This is an unusual, clever, and funny book, composed in delightful poetry, that kids 3-8 will enjoy. Cassidy a cat is a cab driver who is skillful in taking other animals from place to place and arriving on time. His only problem, a serious one, is that he is unable to stay awake while he is driving. One day, lovely Ginger cat enters Cassidy's cab and she tries to find a way to keep Cassidy awake while he is driving her. Kids will find the solution amusing.

Christina Tran moved from her home in Kansas to Chicago to serves as an editor and designer for a children's publishing company, and she spent time with adopted professional pet care. Her own cat Cassidy inspired this particular book (and indeed is listed as `co-author'!) as well as other works in poetry and stories. Being visually impaired she also has worked with people who are blind or visually impaired and focuses her creative output on issues of importance - diversity, empowerment and self-esteem. She is joined here by illustrator Karen Cortez who has been her book-creating partner on her past three books.

The story is delivered in lively rhyming poetry and relates the tale of Cassidy the cat cabbie whose weakness is loving to take catnaps. His animal passengers know that if Cassidy starts to snore they must poke him to keep him awake. He takes his animal passengers to all manner of places. One passenger, Ginger the Cat, thought she would be able to keep Cassidy awake with music, but she forgot the music. She must stop for cupcakes for her sister's birthday and while Cassidy tries to stay awake, as soon as the engine hums he is cat napping. Though Cassidy ultimately gets Ginger to the bakery, he feels sad that he disappoints his passenger friends with his naps. Ginger has a plan: she has Cassidy sing funny songs. The plan works and soon all of his passengers sing along with him and instead of napping while driving he instead naps with his mistress Christi.

Christine and Karen (and Cassidy) have created a fun, funny, entertaining book that is a delight to read and carries some subtle lessons with it. It is sure to be popular with youngsters. Grady Harp, February 14

For adults Cat Cabby may seem an implausible and silly book as the concept doesn't add up. For a young child though, where imagination is still possible, the book should appeal as the story is about a sleepy cat taxi driver who can not stay awake. As the book moves along, the story tells about how the sleepy cat taxi driver is able to stay awake.

The accompanying color images brighten up the book.

Some of the rhyming seems a bit contrived but overall this book chugs along and keeps you interested.

The story was loosely based on the author's dream who awoke to find her cat rescue, Cassidy, sleeping next to her while snoring in her ear.

Recommend with caveats given.

The author says that the story about her cat Cassidy is based on a dream she had. She obviously has a very fertile imagination to dream about Cassidy driving a taxi cab. Cassidy isn't even a good driver, since he's constantly falling asleep at the wheel, which causes no end of anxiety for his passengers. But it's a humorous story, told in rhyming text with a simple vocabulary, and fortunately Cassidy always woke up before he caused an accident. Finally, one of his passengers, Ginger Cat, came up with a solution for staying awake while Cassidy was driving, and everyone was much happier after that.

Cassidy is a cat...who drives cabs. He has a slight problem, though. He falls asleep at the wheel. Ginger cat is a little worried about his problem and devises a clever plan to keep Cassidy awake.

Cat Cabby is a silly story in rhyme. The illustrations are cute, and ones children would enjoy. While the story is simplistic, cat-loving kids ages 3-7 would probably find it entertaining.

My six yr old loved this cute and silly story. He is addicted to anything kitties and especially loved the bonus in the back with the picture and story about the real kitty. Well written and engaging for a nice bedtime story!

Cat Cabby tells of Cassidy the cat driving a taxi. It is a cute idea for a children's book but too many words are beyond the grasp of young children. The illustrations are age appropriate and wonderful for young children but the story is a bit beyond their ability and would need lots of explaining for them to understand. Children in middle grades would enjoy the story and rhyme of this story.

This one started out a bit slow for me. As the story unfolds, I think the choice of lyrics is challenging to grasp for the wee little ones but the cute pics hold their attention. Most kids like animals and the rhyming draws in the older ones, while the action picks up. For me, the story line just didn't flow as well until we got towards the end and then I loved it. The book finishes strong!

Cassidy cat is a cab driver who falls asleep as he is driving. He picks up Ginger cat to take her to a birthday party. Ginger has a plan to help Cassidy stay awake. She is going to play music but forgets the music. She has to get to the bakery to get the cupcakes. Cassidy starts the car and falls asleep but still gets her there safely. Cassidy is very sorry. Read this book to see how Cassidy’s friends help him with his problem and then read to learn the true story behind Cassidy Cat.

My child liked this book quite bit. She was very interested in seeing what happened next to the Cat Cabby. The only part that was hard for her to follow along with was when it went from the dream to real-life, snoring in Christina' s bed. I read her the bit at the end of the book to explain why the story went from the cab-driving cat to a normal cat.
