Quartz movement ensures reliability.

The Casio Story

With the launch of its first watch in November 1974, Casio entered the wristwatch market at a time when the watch industry had just discovered digital technology. As a company with cutting-edge electronic technology developed for pocket calculators, Casio entered this field confident that it could develop timepieces that would lead the market.

In developing its own wristwatches Casio began with the basic question, ""What is a wristwatch?"" Rather than simply making a digital version of the conventional mechanical watch, we thought that the ideal wristwatch should be something that shows all facets of time in a consistent way. Based on this, Casio was able to create a watch that displayed the precise time including the second, minute, hour, day, and month — not to mention a.m. or p.m., and the day of the week. It was the first watch in the world with a digital automatic calendar function that eliminated the need to reset the calendar due the variation in month length. Rather than using a conventional watch face and hands, a digital liquid crystal display was adopted to better show all the information. This culminated in the 1974 launch of the CASIOTRON, the world’s first digital watch with automatic calendar. The CASIOTRON won acclaim as a groundbreaking product that represented a complete departure from the conventional wristwatch.

Casio transformed the concept of the watch — from a mere timepiece to an information device for the wrist — and undertook product planning based on this innovative idea. We developed not only time functions such as global time zone watches, but also other radical new functions using Casio’s own digital technology, including calculator and dictionary functions, as well as a phonebook feature based on memory technology, and even a thermometer function using a built-in sensor. The memory-function watches became our DATA BANK product series, while the sensor watches developed into two unique Casio product lines of today: the Pathfinder series displaying altitude, atmospheric pressure, and compass readings.

In 1983, Casio launched the shock-resistant G-SHOCK watch. This product shattered the notion that a watch is a fragile piece of jewelry that needs to be handled with care, and was the result of Casio engineers taking on the challenge of creating the world’s toughest watch. Using a triple-protection design for the parts, module, and case, the G-SHOCK offered a radical new type of watch that was unaffected by strong impacts or shaking. Its practicality was immediately recognized, and its unique look, which embodied its functionality, became wildly popular, resulting in explosive sales in the early 1990s. The G-SHOCK soon adopted various new sensors, solar-powered radio-controlled technology (described below), and new materials for even better durability. By always employing the latest technology, and continuing to transcend conventional thinking about the watch, the G-SHOCK brand has become Casio’s flagship timepiece product.

Today, Casio is focusing its efforts on solar-powered radio-controlled watches: the built-in solar battery eliminates the nuisance of replacing batteries, and the radio-controlled function means users never have to reset the time. In particular, the radio-controlled function represents a revolution in time-keeping technology similar to the impact created when mechanical watches gave way to quartz technology. Through the further development of high radio-wave sensitivity, miniaturization, and improved energy efficiency, Casio continues to produce a whole range of radio-controlled models.

5.0 out of 5 stars Baby-G Slim Marine, April 18, 2009
This review is from: Casio Women's BG3000-8 Baby-G Slim Marine Watch (Watch)
I've been wearing G-Shocks since 1982. I've never had one let me down. The biggest problem I've had is having to get the battery changed or having them so long that the case rots off, but that can be replaced as well. I currently have two. One is Tough Solar and the other is Atomic Solar. I ordered this Baby-G for my girlfriend's birthday and she loves it. There are only a couple of Baby-G models that are Atomic or Solar and they're pretty much black or white. Since she didn't like those colors, she picked this battery operated model. As soon as other Solar Atomic Baby-G models become available, I would prefer to get her something that doesn't require a battery change. Other than that, I'm sure this one won't let her down, and it has all the same great features as my G-Shocks in a much smaller, slimmer package.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great watch for moms, September 3, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Casio Women's BG3000-8 Baby-G Slim Marine Watch (Watch)
I purchased the Casio Baby G because I have three kids under the age of five and I was tired of losing track of time during playdates, overstaying, and paying the price through melt-downs. I had looked at several Casio watches for women, but decided on this grey one b/c it has FIVE alarms.

I love this watch. The watch displays the day, date, hour, minute, and second on the main face. Not only does it have the five alarms, it also has a mode where I can have it beep every hour on the hour. (This function can also be turned off.) It has a 3 second light up, that's great for the nights when I'm stuck in my baby's room trying to get her to sleep. It has different time zones, so once you set the watch, if your travel has you cross timezones, you merely select the proper time zone and it switches for you, without having to reset the time. You also have the option of turning daylight savings time on and off.

The watch is waterproof and I swim with it regularly. It also has a stop watch function, which I use daily for keeping track of how many minutes I've exercised. It also has a count down function that ends in an alarm. I use that for time outs and when I am cooking.

I am a very petite person with very slim wrists (5.5 inches around my wrist). I did not feel that the watch was too heavy or that it looked crazy big on me. It has a sporty look to it, which I like for everyday. Not a dinner party, dress up watch, but hopefully then, the kids will be with the sitter so I won't need the five alarms anyway. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Lasts Forever!, March 22, 2009

Sunshine (Honolulu, HI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Casio Women's BG3000-8 Baby-G Slim Marine Watch (Watch)
I have this watch in the red color. I've had it for awhile and I love it! The watch does not stick out as much as the other Baby-G ones. This one is flat and feels comfortable. The strap on my watch is shorter than the normal length and fits great!! I wear this watch every day and it's worth the price! My 12-year old daughter also has one in the shiny black and she just loves it! Thanks, Casio for making products that can keep up with us active people!
