Nice creamy consistency and very pleasant scent, May 30, 2008
Nicer sandalwood scent than many (not overpowering as some sandalwood soaps can be); lathers up nicely and the bar lasts a good long time. Overall, good value for the money.

Long lasting soap, October 17, 2011
This review is from: Caswell Massey Sandalwood Shave Soap Refill (Health and Beauty)
After almost two years, I find myself finally having to reorder this amazing shave soap. It doesn't take much to stir up a good lather and not only does it smell nice without an over-powering fragrance as others have mentioned, but it does a very nice job and provides an extremely close, smooth, satisfying shave. There are times when I'm rushed and have to use a shave gel, but I've noticed without fail that my shave is closer and cleaner using shave soap. If I had to guess, I would say that this is due to receiving a higher level of saturation when using soap and a brush, making facial hair a bit easier to cut.
Also, I'm using a
Tweezerman Men's Shaving Brush and it's lasted far longer than any other brush I've had, not only because it's a quality brush, but because it's stored properly (bristles down) on its holder after every use.

Are these people reviewing the same product I got from C-M?, June 28, 2011
This review is from: Caswell Massey Sandalwood Shave Soap Refill (Health and Beauty)
Same sandalwood soap, yes...
This is probably the worst shaving soap I have ever personally used. Check out some of the shaving boards for additional reviews of this product.
The only people who are likely to be happy with this shave soap is someone who has never used any other shave soap puck before, or who might have used the modern rendition of "burmashave".
The lather produced by C-M shave soap has a way of magically disappearing from one side of your face by the time you finish shaving the first side.
A good shave soap's lather will last for 5 or more minutes without turning into thin air. The soap should provide a thickness and slickness well beyond any "canned goo" you might ever have tried.
The scent, yes, it's a *very* good quality sandalwood scent, but honestly, the lather stability is *awful*.
I have perfectly soft water, the instability is not due to hard water.
Do your loved one a favor, and if you are considering getting this as a gift for him, find another product here. There are lots of *great* shave soaps here on Amazon... Pre de Provence, Provence Sante, L'Occitane, Taylor of Old Bond Street (TOBS), Edwin Jagger, Institute Karite, Cella, Speick, Arko (Incredibly cheap, but a GREAT lather producer.)
Try any of them, just stay away from the Caswell Massey soap. (C-M Creams, unlike their soaps, are not nearly as bad from what I've seen on the shaving boards.)
