4.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad deal. November 13, 2013
Platform for Display:Sony Playstation 3
The product itself is a great saving. Lords of Shadow (new on Amazon) is $25, but if you want the DLC, it would be about $9.99 for the first and $9.99 for the second, and Mirror of Fate HD is currently $14.99 on PSN. If you bought all of the above separately, it would cost at least $59.97 before tax. $39.99 for the whole package AND LOS2 Demo is actually a good deal. Downside would be the fact that the DLC content comes in the form of vouchers which has to be redeemed online, which can be considered a bother for buyers who expected everything on disc. Recommend it for those who wanted to try LOS.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great value January 19, 2014

I LOVE Castlevania! The collection contains the first game and codes to download Mirror of Fate, both DLC packs, and the demo (which is free now anyway).

I must stress that Mirror of Fate and the DLC packs DO NOT come on disc! You must go to PS Store and download them. At the back of the booklet is a code to download the extra content. You must install the DLC packs. Once you beat the game, they DLC will be available when you continue from ending credits.

I was a little late to this Castlevania reboot, and I place the blame on video game reviewers. So many of the "big dog" online reviewers gave this game mediocre to good reviews, but nothing too spectacular. Many crushed the additional content Mirrors of Fate HD. And the sequel, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 absolutely got demolished. I have less and less time to play video games these days, so I try to wait games out a little before buying them. What got me to try this out? A few reasons, 1) the price on the this collection 2) customer reviews on message boards supporting this game/collection 3) my love of action platformers 4) nostalgia (I grew up playing the original Nintendo Castlevania games).
Here's why I liked this game. Again the price is fantastic for a full 20h+ game with included 2 additional chapters as DLC that shed some light on the ending of this game. Lords of Shadow with the DLC is a challenging action game in the style of God of War. The combat, if not original, is well done and fun. Where it surpasses God of War is in the puzzles department, which are more challenging and gratifying when you solve them. And they are highly, highly varied. The graphics are top notch on the PS3, the landscapes are epic and breathtaking and the musical score is something out of a Lord of Rings movie... just awesome. Another facet to the game that I found enjoyable was that some of the boss battles were very similar to Shadow of the Colossus from PS2. So you get God of War meets Shadow of Colossus in this game.
What I didn't like in this game was relatively little. Lords of Shadow, to me, was a little slow developing at first.

For the longest time I kept myself from playing the Lords of Shadow reboot of the Castlevania series since I originally believed I would have to play most, if not all, of the older Castlevania games in order to appreciate this series. In time, I realized that wasn't the case, and after hearing a lot of good things about Lords of Shadow, I finally took the plunge. In the end, Lords of Shadow was indeed a good game and was certainly worth playing, however it was just the slightest bit overhyped, in my humble opinion. Lords of Shadow does plenty of stuff right and actually gets better and more exciting as you go along, but there were several little flaws here and there that kind of got to me and lowered my enjoyment of the game, but only by very small degrees. You take the role of Gabriel Belmont, a knight of the Brotherhood of Light, whose sole responsibility is to serve God and punish the wicked servants of darkness. Gabriel is on a mission to destroy the ones responsible for murdering his wife, Marie, and on his journey he will face off against all manner of evil creatures including werewolves, vampires, ghouls, trolls, zombies, etc. The story for Lords of Shadow is a bit on the straightforward side, but there are some interesting developments as the game goes on, especially in the game's ending. There's actually rather limited narrative in this game, at least as far as cutscenes go. Most of the story elements in the game are revealed through storytelling narrations before each mission told by supporting character and narrator Zobek (voiced by the very talented Sir Patrick Stewart). Otherwise, the story and the gameplay do pick up after the halfway point.

Each of the enemies Gabriel faces offer unique challenges and have to be dealt with through different means.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clearing Misconceptions and Game Review July 20, 2014
Platform for Display:Sony Playstation 3|Verified Purchase
As I was looking in the review section, I noticed that there was some misconception. The product description is correct. Reverie, Resurrection, Mirror of Fate HD, and the LoS2 Demo are included. DLC means "Downloadable Content" which means internet access and a PSN account. You gain access via the voucher code in the booklet and once it is redeemed, it cannot be used again. They are not on the disc itself. Which is understandable given how long the game itself is. It was at one point going to be a two-disc before being condensed.
---Game Review--
Great solid gameplay. It did remind me of some the best elements of several games: God of War, Shadow of the Colossus, Devil May Cry (the first) and Prince of Persia. It's challenging enough on normal mode that reminded me of Dark Souls. It takes those gameplay elements which we loved in those games and doesn't mess them up. Although if you are a classic Castlevania fan, you may need to become adjusted to it not being a scroll screen. (However, if you download Mirror of Fate, you get to enjoy that classic scroll screen).
The scenes are true to themselves, the werewolf lands are different than the vampire and necromancer lands. Each boss and sub-boss needs different tactics and they in turn fight differently. Large variety of enemies, some or unique according to where you are in the Shadow Lands. The visuals are excellent and runs smoothly. There were parts that through me off, in the first 3 chapters you do have two instances of "travel montages", but after that they are completely did away with. I can only assume that during development they decided to cut out those parts so that the game could fit on one disc instead of two.
The story is itself is solid.
