Why you should buy this watch:

1) Lightweight: You'll forget your wearing it.

2) Thin: Most of the thin watches I see are designed for girls. I can confirm that wearing this watch will not lose your manliness.

3) Simple: If you want more, glue a smartphone to your wrist. Then repeatedly bang your head on it.

4) Quality: It's Casio (okay okay Gshock is awful, but lets pretend that was an accident).

5) Looks: Retro classic professional nerdy sporty all in one. I personally feel like I belong to a special club when I wear this.

PS - Looking back at my old and awful writing was painful so I got rid of it but kept the essentials.

I've been wearing this watch since high school (over 15 years ago). I bought it for track so I could pace my practices. I can't find any watch out there that has the countdown feature that repeats, so I can set it to ding at me every 3 minutes or 2 hours or whatever. I love the digital - it's easy to read in a pinch. And I'm not really aware of time, so the hourly alarm really helps me keep track. I do agree that it is not the most attractive watch - especially for a female, but I just can't get enough of this light-weight, easy to use watch. I've had probably 5 of this exact watch. I lost my last two and I've worn out the rest. I try to wear other watches.. analog, silver, gold... that are more fashionable, but I just can't break away from this watch. I was heartbroken when Target stopped selling it, and elated when I found it on the web. I'm excited to know it's a 20 year old design... that way I can be confident that it will be around for a while. If not, I'd buy 50 more so I could make sure I always had one! That's how much I LOVE this watch... I just ordered it off this site after being without it for a year (did I mention Target?) and I cannot wait for it to arrive!! I should have bought 2...

I've used this model for past 10+ years. I don't remember when I first used this one, but the last one I had finally died after about 10 years, earlier this spring. So, I bought another one, exactly same model. I don't remember whether I had this model or another cheaper model before the previous one.

But the previous one went with me from the cold winters of Chicago to the sizzling summers of Iraq where temperature was well over 140+ degrees (I know this b/c others with Suunto watch with thermometer told me). Used it when I was swimming, kayaking, running, biking, etc. etc. I remember changing the battery at least once and changed the strap 2 or 3 times.

So, when the last one died in April of 2005, I went out and bought another one. This one should last another 10 years. What more can you ask for for $20?

I really like this watch. It's very comfortable. It is light and thin. It is the only watch I've had in recent memory that I don't take off when I work.

If you want to try to impress people with your cool watch, look elsewhere. If you want a nice watch for yourself, look at this watch or a similar one.

Yes, it has a light so you can check the time when it is dark.

By the way, this design is more than 20 years old. When you set the year, you can set it as far back as 1985.

The watch has all functions I need. Alarm countdown, stop watch. It is simple and light weight. I can wear it to do all kind of sports.

This is the most functional watch I know for anyone with good eyesight (and particularly at the price). It's not that the numbers are particularly small; they're not. It's just that the nightlight doesn't cast much illumination on the watchface. For people with good eyesight, I'd unhesitatingly rate this watch a 5. For those with older eyes, I'd downgrade it to a 3, unless you don't have need of its light, in which case it'd get the 5 rating.

Its features include a good countdown alarm, a stopwatch, two different time displays (for those doing a lot of inter-time-zone travelling), and a regular alarm.

I really like this model of watch. I have been wearing this model for probably ten years or so. I regularly use the alarm, countdown timer, and stopwatch functions. They are easy to get to and intuitive to use. I like being able to see the day of the week, month, day of the month, hours, minutes, and seconds without pushing a button. I find the backlight barely bright enough, but seldom have a need for it. I used to use the alarms more than I do now and had one or two units fail after the warranty period with the speaker stuck in a position that quickly drains the battery. They're so inexpensive, I just bought the same model again, rather than try to learn how another one works. Since it's water resistant, it's nice to be able to just wash the whole watch and plastic band occasionally.

I used to buy G-shock Casio(because of a rough job), but they were too big for me. I like this Casio digital W71-1V better. I like that it has the Day of the week, etc. Example: SU 6-30. Some Casio's don't have all three. I like the light also. I have been buying Casio black watches like these for over 20 years and I will always buy this type of watch. The battery lasts years for me, but if you use the light and alarm alot, battery life might be different. The design has not changed and I love this classic design.

I bought my Casio Module 549 now known as Casio W17-1V on 08/30/1997 13:48:18. It is still doing its job perfectly around my wrist today, 12/11/2010.

I see there is none of all the terrific, remarkable features of Casio W17-1V that has not already been written. But I have one outstandingly different experience which accidentally reveals CASIO MODULE 549 IS INCREDIBLY TOUGH!

One normal day more than a year ago I was out in the field and had to use the countdown timer. The C button got stuck depressed. The watch emmitted pulsed beeps continuously and got almost burning hot. The beeping faded and stopped. I knew some circuit had shorted which fully discharged the battery. The watch went dead.

Since the watch was over 12 years old I thought it was time I bought a new one. After immediately doing some maintenance on the buttons, I decided to buy a new battery instead. I went to my favorite jeweller and had the battery replaced without explaining why. That was the third battery replacement for this watch. The good ol' watch came back to life!

My Casio Module 549 is still around my wrist after about 14 years now, doing its job perfectly. With proper care and maintenance technics which I have discovered, I am sure it will last indefinitely. But this is not all!

Just recently I broke the pinholder on the plastic case of the watch. The wristband would not fasten to the case with a broken pinholder and I thought it was irrepairable. So I ordered a brand new Casio W17-1V here at Amazon.com. Meanwhile, I repaired the pinholder. It worked! My order was delivered only yesterday. Now I have two Casio Modules: One 14 years old around my wrist and one brand new on its display saddle. TERRIFIC PRODUCTS!

I bought this watch as an alternate watch to use for hiking, swimming, snowboarding, basically to exercise in all forms without worrying about damaging it. I normally have a leather/steel Kenneth Cole watch for daily use; but, I find myself wearing this watch more often because of how comfortable and light it is. I take it to work because I am always typing and using my hands (pharmacy tech), and the low weight makes it very comfortable and unobtrusive. I was concerned it would be too large, because I'm fairly skinny with small wrists, but it is not big/heavy at all. I hardly notice it's there! Normally, I come home and take off my watch, but when I wear this one I hardly notice and I like to keep it on because I am so used to wearing something on my wrist. The light is similar to what others have said, it's pretty dim and weak; although, good enough for when I jog around the neighborhood at night under the streetlights. The stop watch is useful for exercising, and the countdown timer is also useful. I highly recommend this product, and I would definitely buy this product again.
