Really good game that fails due to poor control,

This game was the 1st Castlevania game I ever played and I absolutely loved it. However, the criticism this game gets make good points about the reason why this game failed.
What captivated me: - Good story - Depending on what you do in the game the ending can be different - Get to play as two different characters how have their own storyline Bad: - My god what were they thinking with the controls - Views expecially while trying to jump platforms is difficult to execute The game had scary parts to it (garden with Chainsaw wielding freak) and the really cool option to do certain things in the game that would change the outcome of the ending. If you have patience to play with a bad control scheme then I would recommend this game. But keep in mind, you need PATIENCE to deal with the controls. *Side Note: Castlevania Legacy of Darkness is pretty much the same game. It does have different characters with their own story, but the level designs are virtually the same (maybe one added level not from this game) AND most importantly: The control scheme is still very poorly executed.

I cannot believe what this game has done. Totally underrated by those who would seek to destroy the Castlevania legacy.
To be fair, the updated version of this, Legacy of Darkness, has enhancements that make the experience that much more worthwhile. BUT nevertheless, this game is and always has been AWESOME! Check it out, should be easy enough to find a copy. GREAT GAME!

I played this game for a little but then I got rather frustrated with the controls. The part I am at he does not jump. Otherwise its a great game and has given me some chills. The plot is alright and as said before the controls are rather sketchy.

If you take a look in all Castlevania titles (not counting NES, Genesis nor SNES), they look like bringing the player in part of cases to a 3D approaching to a 2D game. I've been playing Lords of Shadow on PS3 and I confess I dont like it soooo much, but Its a good game. Looking back to PS2, those titles where boring to me (who climbs one hundred of levels in a tower just fighting against the same monsters for nothing, is it fun or lack of creativity?). Castlevania 64 has a good real 3D experience with a coniderable difficult. It was a great shot by Konami. Unfortunately, although there are good titles nowadays, this one I consider (toghether with Castlevania 1 for NES) the most difficult game of the series. Castlevania fans may prefer something near the old platform games, I dont know. If the interest is in challenge in a different point of view for a Castlevania game, this is the one.

If you are a fan of Castlevania, get this game. Most people complain about the controls, but for one, it is on N64....most games on that system are choppy, what did you expect? and 2, just like any other new game you get, the movement and controls take time to master. You get to choose between two characters with differnt abilities and story lines. Well worth it!

Castlevania 64 (or is it Castlevania 3D? Who cares, it's awesome!),

How may I start? This game is like a misused or neglected step son... You know? The stepson who is the ugliest, and has handicaps due to having cerebal pausy... One who is abused because he is crippled. The cripple is... it's on Nintendo 64 exclusively (like Castlevania Bloodlines being Genesis exclusively, and has life counts! arrrrgh! that will be another review!) and could have been ported to PSOne! The abuse? Oh don' get me started! People look at this like it is non-cannon. If it is, the story sure feels like it! If it isn't, yeahs anyways!
Put bluntly, despite the 3D faults (like controls and misguided camera angles), it feel too good to be bad... Know what I mean? If you don't, then you need to play the game... If you do, then play the game some more!
