In developing its own wristwatches Casio began with the basic question, ""What is a wristwatch?"" Rather than simply making a digital version of the conventional mechanical watch, we thought that the ideal wristwatch should be something that shows all facets of time in a consistent way. Based on this, Casio was able to create a watch that displayed the precise time including the second, minute, hour, day, and month — not to mention a.m. or p.m., and the day of the week. It was the first watch in the world with a digital automatic calendar function that eliminated the need to reset the calendar due the variation in month length. Rather than using a conventional watch face and hands, a digital liquid crystal display was adopted to better show all the information. This culminated in the 1974 launch of the CASIOTRON, the world’s first digital watch with automatic calendar. The CASIOTRON won acclaim as a groundbreaking product that represented a complete departure from the conventional wristwatch.
Casio transformed the concept of the watch — from a mere timepiece to an information device for the wrist — and undertook product planning based on this innovative idea. We developed not only time functions such as global time zone watches, but also other radical new functions using Casio’s own digital technology, including calculator and dictionary functions, as well as a phonebook feature based on memory technology, and even a thermometer function using a built-in sensor. The memory-function watches became our DATA BANK product series, while the sensor watches developed into two unique Casio product lines of today: the Pathfinder series displaying altitude, atmospheric pressure, and compass readings.
In 1983, Casio launched the shock-resistant G-SHOCK watch. This product shattered the notion that a watch is a fragile piece of jewelry that needs to be handled with care, and was the result of Casio engineers taking on the challenge of creating the world’s toughest watch. Using a triple-protection design for the parts, module, and case, the G-SHOCK offered a radical new type of watch that was unaffected by strong impacts or shaking. Its practicality was immediately recognized, and its unique look, which embodied its functionality, became wildly popular, resulting in explosive sales in the early 1990s. The G-SHOCK soon adopted various new sensors, solar-powered radio-controlled technology (described below), and new materials for even better durability. By always employing the latest technology, and continuing to transcend conventional thinking about the watch, the G-SHOCK brand has become Casio’s flagship timepiece product.
Today, Casio is focusing its efforts on solar-powered radio-controlled watches: the built-in solar battery eliminates the nuisance of replacing batteries, and the radio-controlled function means users never have to reset the time. In particular, the radio-controlled function represents a revolution in time-keeping technology similar to the impact created when mechanical watches gave way to quartz technology. Through the further development of high radio-wave sensitivity, miniaturization, and improved energy efficiency, Casio continues to produce a whole range of radio-controlled models.

Perfect display, miserable to set/adjust,

This review is from: Casio Snooze Daily Alarm Travel Clock (Watch)
I've had this travel clock for almost 10 years. I like the display a lot. The display is not lit (in other words, you can't read it in the dark) unless you push the blue button in the upper right hand corner. It does not illuminate a dark room unless you want to check the time. The back light is just right in that it doesn't blind you when you check it in the dark. It takes a soft touch to activate the back light. Just brush it with a finger. The numerals are big enough to read without glasses, and the back light turns off automatically after a few seconds. It seems very durable, and mine has been bounced off the floor many, many times. The battery cover is not very secure, flying off with the battery when it hits the floor after a clumsy attenpt to check the time in the dark. This is a problem because the clock will then need to be reset (see below). I lost the batter cover after knocking the clock on the floor in a hotel. I would advise, should this happen to you, to serch until you find the cover. Tape will work to hold the battery in place without the cover, but you will miss the battery cover. In fact, if I had it to do over, I'd securely tape the battery cover in place.
Unfortunately, the set controils are extremely difficult to use due to tiny size. If you have less than perfect vision, you might not be able to see the time/alarm set markings without a magnifier. I use this little clock by my bedside at home, and I take it eveywhere I go. It has taken a lot of abuse, but with the exception of the lost battery cover, this little clock seems as good as new. It uses one standard AA battery which I've only replaced once or twice in ten years. Even though it is painfully difficult to set and adjust, I have not found a better replacement. I'd buy another if this one were to be lost.

Great As Long As You Can Find It In The Dark,

This review is from: Casio Snooze Daily Alarm Travel Clock (Watch)
A very Casio kind of clock. Durable, dependable, well designed, compact, inexpensive, with a no-nonsense emphasis on function. Make sure to keep a small flashlight near the clock if you want to find it in a dark room. It emits no illumination. Go ahead, confirm the time, hit the snooze button. But keep your glasses nearby so you can find the tiny button to kill the demanding alarm tone. No question, it's time to wake up when this jewel goes off.

The controls on this travel alarm clock are not only teensy, they are poorly marked : even in broad daylight, one cannot read the settings for the switches for on/off/snooze, etc.
The silver paint on a black matte plastic finish just does not "show up" at all. The paint is much dimmer than the photo of the product on the Amazon page shows.
