It is great for making steaks, bacon, chicken, and fish.

When I got this, not only was the metal and handle sticky with some unknown substance, but the press was actually warped in the middle so it wouldn't lay flat.

I like the cast iron better than the more common aluminum.

I bought the top 6 reviewed grill presses on Amazon.com, and used them for several months in a rigorous comparison in my kitchen. This one ranks worst- don't buy it. The products I compared were:

#1 Best: Kingsford KCA11 Grill Press, Rectangular Kingsford KCA11- this grill press has the perfect weight for holding down, but not crushing, grilled sandwiches, sausages, burgers, and bacon. The handle is easy to hold and comfortable. I'm going to buy a few more.

#2: New 8-Inch Barbecue BBQ Grill Steak Weights, Heavy-Weight, Hamburger Bacon Sausage Grill Press, Commercial Grade, Cast Iron New 8-Inch Barbecue BBQ Grill Steak Weights- this grill press is almost identical to the Kindsford, but is slighly less well made (and two dollars cheaper). I found the edges to be less well finished and the handle to be somewhat poorly fitted to the iron.

#3: Lodge Logic LGP3 Pre-Seasoned Rectangular Cast-Iron Grill Press Lodge Logic LGP3- I found this press a little too light weight to properly grill a nice cheese sandwich. In addition, the handle scared me. It never got hot, but it always looked like it was, even after months of use, and I found the minor stress of remembering that it wouldn't burn me to be a negative feature. I prefer the wooden handles.

Nice heavy bacon/sausage press. It's cast iron - so don't get it wet - but it's exactly what it looks like. Very solidly made. The wood handle is screwed in at both ends and the wood isn't finished on the ends, so again, if you get it wet, that might be a problem, but if you keep it clean with a brush or scraper, this utensil is likely to last a long, long time. Can't go wrong.

When I got this, not only was the metal and handle sticky with some unknown substance, but the press was actually warped in the middle so it wouldn't lay flat. The texture on the bottom is very small squares packed closely together. Not what I was looking for. I returned it post-haste.
Do yourself a favor and spend another 5 bucks on a QUALITY press. I bought the Outset Q111. Significantly better.

Bacon presses are not complicated. These are rugged (mostly) well constructed implementations of a concept that has been around probably for a couple centuries. I like the cast iron better than the more common aluminum. One of the two ordered arrived slightly warped. On a flat surface, the center has an air pocket maybe an eighth of an inch high.Still works fine though, producing nicely browned flat slices. .

This is great for flattening bacon and steaks. I highly recommend this for a friend and would buy again. It has small bumps on the flat, heavy, device. Well made. Needs to be seasoned and dried well after washing as it is metal and can rust if not treated. It does have a sticker that states "Made in China".

As someone else said this was warped in the middle where it did not lay flat. I would not buy this again.

it's Only good on my long skillet, I was hoping to use on my tortillas, but I need to buy a round one, this doesn't fit in the pan (guess that's my fault for not checking the dimesions before buying,) I does work well for large meat on LARGE, long skillet.

This item is perfect for weighting grilled foods. I use it for bacon, grilled cheese sandwhiches, and burgers. It is just heavy enough.
