Book Description

On the wildly popular show Iron Chef America, Cat Cora uses her instincts to transform random ingredients into exciting creations on a moment’s notice. In this book, she turns her eye to some of our most popular dishes to make them faster, fresher, and lighter. These are the swift meals that Cat relies on when she comes home from work to cook for her own family: Greek-Style Nachos, Grilled Chili-Lime Flank Steak Soft Tacos, Crispy Baked Fish Stix with Mustard Dipping Sauce, Quick Chicken Curry with Peas, and Sour-Cherry-Filled Chocolate Cupcakes.

In dishes like Baked “Fried” Calamari with Marinara Dipping Sauce and Tex-Mex Tuna Casserole, Cat puts a new spin on old favorites. She updates others, tossing chipotle-spiced croutons into a Caesar salad, or replacing the usual beef in stroganoff with chicken and adding fresh tarragon. Each recipe illustrates Cat’s motto: just because a dish is a classic doesn’t mean it can’t be improved upon.

From Publishers Weekly

Cora, known best as the sweet and savvy female Iron Chef (Food Network), has jumped on the "fresh and fast" bandwagon with an impressive collection of popular favorites, tweaked and stylized for the modern, health-conscious cook. Easily identifiable recipes like Chili and Minestrone are infused with Cora's signature zesty flair (think grated ginger, pesto and sweet paprika), and she certainly proves she's got a lot to offer. Avoiding the pitfalls of the quick and easy genre, Cora serves up original combinations like Curried Orange Lentil Soup, Grilled Avocado Cobb Salad, and Lemongrass Coq Au Vin. Disappointingly, she ambles from one region to another with little coherence, following Italian Bucatini Amatriciana with Chicken Curry, which leaves the reader wondering where they're headed. A bit more direction would help readers navigate the Twists of her Classics. However, readers will easily identify with Cora's laid back, family-style approach to cooking, and find effective and valuable tips throughout. Over 70 full-color photos add style and remind the reader that casual trumps extravagant in Cora's kitchen. Her book will appeal to the home cook who wants to break from the monotony of the weeknight meal. Photos.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Halibut Recipe!! August 15, 2010
By btrail
Format:Hardcover
The Halibut recipe in this book is absolutely wonderful! It is very easy to follow and uses ingredients that are already stocked in my kitchen. Great for a quick meal during the week; the family thought I really spent a lot of time on it. The most important thing about this recipe and other recipes in the book is that it is very health conscience. Recipes are low fat, quick and best of all -GREAT TASTING! Cat Cora is now my favorite chef!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cat Cora Helps Family Cooks Take Taste up a Notch March 10, 2011
By Tracy
Format:Hardcover
Cat Cora is well known from her status as an Iron Chef, a show that compels chefs to take unusual ingredients and combine them to create show-stopping dishes. Although it is entertaining to watch, it is far from the type of cooking that most people do in their homes. In this cookbook we see another side of Cat, a person who cooks for a family day in and day out.

As in most families, Cat goes to classic favorites over and over, but updates them with new flavors to keep the meals both interesting and family friendly. The end result is recipes that please both adults and children. This is a cookbook that cooks will reach for over and over, virtually cooking their way through from beginning to end. Highlights (so far): Chicken Soup with Coconut, Fresh Basil and Chiles, which is great paired with Cilantro Slaw with Sauteed Garlic; and Sweet Potato Clam Chowder with Bacon, served with Corn Bread. Best of all, Cat shows cooks that they can take steps to update their own families' favorites and make them new and fresh.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Weekday Night Options December 13, 2010

We use this cookbook every week. Most of the ingredients are easy to find and inexpensive. Many of the recipes have 30-45 minute prep times.

Cat Cora is best known to the general public as one of the 'Iron Chefs' on what is perhaps television's most popular cooking shows. Now in Cat Cora's Classics With a Twist, this master chef offers different takes on favorite 'comfort food' dishes, and tells how to present casual fare that looks as if one has spent hours on it. Fast, healthy meals with inspiration were dishes Cat put together after work for her own large family, so they not only look pretty, but appeal to practical cooks.

5.0 out of 5 stars A feast for the palate August 23, 2010
Format:Hardcover
Cat Cora brings a fresh new look to soon-to-be favorites made from readily available ingredients, many right in your pantry. I was very impressed with Cat's variety of health conscious meals that are just made for the busy cook. Her Greek Nachos were a big hit with friends and family.

I prepared a romantic dinner for two centered around Cat's recipe for Fettuccine with Scallops, Red Pepper and Lime and it was a delight to the palate.

Cat Cora's Classics with a Twist is a book I intend to purchase for several friends and family members. I highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys cooking or wants to learn from a master.

5.0 out of 5 stars I use this cookbook all the time September 2, 2010
Format:Hardcover
I have always been intimidated by Cat Cora's cooking, after all she IS an Iron Chef. But after trying out a few of the recipes in this book, I realize that she knows how to write a recipe for a home cook life myself. Every recipe in the book is mouthwatering. Her tomato soup with mini grilled cheese croutons has become a weekly staple in my house. The recipes are loaded with flavors and have influences from many cuisines....Greek, Asian, Italian, Mexican... Her instructions are easy to follow and every recipe I have tried has come out delicious. This is a fantastic cookbook!

The cookbook itself looks wonderful. Buyer beware, however, when purchasing this book "Sold by Amazon." The book was advertised as "new." I received this book with a very worn dust cover, crunched cover corners, crinkled and worn pages. This book has either been used or has been a display item in a store for very, very long time.

Yummy cookbook. Not the healthiest of foods. I think she normally uses a bit too much oil, but you can certainly adjust to your health standards.

Book arrived in great condition. It looks like a good cook book, but I am grilling and fresh veggie mode so I haven't taken the time to read it or try any of the recipes.
