Moon phase is out a bit... otherwise good,
By
This review is from: Casio Men's W753D-1AV Moon Phase Tide Graph Sport Watch (Watch)
Good watch and easy as to set up if you read the manual (can get it online). The moon age is out by a day constantly though (which effects the tide graph), and it doesn't look like you can adjust this (it calculates from your 'home site data' and date) other than fiddling with GMT time or lunitidal interval values... which isn't ideal and probably isn't accurate either. Apart from that it's a pretty cool watch... just wish it was more accurate with the tides coz I use it for water sports. 5 alarms is good (I struggle to get up sometimes ;), auto light is handy at times. Tide graph is hard to erad when it's low tide coz the display is little. Case isn't all stainless steel either, it's plastic where the band pins join to the case which is a bummer coz it won't be as strong.

This is a lot of watch for the price! It is attractive and strudy. The band appears to be stainless steel(is marked stainless steel on the buckle part). I bought this for my husband to replace a tide watch that wore out. He is an electronics guru, but still had difficulty setting the tide segment with the provided instructions. He also wishes the tide display was larger. Now that the watch is set and he has been wearing it, he likes it very much and was shocked when I told him how little it cost. Since he uses it on our boat, we will find out whether or not the entire band is stainless.

Cant beat for the $$,
This review is from: Casio Men's W753D-1AV Moon Phase Tide Graph Sport Watch (Watch)
Does as advertised. Good looking watch that is pretty durable for the $$. Tide functions are fairly accurate. Fairly comfortable for daily wear. Sharpish edges where the band meets the crown-but not dangerous. Had a similar Casio Tide watch last year-beat on it fishing, swimming, and working in the yard. I wore it for over a year-now my 4-tear old has it...still works.

Great value for money yachting watch,
By I decided I wanted a decent-sized yachting watch with the tide shown on it as I thought it would be handy for sailing. I looked around and discovered there are huge differences in prices for watches and as I couldn't justify spending much, after some study I ended up choosing the Casio Sea Pathfinder. Now I don't know much about brands but I do know that Casio isn't a cool brand but, hey, getting this much watch for less than twenty pounds, I couldn't complain. The Amazon price was significantly cheaper than prices in the various chandlery mail order catalogues (now there's a surprise!). Please note there is a blue strap version (the one I chose) and black strap or silver strap versions which I think are the same watch (at least the same innards) but slightly different visually. So, what's the watch like? Firstly, I'm a woman (albeit a large one!) and some men's watches look ridiculous. This one is fine, it's got a large face but not enormously so and a curved glass top so it feels smooth. There are four large buttons, two either side, which are easy to press. The main display (usually the time) is easy to see and very clear, the tidal and lunar displays less so, although you get used to reading the watch face. There are a number of different modes including time, dual time (i.e. two different time zones), moon (how many days into the moon), 5 alarms, stopwatch and countdown timer. Interestingly I've found myself using the countdown timer when cooking (rather than a normal cooking pinger) because it's very easy to set. In fact all of the options on the watch are easy to set - once you've found out your lunitudinal interval. This mystery number helps the watch know the tidal states but the little instruction book that comes with the watch only gives general lunitudinal interval locations, such as 'London'. Armed with a set of tide tables and the watch, I discovered that London is significantly different to Eastbourne (Sovereign Harbour) tidal times. The thing I hadn't realised before buying this watch is that you can dial in the date and time and it will tell you the tide at that point, it doesn't just tell you the tide right now, so I was able to check the calculations up till December this year. Eventually, after some googling, I found a table of lunitudinal intervals along the South Coast of England. It didn't include Eastbourne but did have some other locations and, with a little trial and error, I managed to find the best lunitudinal interval which meant my watch tides agreed mostly with the Tide Table tides. And so far the tidal display seems reasonably accurate - it's nowhere near good enough to use for sailing planning but is a helpful quick check when you're thinking about walking on the beach (will the dog be able to play in the rock pools or will they be covered up?) and for general interest. Being a digital watch it does have the unfortunate problem that when wearing polarising sunglasses (as I do when sailing) it's hard to make out the LCD display, but this is also true for the log, depth display, radar etc on the boat and isn't the fault of the watchmaker, just something to bear in mind. Battery life is supposedly 10 years but most people will be bored with the watch by then and have moved onto the next one. The light lights up the face in the dark (what more do you need), the beeps for the alarms are loud enough to wake me, the watch overall seems perfectly adequate and it looks good. I think if I'd paid fifty pound I would have been very happy, for less than twenty it's a complete bargain. Go for it!

The watch is alittle hard to program at first. But after I read the direction about tree time its pretty easy. The watch is excellent. Nice looking for everyday wear.

I am an avid kayaker and ocean fisherman, so I depend on a solid, bulletproof, waterproof watch that will give me the tide/moon relatively accurately. In sum:
You simply can't beat a Casio. For years I owned the plastic versions of this watch, which after 24/7 use, would tend to wear out the bands or otherwise show use. This is the stainless version and it simply won't wear out. You will read of people who have trouble adjusting the tide/moon. Not at all, it's simple. The manual will give you settings for the nearest large city. Keep in mind that your local conditions will vary - there are a number of online tide time resources where you can get your local conditions. Then simply adjust the lead time + or - (in small increments) until the watch times match your local conditions. Very simple and quite accurate enough. Has all of the usual Casio functions. You can wear this watch 24/7, shower with it, dive with it, the stainless just won't wear out. Battery change is not difficult. In sum, ignore the negatives you may read here - these are the people who can't set up their digital TV properly. Enjoy! Great product, amazing price...

Amazing for the price!,
This review is from: Casio Men's W753D-1AV Moon Phase Tide Graph Sport Watch (Watch)
This is without a doubt one of the best watches I have ever had!
As other reviews say, it's a lot of watch for the price. It's a little tricky to set up if you don't know what your doing, so just read the instructions & follow them step-by-step, and it's easy. The band is a bit big, but links can be taken out, or put back in to adjust the size, so no big deal there. The Tide & Moon (even Sun angle) features are pretty handy, & great if your doing anything such as a sailing trip, to a hike in the woods. It came in the mail SO much faster than I had anticipated, and arrived in perfect condition. I highly recomend this watch to anyone that needs an everyday/outdoor watch. 5 Stars!

This is a great watch. If someone is looking for a watch with multiple options and moon phases etc then this is a watch to look at. Furthermore, for those that do not like heavy watches and feel that they weigh down their arms this is also a great watch. It is very light and you barely feel it when you have it on, which is why I am glad it has a waterproof feature since it has gone in the shower with me on several occasions. ;-)

Good watch, but mine may be a bit lemony...,

I've had this watch for a couple of years. It keeps perfect time (within a second/month or so). It's very easy to read, displays time and date (and day for those times when I forget), and easy to set the time and date. Every now and then I look, and instead of the time, it's displaying moon or tide; it's a little sensitive, I guess.
However, the main problem is that it sometimes gets dim, and I can tap it a couple of times to get it back. And twice, it went totally blank, and I had to take off the back, and reset it. After that happened, I gave up setting anything but the time and date, which is all I really care about anyway. I have no idea what the problem is, but for under $25, it's still a good buy, and not worth trying to get it fixed. Update: The connector for the band broke after about 3 years, and could not be fixed; it's made of plastic, and is a bit weak at the point of connection. One other thing that was annoying... the display is too easily reset, so that it often is not displaying the time when I look at it, and needs to be reset to time display. This is a bad design, and makes me not want to buy another one.

Love the watch except ...,

I love this watch, buy I haven't been able to get it synch'd to the salt water creek near my home.
Now that you know I love the watch, let me tell you some drawbacks. Unless you are familiar with the tide cycles, which I am not, you may have a hard time configuring this watch for your area. The instructions booklet has an extremely small font, about 4 point type. I'm not fond of the bracelet-type band, but could not find a stretch band to match this style. My jeweler was able to fit the band to my wrist, so I am getting used to this type band. Why do I love it, well for the price it is very well made and functions very well. The time settings are easier to change than some similar and more expensive watches that I've had. And the tide graph is just cool. |
