Cast Iron Round Umbrella Stand - Verdi Gras

This umbrella stand is great based on the fact that it is made of cast iron. That is particularily important here in Colorado where we can have very strong winds. However, it was not painted with a rust resistant finish. I have only had the stand outside two weeks and it has already rusted on the one side that the rain has blown on it. I now have to re-paint it with a tougher finish. I find this inconvenient, yet not worth the trouble to return it.

After receiving this item, I placed it under my dining table - which is also covered with a canvas table cover unless the table is in use. After a mere short 5 weeks of being outside, I noticed that the item was starting to rust. I was told by the seller that because I live "close to the ocean" that this will happen and will continue to happen. That's "great" since the item was specifically ordered because it stated it was "weather resistant". If additional care should have bee taken with this product before placing in my backyard, if feel some type of addtional instructions should have been included with this product. Now I'm being told to go over it with a wire brush. Perfect idea! Let's remove more of the paint so the cast iron is even more exposed. Before long I won't have an umbrella base left to worry about as the rust will have eaten the entire base away. I will NEVER order from this very customer unfriendly company again. They were the most unhelpful company I think I've ever had to deal with.

Recieved item sooner than the estimated date. Nice weight. Very attractive and can be easily painted if green is not your color.

I purchased another umbrella stand over a year ago, and even though this should be identical, it is not--less sturdy. However, it seems it will do the job.

While the deal was terrific (umbrella and stand for a great price), the stand's plastic handle was broken. Make sure you check for condition as soon as your merchandise arrives! The stand is still functional and the broken handle (used to secure the umbrella pole in the stand) isn't visible unless you look under the table.
