Pretty Good Speaker,

This is a nice little battery powered speaker. 4 C-cell batteries give it enough power, and it is louder than most other battery powered speakers that work with MP3 players. The quality of the audio is not bad, however it is not as good as the smaller battery powered speakers with less power. If you need high quality audio more than you need a loud speaker, then this is not the best speaker for you. If you need something loud, then this is perfect.
This thing looks a lot like a lantern when the handle is upright and it's sitting on it's rubber base. This speaker can double as an interesting conversation starter when you're not using it as a speaker. Also note that this thing is made in China. Of course, when it comes to electronics like this, then good luck finding something that's not made in China.

I'm using these for wildlife work, calling owls.
Pro: The company has great customer service. Con: It could be a tad louder. (But it is loud enough.)

I bought one for coyote hunting in Eastern Washington state. It comes with 75 feet of wire but I bought an additional 75 feet from Radio Shack because I wanted more flexibility in configuring my stands. I use a garden variety MP3 player with it using sounds downloaded from internet hunting sites and some which I purchased on DVDs from Ebay.
It's easy to carry and set up because the wire wraps around the unit. There is a convenient fold-out hook on the handle that allows you to hang it up which increases the range significantly. As long as you remember to turn it off after each setup, the batteries will last at least a year. Total cost for the speaker, wire and MP3 player was under $75. So far I've called in three coyotes that I've seen and shot one. It is certainly loud enough, especially if you get it two or three feet off the ground. I'm very happy with my purchase. |
