I'm quite happy with this product, I've not been using this with a cast iron teapot, but with a ceramic one. One of the better features, which isn't articulated on the product description, is that the inside is flat on the bottom, without a proper holder for the candles, which allows for multiple candles to be used at the same time. I'll usually only use two, but four fit in there easily.

This item comes in three pieces. The warmer, the grate, and a kettle support. The last piece is not in the picture.

The kettle support is to be put inside the warmer with the circle at the bottom and the three pillars at the top. You might wonder why it is necessary. The reason is the warmer is not supposed to be used with the grate on top of it (more about it later). A tea light is to be put in the middle of the circle.

The grate is better set aside to be used as a cast iron coaster because if you put it on top of the warmer, it will make the kettle base too far from the heat that comes from the tea light at the bottom, and you would end up wondering if you need multiple candles to the tea warm. And you will also lose heat through the side holes of the grate. (Please see the pictures I uploaded.) Using the grate is only necessary to be used on top of the warmer when you need a flat surface for certain flat-base kettles.

Without the grate on the warmer, the round kettle base can nest down a little bit into the warmer and keep the heat from being wasted. If your kettle is small, the kettle support pillars will keep it supported, keeping a reasonable distance from the tea light (now you know what the kettle support is for). In this position I can keep the tea at the perfect sipping temperature.

I've also tried this warmer with Sterno canned heat, but it keeps the tea too hot to drink. If you want to keep the tea very hot, you can use a Sterno can with the grate on the warmer.

One star is deducted for having no instruction for how to use the warmer and the functions of the pieces. I had to figure that out from experience. Hope this helps! Again, please check out my uploaded picture for visual illustration.

Had been checking several different tea stores online and could not find the larger teapot warmer that I needed. Then I checked Amazon and there it was. I have some larger teapots and this one is perfect. It has easy access to the tealight candle if I need to change it. The grate is nice and flat to sit the teapot on and allows enough heat to keep the tea hot. Last cup is as hot as the first. esay to clean and store, not bulky. It truly is perfect.

Bought this to go with my 28 oz Phoenix Teas 28 Fl Oz Cast Iron Blessing Teapot, Blue. At first I thought it may be a little bigger than I needed for this size teapot but, I actually like having more suface to place the pot on. Also this warmer has a removable top which allows you to place the teapot a little closer to the tealight. the removable grated top can actually double as a trivet. So YEAH! I really like it.

I was just reading "What was I thinking" review and sounds like they thought the tealight was supposed to heat up a cold pot. This warmer is used to maintain the heat. I heat my teapot w hot water first - then dump it just before adding the hot water and tea. Then you maintain the heat w the tealight/warmer.

I had been looking for a large enough warmer that could support my large tetsubin (cast iron) tea pot, as well as accommodating occasional use for a ceramic pot, and this works very well for both. The price was right, and I was pleasantly surprised to find one here on Amazon.com that I was even able to have shipped free along with a few other items.

My positive comments echo many of the other reviewers of this item, and I summarize the benefits here:
1. This cast iron warmer is sturdy and can hold a wide range of teapots as the top is flat.
2. The warmer can hold multiple tea-light sized candles, or a short votive type candle, allowing you to match your warming needs.
3. The top iron grate can be used independently as a trivet.
4. Enameled iron can easily be wiped clean.
5. Can also be used as a warmer for small metal or ceramic plates, for dishes such as tapas or fondue.

Box came with no instructions so I finally figured what the weird extra cast iron piece did. (see customer uploaded image) It turns out to be a candle holder which is very important. If you put the candle straight on the cast iron, the warmer base will act as a heat sink and the candle will burn only 1/3 of the wax (and 1/3 of the burn time). The candles burn normal now after I figured that out.

The base is stable and solid. Plain, but functional. Unit does not get hot when candle is lit so you can easily move it around without burning yourself.

I didn't shop much for this - when I saw it, I added it to my cart and purchased. It couldn't be better. I love the wide flat area - letting heat through the grid in multiple places. I didn't know what to do with the extra stand/insert - but read another review here and realized that you could remove the grid and set the teapot directly on top of the little insert. I have a wide flat Hario teapot that is also outstanding. Together, they create the perfect cup of oolong tea. Don't hesitate to purchase this item. It looks beautiful in the kitchen as well.
