4.0 out of 5 stars Casting down a Texan assault
Imagine the feeling you would have it you actually lived out the experience inferred by the Pissing Razors name. Reflecting on the brutality of the idea and experiencing the musical plague they attempt to cast down on their sophomore release could certainly make the image a reality. Imagine the feeling you would have it you actually lived out the experience inferred by the Pissing Razors name. Reflecting on the brutality of the idea and experiencing the musical plague they attempt to cast down on their sophomore release could certainly make the image a reality. Following in the path of fellow Texan thrash-mongers, Pantera, the Pissing Razors brand of riff-laden metal is straight forward and grinding with a guttural punch equal to the weight of an 80,000 pound semi barreling at you with no brakes. There is no escaping the guitar driven assault and pummeling double bass onslaught that the Razors entail. Cast Down the Plague continues the spellbinding concepts established by the quartet on their self-titled debut while allowing them the room to experiment with backwards rhythms and vocal dynamics a bit. The riffs are tight, with the venomous bite of a desert rattler, yet contain just enough melody in-and-of themselves to render them memorable.

Overall the music and sound are nothing groundbreaking alone, but combine with the energy of the band's personality, offers fist-in-the-air fury and ground stomping mosh action that is rarely felt in metal these days. Pissing Razors are the definitive throwback to the 80's thrash era with a 90's version of noise production and angst to drawn in the dedication of the next generation of adrenaline-pumped fans. Blasting ears with brutal double-time passages that drop definitively into near clean vocal choruses or defining, near metal-core breakdown passages, the Razors build upon everything that ever made American thrash internationally dominate while still experimenting with the now splintered "metal" sound. Cast down your notion that this is just another uni-dimensional thrash band hailing under the six flags of Texas and embrace the powerful brutality that is the Pissing Razors before you contract the plague that will make their name a reality in your world.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too similar to their debut offering to make any waves., August 2, 1999

Pissing Razors impressed the Metal World with their debut and felt they had to put it out again. I love their sound so I did give it 3 stars and it does have some high points. If you have never heard this band I recommend this CD, if you have the first and really, really love it get this CD, if you have their first and aren't a huge fan of that; stay away from Cast Down the Plague. this band is a couple of steps away from being on the 'metal map'

You can take the length of this review as a sign of me being lazy, but there really isn't much to say. I can sum up everything you need to know about this album in three words: average Pantera clone.

5.0 out of 5 stars BONECRUSHING HEAVY BRILLIANCE, February 8, 2002
This review is from: Cast Down the Plague (Audio CD)
Pissing Razors are the closest sound to Pantera, without copying. Probabaly the heaviest guitar sound. At least on par with Dimebag and Zakk Wylde. The predominant vocals almost steal the show but overall this is a must have album for any self proclaimed metal head. With neck snappers like 'Truth in disguise' and 'Reality of war', you can't go wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good!, December 6, 2001
By
This review is from: Cast Down the Plague (Audio CD)
This CD is far better than their self-titled release. This is very heavy. It's good to listen to when you are angry. The album's peaks are "Mass Corruption" and "Cast Down The Plague". I would reccomend this CD to anybody who likes Pantera or Fear Factory.

5.0 out of 5 stars Your ears will bleed..., March 17, 2001

...and that's a good thing!

Pissing Razors delivers a worthy follow up to their debut self-titled album. It somehow manages to take the unrelenting hardness of their previous release and make it more melodic and more addictive. You can clearly see how much they smoothed over all of the rough edges from their first CD and became much more coordinated in their aural assault against America. I personally love the faster, more complicated track "Box Life", the lighter, yet somehow still brutal "Away", and the song that reminisces of Pissing Razors, the album, "Mass Corruption", which opens the CD picking up where the last CD left off.

3.0 out of 5 stars NOT AS GOOD AS THEIR FIRST ALBUM!!!, May 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Cast Down the Plague (Audio CD)
This album is a good album. But it is not as good as their first album. The songs on this album begin to sound the same after a while, almost sounds like the same guitar sound in every song. I'm a little disappointed, but this is still a pretty good album to get.
