Take this innovative watch with you for days at the pool or days on the run, where you'll always find a use for it.

The Casio Story

With the launch of its first watch in November 1974, Casio entered the wristwatch market at a time when the watch industry had just discovered digital technology. As a company with cutting-edge electronic technology developed for pocket calculators, Casio entered this field confident that it could develop timepieces that would lead the market.

In developing its own wristwatches Casio began with the basic question, ""What is a wristwatch?"" Rather than simply making a digital version of the conventional mechanical watch, we thought that the ideal wristwatch should be something that shows all facets of time in a consistent way. Based on this, Casio was able to create a watch that displayed the precise time including the second, minute, hour, day, and month — not to mention a.m. or p.m., and the day of the week. It was the first watch in the world with a digital automatic calendar function that eliminated the need to reset the calendar due the variation in month length. Rather than using a conventional watch face and hands, a digital liquid crystal display was adopted to better show all the information. This culminated in the 1974 launch of the CASIOTRON, the world’s first digital watch with automatic calendar. The CASIOTRON won acclaim as a groundbreaking product that represented a complete departure from the conventional wristwatch.

Casio transformed the concept of the watch — from a mere timepiece to an information device for the wrist — and undertook product planning based on this innovative idea. We developed not only time functions such as global time zone watches, but also other radical new functions using Casio’s own digital technology, including calculator and dictionary functions, as well as a phonebook feature based on memory technology, and even a thermometer function using a built-in sensor. The memory-function watches became our DATA BANK product series, while the sensor watches developed into two unique Casio product lines of today: the Pathfinder series displaying altitude, atmospheric pressure, and compass readings.

In 1983, Casio launched the shock-resistant G-SHOCK watch. This product shattered the notion that a watch is a fragile piece of jewelry that needs to be handled with care, and was the result of Casio engineers taking on the challenge of creating the world’s toughest watch. Using a triple-protection design for the parts, module, and case, the G-SHOCK offered a radical new type of watch that was unaffected by strong impacts or shaking. Its practicality was immediately recognized, and its unique look, which embodied its functionality, became wildly popular, resulting in explosive sales in the early 1990s. The G-SHOCK soon adopted various new sensors, solar-powered radio-controlled technology (described below), and new materials for even better durability. By always employing the latest technology, and continuing to transcend conventional thinking about the watch, the G-SHOCK brand has become Casio’s flagship timepiece product.

Today, Casio is focusing its efforts on solar-powered radio-controlled watches: the built-in solar battery eliminates the nuisance of replacing batteries, and the radio-controlled function means users never have to reset the time. In particular, the radio-controlled function represents a revolution in time-keeping technology similar to the impact created when mechanical watches gave way to quartz technology. Through the further development of high radio-wave sensitivity, miniaturization, and improved energy efficiency, Casio continues to produce a whole range of radio-controlled models.

2.0 out of 5 stars Clear band quickly turns an ugly brown, November 29, 2010
This review is from: Casio Women's BG169R-7B Baby-G Clear Whale Digital Sport Watch (Watch)
I have had this watch for about one year. I love the features of the Baby-G.

However, I have the clear watch band, and it has turned an icky brown color. This happened relatively quickly: maybe after 4-6 months.

At first I thought it was from gardening while wearing the watch, but I think it is from UV light.

The brown tint is throughout the band and also throughout the jelly that surrounds the dial. It looks awful.

I recommend getting a different color. I am considering the solid colors for my next watch, but will want to get from a store that guarantees the watch, no questions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Fasion AND Function!!, November 8, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Casio Women's BG169R-7B Baby-G Clear Whale Digital Sport Watch (Watch)
I got this watch today in the mail and right out of the box I LOVED it! It is a white face with a clear overlay, a clear band, and a white buckle. There is also a stainless steel type ring around the face. It is VERY cute and I was not disappointed in the style. I can wear it with anything.
Out of the box it was set for EST with the correct day. It has instructions so you can change the time based on your time zone and you can also select whether or not it is Daylight Savings Time (DST.) The DST is a great function because you won't have to reset your watch during DST, just press a button and the watch will compensate +/- 1 hour.
There is also the day counter function. This function allows you set a day in the future, for me, since I am currently deployed, would be the day I return from Iraq. You could also use it to set the days until your vacation or a special occasion. It will count down the days you have left until that date. You can set up to 5 special dates.
There is also a World Clock. There are 29 time zones and you can pick the one that best suits your needs. For example, my children are on EST while I'm in Iraq, so I just set the World Clock to NYC Time Zone (East Coast) and I know exactly what time it is when I call there. While it doesn't take much to figure out the time difference, the watch having the exact time is more convenient. There is also an alarm, stopwatch, and a countdown timer that can be set for 1 minute up to 24 hours. There is also the option of a mute button for the operational functions. For example, generally when you push the 'mode' button on a watch to get from the time to say the stopwatch, the watch beeps; you can put that on mute. You will no longer hear a beep when you're scrolling through modes. The alarm, hourly beep, and countdown timer all still function normally.
The last thing is a data bank. You can store up to 25 records, each with a name and phone number. I'm still not sure what to do with this, seeing as most people have cell phones these days. I guess of you forget your cell phone and you need to write down a number you could just put the name and number in your watch.
As far as construction goes, I obviously haven't had this particular watch that long, but from what I understand G-Shocks are basically indestructible. I also know someone who has the same watch battery since 1996. He hasn't had to replace the battery in 13 years!
I am looking forward to a long life with this watch. The only downfall may be that I have heard the clear band may yellow with prolonged exposure to the sun and water. I would recommend this watch to anyone!

3.0 out of 5 stars Casio Women's Baby G Clear watch, October 28, 2010
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Casio Women's BG169R-7B Baby-G Clear Whale Digital Sport Watch (Watch)
As a mother of three, I wanted a watch to help me keep up with my busy day. The Casio Baby G has all the features I was looking for - several alarms (5), stopwatch, and countdown timer - plus a few others that I'll probably rarely use, like the Data Bank. I used the Data Bank one day for a phone number I needed just once - it was fiddly to program, but served its purpose. I don't always remember to charge my cell phone, so it could come in handy, but I think I'd be more inclined to use the pen and paper I carry in my purse. The World Time mode is set and I'll check it occasionally when I need to make an international call. I found the Day Counter mode completely unhelpful - when it reaches your target date, a teeny indicator in the top right of the watch face flashes. Since other indicators there are also in use, the flashing is hardly noticeable. I think a beep/alarm would be more helpful.

I bought the watch mostly for the digital features. I chose the clear face and band because it's more neutral. What surprised me was the size of the watch. I had a digital watch when I was a kid that had a good few features (stopwatch etc.) and was at least half the size - and I thought digital technology had come along since then! Perhaps the size is because of the waterproofing? Waterproofing is handy since I have my hands in water often during the day, but the bulkiness of the watch is not worth it - I take the watch off as soon as I come in the house because I can't stand to wear it a minute longer! It's not just the size - the "resin" band (fancy name for plastic?) is horribly uncomfortable. They recommend that you wear the band loosely enough so that you can insert a finger under it, but even so the watch is uncomfortable - the watch face slides to the outside of my arm, and on a hot day it sticks to me every so often. I've adjusted the band repeatedly trying to find a comfortable spot (still keeping a minimum one finger spacing) but it's just not there. Perhaps at 6 1/2" my wrist is just the wrong size for this watch? I've had the watch three weeks, but since it's plastic, I don't know if regular wear is going to make it any more comfortable. I may have to investigate other band options.
