4.0 out of 5 stars Casio Women's LCF30-1B Solar Watch
I purchased this item on March 11, 2011 and have encountered only one problem with the watch: sizing. People with large wrists will have to make sure this watch size is suitable before purchasing. The length of the watch is 9 inches. I have an 8-inch wrist and can only use the last hole on the watch wristband. There are 10 holes in the wristband, which is rubberized...

3.0 out of 5 stars Solar cell doesn't last long enough

It's a big watch for what is typically associated with women, but I'm an outdoorsy-type and find the size to be just right since it's still smaller than the typical men's sports watch. The second day I had this watch it informed me, by turning off at a rather inopportune moment, that it was low on power. In winter, sunlight for charging is a commodity, so now I simply take the watch off and let it charge under the bathroom lights while I'm showering in the morning. Since I've been doing this, no battery failure has occurred. The directions say that about 5 minutes of direct sunlight will charge the watch for a day, and that seems about right to me. I'm sure powering the watch will be a non-issue come summer.

UPDATE: After having the watch for a few weeks now, it has shut down 3 or 4 times due to low cell power.

Cons: There are too many unnecessary functions for time-zones, etc. I just want a single display that gives both the digital time and date in one window without fuss. This watch is either or. Unless you're accustomed to changing time zones on a daily basis, two functions will probably mean nothing to you: "DT" and "HS." Another unnecessary function is the alarm. While it's certainly thoughtful, I can't imagine a time or a place now where alarms aren't taken care of by cell phones. If you are somewhere where a cell phone won't work, an alarm is probably not your first concern. I'd rather have some sort of lap counter, for running.

UPDATE: The glass face is also prone to scratching -- it sits "high" on the watch, with no protective raised cover around it (as in most other sports watches. This watch now has more face scratches on it than other watches that I've had for years.

Pros: The stopwatch is better than my Timex Ironman in that you don't need to hold down a button to reset -- just tap. Additionally, the watch lights up when it's dark and you turn it toward you, and the hands glow bright green after a nice light-charge. Solar power. Analog and digital at once: the analog could be useful for assessing compass directions (which you can't do with a digital-only piece), and the digital is always useful if you want to be exact.

There are 10 holes in the wristband, which is rubberized. Wearing the watch is comfortable. Setting up the watch was not hard. It took me 10 minutes. The watch keeps both analog and digital time simultaneously on the face, but you have to set them two different ways, which is explained in the provided manual. To keep my watch powered, I have been placing it in front of my television. Easy way to keep it charged! You can also charge it using direct sunlight, which provides a faster charge. The illumination light is neon green on the analog clock hands and amber on the digital clock. When you move your wrist upward to see the watch, the amber illuminator automatically comes on. You can program the date to show in the digital panel and there is an alarm setting. Stopwatch setting also available. The watch is listed on the back as "Water Resistant 5 BAR". This means it's suitable up to 5 bar (equivalent to 165 feet, 5 ATM or 50 meters) for everyday use and swimming BUT not for poolside diving, snorkeling or water sports. Also note most water-resistant watches are not designed for prolonged active use in water.

1.0 out of 5 stars Analog Display Always Remains 3 and 4 Minutes Behind Digital Display, December 21, 2009

This review is from: Casio Women's LCF30-1B Tough Solar Ana-Digi Sport Watch (Watch)
Bought this watch for a middle school kid. Worked fine for a week, then the analog display started lagging off and didn't keep the same time as the digital display like it should. Also the crystal scratches up easily, where it is difficult to read the display. Overall lousy performance for a watch that sells for $40.00.

Bought this watch about 2 weeks ago and it is just perfect! The only thing I did to it was change out the band for a band with a compass in it and added a deployment clasp. Now it is truly perfect! The band it came with was a little short for my larger wrist and the one that I found to replace it was slightly larger and just had the compass in it. I really don't need the compass but it gives it a classy look that I like. I love the deployment clasp because my watches tend to unbuckle and I lose them. With the deployment clasp this does not happen. It works like the bracelet bands you see on other watches. The watch works perfectly just like described. I have not had any problems with it not having enough charge and I have been indoors for quite awhile recovering from surgery. Like others have stated there are features that I do not use but I am not upset that they are there. It is a great watch at a really great price and I am very happy with my purchase. All my watches get scratched up so I am planning on investing in some glass scratch cleaner for that purpose. Usually I buy cheap watches and throw them away when they get too banged up. I don't want to do that now with this watch. Yes it was a great price but it definitely is not a "throw-away" watch! It deserves to be taken care of and I should have many years of good service from it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars great watch for boy!, February 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Casio Women's LCF30-1B Tough Solar Ana-Digi Sport Watch (Watch)
I have to say this model with black color and large dial , it's less flattering for a female. however I found great use by giving it to my boy and let me learn how to read analog time and match up the digital time.

it's a little tricky with the "HS"-hand setting mode though. when you analog time remain certain amount of difference from the digital time you should go back to HS mode to adjust the analog time to match the digital time and then go back to regular time setting mode to set them both to the correct time. such incident is mostly due to accidental button bumping under HS mode as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Casio Watch, January 30, 2011

I like the watch, but it isn't easy to set up all the other features. I wanted a watch with a sweep hand, but this one was just as hard to set than a digital.

It isn't fancy, but then when I'm under water, who cares. It works and the price was right.

This watch arrived in perfect condition. It takes a little time to set the watch to the settings you want but aterwards the watch is virtually indestructible! I have taken it skiing, hiking, during my morning walks everyday and I find that this watch is worn over my two other watches, one being a Movado. I love the "glow in the dark" feature! Great watch for a bargain price!

Everything about this watch is perfect for my needs. I teach elementary school. In my job, it's very easy to break a watch. With this watch, I can bang it and it doesn't break. It stays charged without any effort on my part. It displays both digital and analog time on the dial, which is a really good tool for teaching children how to tell time. It's stylish, too. I LOVE IT!
