The Casting Away of Mrs Lecks and Mrs Aleshine, by Frank R. Stockton, is a classic. I'd been trying to find it for years, and was pleased to find it through Amazon.

The book was well worth the wait. Whimsical, charming, and funny, it is the story of two widows who are shipwrecked on their way to Japan. With another survivor, a young man, they make their way to an island, where they set up housekeeping with strict division of duties, and maintain a civil, if makeshift existence. Their adventures, although highly improbable, are also highly entertaining.
