, 2000

Overall, a great phone and value! The phone is very sturdy/durable and has almost all the features I was looking for. It also works and looks great! The only feature I was missing was a MUTE button. No big deal though. The only other complaint I have is the power outlet cord comes out fairly easy , and if it does your most likely to get disconnected! Those are the only problems I could find and are not big at all! A great second phone!

3.0 out of 5 stars many negative points, June 21, 2001

If I would know before ordering that: 1. The receiver has sever echo when you are talking 2.That it gives annoying soundes during dialing 3.That answering machine does not stop when you picking up parallel phone. 4.That automatic dialing is inconvenient I would not buy this phone. But I have it now and will use it.

4.0 out of 5 stars great features and easy to use, July 12, 2000

the only reason i'm not giving it five stars is because the lcd display is not backlit, forcing me to turn a light on to read the caller id. other than that this phone seems to have every other feature i was looking for and the ease of use is geat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Machine For The Money!, July 12, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Casio Phonemate TI345 Phone and Answering Machine (Office Product)
This phone/answering machine system is a terrific value for the money we paid for it. It has all the features we used to require three different machines for. My only complaint is that it's hard to delete a message immediately after recieving it. Still.....a great value for the buck!

I bought two of these phones for my parents (for main phone and a home office phone). The great thing about the phone is that it has a digital VM and Caller ID in one phone. It also can be set to have the VM pick up on the first ring when a telemarketer calls (and blocks their number). The VM is annoying because, like was already mentioned, if the power goes out, your greeting is erased. Two other annoying things, you have to listen to the whole message before erasing it and the VM doesn't shut off when you pick up the handset. I'd buy another one if it meant I didn't have to look for a better one.

4.0 out of 5 stars nifty phone but BAD SOUND, February 24, 2001

Cool machine! Nice rotary button A loudspeaker helps a lot compared to my previous phone so when Pac Bell (or other institution) puts me on a long wait I can do other things in my house. There was only one headache: On a recent trip to Paris I was remotely reading messages and suddenly erased all messages OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I just found recently how to do it: press * (BACK) OR # (NEXT) It's wonderful that I discovered that. I will rate it 4 and not 5 because the numeric sound quality is poor (just make a greeting interlaced with some music, you can hardly tell the music. Old tape machines had better sound) Is any engineer reading this?: Can I take the machine appart and install a better chip with more megabytes? E.S.
