The product itself is a great saving. Lords of Shadow (new on Amazon) is $25, but if you want the DLC, it would be about $9.99 for the first and $9.99 for the second, and Mirror of Fate HD is currently $14.99 on PSN. If you bought all of the above separately, it would cost at least $59.97 before tax. $39.99 for the whole package AND LOS2 Demo is actually a good deal. Downside would be the fact that the DLC content comes in the form of vouchers which has to be redeemed online, which can be considered a bother for buyers who expected everything on disc. Recommend it for those who wanted to try LOS.

I LOVE Castlevania! The collection contains the first game and codes to download Mirror of Fate, both DLC packs, and the demo (which is free now anyway).

I must stress that Mirror of Fate and the DLC packs DO NOT come on disc! You must go to PS Store and download them. At the back of the booklet is a code to download the extra content. You must install the DLC packs. Once you beat the game, they DLC will be available when you continue from ending credits.

One of my all-time favorite game series, Castlevania Lords of Shadow has bitten its way deep down into my heart. It's amazing how easily and deeply I have grow to love this reboot of the Castlevania franchise, and it is a pity that most reviews seem to rather dislike these games as a whole. I don't know why, exactly. I found the art design and presentation to be fantastic and engaging. I would stand in the middle of this broken down tower with all of these details, lighting, effects, and delicate sounds with the most amazing music. . . .and I would just be so drawn in. Oscar Araujo did an amazing job with the Lords of Shadow soundtrack. And oh! The characters! I love them so much! Gabriel Belmont and Marie are timeless classics to me now. Their love is so pure (some may find it stupid or cheesy, I suppose) and I find it inspiring, sweet, and just....I love it so much! The other supporting characters like Laura or Zolbek or Pan are also interesting and beautifully rendered. The voice acting is top-notch, the emotion presented is gripping and memorable. The action is tight and strategic, a delight to nail down and perfect! There should not be too much over zealous button mashing here--it's more about timing, using the right weapons at the right time against the right foe, and learning their attack patterns, strengths and weaknesses. I personally adore the Chapter presentation of the game. Traversing my way through an action-packed storybook was a simple, delicate touch that really made the game stand out from all others. I cannot run out of praise for this game. It is filled with a love and fulfilling gameplay that few games can match. I recommend this game fervently. Just play it. C'mon you know you want to. I can't imagine how you could regret it. It's just....that good.

I was a little late to this Castlevania reboot, and I place the blame on video game reviewers. So many of the "big dog" online reviewers gave this game mediocre to good reviews, but nothing too spectacular. Many crushed the additional content Mirrors of Fate HD. And the sequel, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 absolutely got demolished. I have less and less time to play video games these days, so I try to wait games out a little before buying them. What got me to try this out? A few reasons, 1) the price on the this collection 2) customer reviews on message boards supporting this game/collection 3) my love of action platformers 4) nostalgia (I grew up playing the original Nintendo Castlevania games).
Here's why I liked this game. Again the price is fantastic for a full 20h+ game with included 2 additional chapters as DLC that shed some light on the ending of this game. Lords of Shadow with the DLC is a challenging action game in the style of God of War. The combat, if not original, is well done and fun. Where it surpasses God of War is in the puzzles department, which are more challenging and gratifying when you solve them. And they are highly, highly varied. The graphics are top notch on the PS3, the landscapes are epic and breathtaking and the musical score is something out of a Lord of Rings movie... just awesome. Another facet to the game that I found enjoyable was that some of the boss battles were very similar to Shadow of the Colossus from PS2. So you get God of War meets Shadow of Colossus in this game.
What I didn't like in this game was relatively little. Lords of Shadow, to me, was a little slow developing at first. It takes about a solid 1-2h of grinding out some fights before you start getting into some of the meat of the story and some of the more interesting combat upgrades and puzzles. And Gabriel Belmont, our protagonist isn't very likable in this game, which I wonder if it is by design. Ironically, the protagonist of the Lords of Shadow 2 shows more heart and character, which I felt was curious choice, but I won't get into that too much.
The DLC for Lords of Shadow expand upon the rather abrupt ending, and give some good new puzzles, and a very, very, very tough boss battle.
The other game included is Mirrors of Fate HD, which is a port from one of the hand held systems with updated graphics. This is a 10h game depending on how you try to complete it. This game was unfairly criticized. It is a port, and it was intended for a hand held system. It is an homage, of sorts, to Symphony of the Night, while including some of the battle mechanics from Lords of Shadow. It is a side scroller much like old school Castlevania. The plot sheds light on the events between Lords of Shadow 1 and 2. Positives: fun nostalgic game play and boss battles, with a nice blend of new school battle mechanics. Negatives: story was easy enough to follow, but a little peculiar in its delivery. I understand why they did what they did, for the sake of trying to unveil a great surprise, but unfortunately, I think most people will be like me and have it figured out well before the final chapter. Considering this game was tossed in at no additional cost, nothing really to begrudge Konami.
Overall, I didn't give this 5 stars because a few minor issues in the game, but I feel it would have been worthy of 4.5 because the bottom line is it is fun, gives us a new spin on Castlevania, has beautiful production quality, and has loads of content for a great price. The good in this game far exceeds the minor misses.

Castlevania Lords of Shadow is an amazing game, and the sequel Mirror of Fate is also very entertaining. Although I have seen Castlevania Lords of Shadow go down to a price of $7.50 on steam, and Mirror of Fate is also available for $15 dollars on PSN or Steam. Also Mirror of Fate is a download voucher, it is not on disk. Still it is a worthy purchase if you like Castlevania.
