ETH rocks the Trad scene--buy this album!!!!!,
By Neada (Albany, New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Casualties of Retail (Audio CD)
I've been listening to trad and trad influenced rock for years and ETH are one of the best bands I've found on the scene. Brian Buchanon (fiddle and guitar) and Trevor Lewington (lead guitar) pick up the vocals most often on "Casualties of Retail", and their voices are sweet and rich, especially on tracks like "Gasoline" and "Minstrel Boy". Lewington's vocals on "Down with the Ship" will break yor heart as easily as they make your soul fly free. For bagpipe stylings, Craig Downie can't be beat, and in the rhythm section, Mark Abraham (bass) and James Campbell (drums) provide a steady, infectious beat that will get in your head and rock you all day. Buy this album, man!!! It will be the nicest thing you've done for yourself all week! Slainte!

Amazing blend of rock and celtic, great bass and fiddle...,
This review is from: Casualties of Retail (Audio CD)
This is the perfect combination of traditional rock instruments; electric guitar, bass guitar, drums. Combine that with an amazing fiddler player, some bagpipes, harmonica, etc, and you have the ETH recipe. It is energetic and unique. I play this CD for everyone I can, because this group is so talented and so unique. If you listen to and enjoy, 7 Nations, you will love this. It is a step up. I would recommend this to those that like traditional celtic and those who love rock. Both will come away happy!

I saw Enter the Haggis on TV just recently, on the "Live" with Regis and Kelly show, and I couldn't believe how great they were!! I was completely blown away!! I am the kind of person who appreciates most kinds of music, but this group was so good, I had to rush right out to get their CD! "Casualties of Retail" is just one of their great albumns! A combination of Rock, Country and Celtic flavor, in my unprofessional opinion, makes them a curiosity, but when you actually hear them...WOW! I went online the next day and purchased not only one, but two of their CD's! Their instrumental pieces are out of this world, and their sound is just AWESOME! A must have for people of all ages! I am in my late 30's and can still appreciate the talent that these gentlemen have, you've got to listen to understand!!

The Irish Rock,

Fun, energetic, and brilliant! Enter the Haggis is the definition of Celtic Rock - the ensemble of traditional irish instruments (such as bagpipes and fiddles) with the guitars and drumming blend together to make the catchy tunes heard on "Casualties of Retail." I highly recommend this CD, especially if you like bands such as The Dropkick Murphey's and Flogging Molly.

Casualties of Retail by Enter the Haggis is truly a unique, inventive, and wonderfully put together cd. ETH surely has the art of blending many diferent styles of music in away that is appealing and sensible to the ear. A wonderful cd with beautiful melodies and intriguing beats. An ingenious cd from beginning to end and ETH pulls off the whole Celtic-Rock-Bluegrass-Latin-Funk thing like a charm.

Puts the Rock in Celtic Rock,

Like the esteemed reviewers before me, I really enjoy the process of these guys blending rock guitar and drums with pipes and electric fiddles. The instrumentals are nothing short of flat-out rockin. Although I really like "Moved Through the Fair" and "Down w/ the Ship", for me, their weakness lies in the style of the vocals which doesn't quite fit the intensity of the music. Still this is very good, energetic stuff.

This is a unique cd. The harmonious blending of bagpipe, fiddle, & electric guitar by expert musicians produces a most pleasing sound that makes you want to dance, & as a result, your friends to laugh. Definitely a must for any rock fan.

CATCHY CELTIC ROCK,
This review is from: Casualties of Retail (Audio CD)
Celtic Rock with touches of punk and folk influence. Has plenty of bagpipes and fiddles on top of driving guitar parts and catchy vocal melodies. This band has great chemistry and are extremely tight musicians. Very solid release. Similar to Flogging Molly and The Soggy Bottom Boys (from O' Brother Where Art Thou').

I asked a friend who plays in a local Celtic band to recommend something different for me and I am very impressed with this recording and I'm only on track #6 right now! Absolutely love their sound!

I listen to a lot of music and I started listening to live 365 and discovered Highlander radio. On a particular Saturday evening I was listening and I heard a song called "Down with the Ship" and I went back to the station to see who was performing it and it was a group called "Enter the Haggis". I never heard of them but I loved the sound of bagpipes and heavy drums together. Being that I wanted to hear that song over and over, I went to Amazon and plugged in the title and up popped Casualties of retail CD. I bought the CD. That is not the end of the story however, because the group was touring and I bought tickets to see them with my wife and two friends and on New Years Eve, we listened to Enter the Haggis live in Northampton, MA and I gave my copy of Casulties of Retail to my friend and ordered another copy plus I now own three more Haggis CDs. Great Group, great sound, very, very talented musicians. The song Casualties of Retail is awesome too. These gentlemen are canadian.
