5.0 out of 5 stars Review of Cassandra Reed's album, July 23, 2003

This review is from: Cassandra Reed (Audio CD)
Cassandra Reed's self-titled debut album encompasses the soft, sultry sounds of contemporary jazz intertwined with moving lyrics that directly speak from her real life experiences with love, heartache, and independence. The album, itself, contains an eclectic range of themes that is reinforced by the soothing, soulful quality in Reed's voice. Listeners will, undoubtedly, feel the rhythmic nature in the album's twelve song compilation. Moreover, the ease at which one can identify with her poignant words will undeniably have an effect on anyone's listening experience. From her struggles of prejudice to a realization of a lost love, her words express great passion and emotion. Her first single, "The Next Time," delivers a melodic, acoustic-driven sound which is worthy of any R&B fan, but beyond that, her words and music have an appeal to a universal audience. The inspiration felt within Cassandra Reed's album is, in essence, a reflection of an individual who holds nothing but talent and originality.

I heard "The Color of Love" in a West Coast Swing class last week - and had to have this CD! What a great song to dance to - and, if you're into WCS, you know the dancers always sing along with the music. I've been singing "Color" all weekend and I'm ready to dance!

5.0 out of 5 stars A New Star, September 15, 2003

This is a very fresh and emotional CD. The songs that Cassandra sings are with so much feeling that they grab you and don't let go. This woman has a fantastic voice and the stories that she tells reflect alot on the trials and tribulations of love.
Only Human is my favorite song, with Crusin and The Color of Love right behind it. The Next Time sounds like a hit single and Home
with You is a perfect ending to this wonderfull CD. With all of the generic cookie cutter Cd's out there and every other singer trying to be Diana Krall or Norah Jones, Cassandra Reed will hopefully rise to the top of the pack. With this superb CD she deserves it

I saw Cassandra Reed perform last week in NYC. She was nothing short of spectacular. Very comfortable on stage with great presence. Her voice is truly amazing with great range.I just got this CD and it is just wonderful. The material is outstanding with a very original production. She is accompanied by great musicians and Wallace Roney(trumpet) on Color of Love adds a Miles Davis kind of tone to a very cool song."Lonely" is an extremely moving song. Her version of Man in the Mirror rivals the original by Michael Jackson. My favorite song is "Cruisin". It just gives you a great feeling.I highly reccomend this CD and I hope that this is the first of many CD's by Cassandra.

I recently heard this CD from a friend in the music business. He was raving about the talent that this woman has. Well he is right. This is a great CD. Her voice is fresh and soulfull and the songs are excellent. The musicianship on the Cd is also first class as some of the best players in NY show their talents on this CD.From the opening vocal on "Only Human" right through to the end of "Home with You" Cassandra grabs you and doesn't let you go/ "Lonely" is an amazing song with an amazing vocal.I hope that this is the first of many CD's by Cassandra. This CD has made me a fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice soulful debut from this Gypsy from Seville, August 21, 2003
By
This review is from: Cassandra Reed (Audio CD)
Its no accident that Cassandra Reed's debut blends jazzy vocals with a soulful groove that will make you want to find yourself a scotch and a cigarette (and on many tracks someone to share them with!). Like her mixed heritage (Reed was born of Gypsy blood in Seville, Spain) this debut combines styles a la Nora Jones effortlessly. Cassandra's voice is a little less sultry than Norah's and her band is a little more soul and funk, but comparisons are inevitable. On certain songsI wished her voice was a bit bigger and more powerful, but some songs like the opener "Only Human" will really have you grooving. Overall a solid release from a young singer who can only get better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Whoa., August 26, 2003

Excellent. Better jazz than Norah Jones, but still a little pop-ish. I haven't bought the CD (yet), but check out the free download "Only Human" and others on mp3.com ("Cruisin'" and "The Next Time"). Cassandra has great vocal range and the songs are definitely catchy. Kudos to the writers/arrangers as well.
