Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Make a powerful statement with the Casio WVA430SGA-9A1V Waveceptor men's men's digital/analog atomic watch, which receives time calibration radio signals which keep the displayed time accurate. It's also solar-powered--charging in either sunlight or indoor light--so you'll never have to deal with changing the battery. It has a shiny gray hue bezel that frames a smoky grey dial, which is accented by silver-tone bar markers. Other features include a two-tone stainless steel band, luminous hands (with second hand), five alarms, dual time zones, auto LED backlight, and water resistance to 100 meters (330 feet).

The Casio Story

With the launch of its first watch in November 1974, Casio entered the wristwatch market at a time when the watch industry had just discovered digital technology. As a company with cutting-edge electronic technology developed for pocket calculators, Casio entered this field confident that it could develop timepieces that would lead the market.

In developing its own wristwatches Casio began with the basic question, ""What is a wristwatch?"" Rather than simply making a digital version of the conventional mechanical watch, we thought that the ideal wristwatch should be something that shows all facets of time in a consistent way. Based on this, Casio was able to create a watch that displayed the precise time including the second, minute, hour, day, and month — not to mention a.m. or p.m., and the day of the week. It was the first watch in the world with a digital automatic calendar function that eliminated the need to reset the calendar due the variation in month length. Rather than using a conventional watch face and hands, a digital liquid crystal display was adopted to better show all the information. This culminated in the 1974 launch of the CASIOTRON, the world’s first digital watch with automatic calendar. The CASIOTRON won acclaim as a groundbreaking product that represented a complete departure from the conventional wristwatch.

Casio transformed the concept of the watch — from a mere timepiece to an information device for the wrist — and undertook product planning based on this innovative idea. We developed not only time functions such as global time zone watches, but also other radical new functions using Casio’s own digital technology, including calculator and dictionary functions, as well as a phonebook feature based on memory technology, and even a thermometer function using a built-in sensor. The memory-function watches became our DATA BANK product series, while the sensor watches developed into two unique Casio product lines of today: the Pathfinder series displaying altitude, atmospheric pressure, and compass readings.

In 1983, Casio launched the shock-resistant G-SHOCK watch. This product shattered the notion that a watch is a fragile piece of jewelry that needs to be handled with care, and was the result of Casio engineers taking on the challenge of creating the world’s toughest watch. Using a triple-protection design for the parts, module, and case, the G-SHOCK offered a radical new type of watch that was unaffected by strong impacts or shaking. Its practicality was immediately recognized, and its unique look, which embodied its functionality, became wildly popular, resulting in explosive sales in the early 1990s. The G-SHOCK soon adopted various new sensors, solar-powered radio-controlled technology (described below), and new materials for even better durability. By always employing the latest technology, and continuing to transcend conventional thinking about the watch, the G-SHOCK brand has become Casio’s flagship timepiece product.

Today, Casio is focusing its efforts on solar-powered radio-controlled watches: the built-in solar battery eliminates the nuisance of replacing batteries, and the radio-controlled function means users never have to reset the time. In particular, the radio-controlled function represents a revolution in time-keeping technology similar to the impact created when mechanical watches gave way to quartz technology. Through the further development of high radio-wave sensitivity, miniaturization, and improved energy efficiency, Casio continues to produce a whole range of radio-controlled models.

4.0 out of 5 stars How to resize the band...., May 28, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Casio Men's VA430SGA-9A1V Waveceptor Solar Atomic Watch (Watch)
Everything others have said is true and it is really BIG. To resize the band take a tack, place it against the smooth end of the pin (other end has a line where the two sides meet), tap the tack and the pin will move out the other side. It is best to place the band over something with a slot to enable the pin going out the other side.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most accurate watch I have ever had, January 20, 2006
By
This review is from: Casio Men's VA430SGA-9A1V Waveceptor Solar Atomic Watch (Watch)
I bought this watch because:

1. it uses light as a source of power;
2. it can synchronize with the atomic clock in Colorado automatically using radio wave;
3. it was on sale here for $63.5 shipped around 2005 X'mas. (I did have to pay ~$8 to have the watch band adjusted locally.)

I am completely satisfied with this watch so far. It was so accurate that I can tell whether my PC's clock is off.

It sync'ed with the atomic clock every night (I am in NJ), not a miss so far.

It's a bit thick, but the build quality is well worth the money I paid for.

Highly recommended (I recommended it to my brother already :-).

3.0 out of 5 stars nice watch with wrong band, July 24, 2006
This review is from: Casio Men's VA430SGA-9A1V Waveceptor Solar Atomic Watch (Watch)
OK, LET ME SAY FIRST SOME NICE THING ABOUT THIS WATCH, IT HAS EVERYTHING THAT I WANTED IN A WATCH(YOU CAN READ ALL THE DESCRIPTION ON AMAZON). IT IS LIGHT ON MY WRIST, UNLIKE MY LAST WATCH SEIKO WHICH IT BOTHERED MY WRIST IF I HAD IT ON ALL DAY, THE REASON I WOULD GIVE 3 STARS RATHER THAN 5 IS MAINLY THE WRIST BAND, IT LOOKS LIKE IT IS MADE COMPLETELY OUT OF METAL, BUT I WAS MISTAKEN, PART OF IT NEAR THE ACTUAL WATCH IS MADE OUT OF PLASTIC. SO IF YOU HIT YOUR WATCH ON A SHARP OBJECT , LIKE I DID BY ACCIDENT THE PAINT CAME OFF OF IT AND THE PLASTIC COLOR UNDER IT LOOKS LIKE BLUISH, GREEN SHOWED UP , NOW WHAT CAN YOU DO NOW, IT DOES NOT LOOK PRETTY WITH PART LOOKS LIKE METAL AND PART SCRATCHED WITH BLUE COLOR ON IT, I CALLED CASIO AND SAID THIS WATCH IS UNDER WARRENTY IS THERE ANY WAY TO FIX IT . THEIR REPLY WAS THAT PART IS PART OF THE WRIST BAND AND IT IS NOT COVERED BY THE WARRENTY. ALSO IT CAN NOT TAKEN OUT AND REPLACED. SO IF YOU WANT A NICE WATCH FOR JUST SPECIAL OCCASION THIS WATCH IS FINE JUST BE CAREFUL NOT TO HIT ANYTHING SHARP
