Book Description

November 9, 2000
Carlos Castaneda was a brilliant scholar but legitimacy bored him. At UCLE he got a Ph.D. in anthropology by turning the latest social science theories into controversies with a mushroom-smoking hermit and feeding them back to his professors as an ancient Indian wisdom.Careful, balanced, and scholarly definitive work.Weston La Barre, Journal of Psychological Anthropology Should satisfy anyone still in doubtNew York Times Book Review

5.0 out of 5 stars Imaginal Sorcerer, September 9, 2009
This review is from: Castaneda's Journey: The Power and the Allegory (Paperback)
there has long been a controversy...
dear sorcerers,
... about whether Carlos Castaneda actually studied sorcery in the desert with a Shaman named Don Juan or if his books were based on his imagination and hours of research in the UCLA library. Richard De Mille in this book and in The Don Juan Papers: Further Castaneda Controversies that he edited, does much to reveal the truth. In the end, you must decide for yourself what you feel is true. But if you are looking for the facts, as much as possible, to base that decision upon, this is the place to look.
